Thought it was a retrospective comp? If that's what you mean by "proper album"...

death in Skegness (seandalai), Friday, 5 December 2014 09:46 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, it's basically a Best Of put together by Emotional Rescue

groovypanda, Friday, 5 December 2014 10:58 (nine years ago) link

four weeks pass...

I've been listening to this tune a lot lately, wondering if it could be classified as "balearic" (a term I still don't fully understand)

i fucking miss air france

I second the praise for Gaussian Curve. Very good album. Feels a bit short, don't know the actual run time, but I wonder if they have extra material that didn't make this album.

brotherlovesdub, Friday, 9 January 2015 19:09 (nine years ago) link

"impossible island" is gorgeous wow. is that record only out on lp?

dyl, Friday, 9 January 2015 19:49 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, the GC album is available only on lp at this time. But it's encouraging to see that the Gigi Masin and Joan Bibiloni comps are reappearing as expanded CD editions.

doug watson, Friday, 9 January 2015 19:59 (nine years ago) link

Picked up the reissue of Balmorhea's debut release. Recommended

the latest dream chimney mix is really good too - starts off with a lot of jazz, then more balearic as it goes on:

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 19:56 (nine years ago) link

btw if anyone knows the very long jazz track at 56 mins in that julian horn mix - that'd be cool

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 4 February 2015 15:49 (nine years ago) link

lonnie liston smith? sounds like his brother on vocals anyway.

brimstead, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 21:51 (nine years ago) link

that's what i thought - it turns out it's this, which i don't think is his brother based on discogs. amazing record!

ha awesome. figures it would be some random war bside from 1983. god i do love the whole psychmagick-style psychodelic homemade funky synthetic direction.

if not i'll just keep blogging here.

i know i've heard it before, but i can't put my finger on it. really enjoying all the mixes you're posting ITT LG, just takes me a while to get to them.

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 19 February 2015 19:41 (nine years ago) link

not sure if there's anyone who only reads this thread but not bobbins, but the vakula album definitely gets into some heavy balearic and new age vibes, and it's pretty much excellent all the way through.

ah yes, i'm just joking about blogging - just good to place things here now and again, my job at the moment allows a lot of listening to music - there is a process where some things don't make the grade for the effort of a copy and paste here, quality control still exists.

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Thursday, 19 February 2015 20:06 (nine years ago) link

Was laughing my head off when the Vakula album goes full-on Santana / Bongo Brothers / Ozric Tentacles(!) Great sound. There's actually only one House per-se track on it (which works great as an early build up) and I wonder if people will miss it if they're expecting more of that sort of thing. It's a proper ludicrous space-rock / cosmic disco epic as they used to be made. Almost reminds me of AR & Machines' Echo or something, with that artwork as well. Very Orbular on a couple of tracks as well. Probably makes more sense on CD but I want the triple gatefold just because that's the proper way to do these things isn't it.

Noel Emits, Thursday, 19 February 2015 20:40 (nine years ago) link

anyone know the tune at about 20 mins in this?

damn i wish i knew now too

what a hauntingly gorgeous song

gr8080, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 13:53 (nine years ago) link

it is amazing

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 13:55 (nine years ago) link

i even tried transcribing the lyrics and googling them, to no avail

seagulls winging their way and soaring
spending their life just drifting
drifting their way to nowhere
ripples laughing and gay and gentle
dancing away their lifetime
winding their way to nowhere
drifting like a bird i'm drifting
like a ripple on a stream
like a clown dressed in a dream
going nowhere
raindrops falling from skies so stormy
kissing the earth before me
die in their paths to nowhere
breezes blowing the leaves of autumn
leaves in a world forgotten
singing their songs to no one
no time no where
love me take me in your arms and keep me there
i haven't loved in so long
and everything seems so wrong
and nothings going no where, no time, no way
nowhere nowhere nowhere
love me
take me in your arms and keep me there
i haven't loved in so long
and everything seems so wrong
and nothings going nowhere
nowhere nowhere nowhere

gr8080, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 14:10 (nine years ago) link

i'm sure that's not 100% correct
