some of this album reminds me why i love ariel pink. pretty much all the 2nd half though makes me fucking hate him. so tiresome.

definitely overloaded. He could have saved a bunch for b-sides but I guess he just had to vomit.

calstars, Monday, 15 December 2014 23:26 (nine years ago) link

its not even that its overloaded, its just too many stupid songs.

StillAdvance, Monday, 15 December 2014 23:30 (nine years ago) link

yeah, tons of filler unfortunately =\

"Black Ballerina" alone undoes a lot of the goodwill he'd built up over the first half.

That may be the first instance of him ever building up goodwill, so there is that.

"black ballerina" is one of the best songs on it

fuckin "sexual athletics" is #1 though. downright guttingly brilliant

does anyone else hear One Summer Night as a wink/nudge to Mac DeMarco? the very specific flanged guitar sound and vocal delivery are really similar

ive come to like this album quite a bit, in spite of all the stupidity.

Goth Bomb
Black Ballerina
Menopause Man
Life in L.A.

Round and Round

apparently they covered "Man in the Box" by Alice in Chains and "Creep" by Stone Temple Pilots a couple shows before, i'm guessing in an attempt to make the front page of p4k the next day (fail).... i thought it was hilarious how AP's nemesis Father John Misty covered that Leonard Cohen song and got featured instead :D

not saying it's noble, just pointing out that was imo probably his (or his mgmt's) thinking

incredibly depressing to think that any artist might be doing those covers for that reason. unsurprising, really, but depressing nonetheless.

rappers' entire careers were based on manufactured beefs and we accepted, even celebrated, that.

Poliopolice, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 21:53 (nine years ago) link

I was going to ask for details on the Ariel Pink / Father John Misty beef but remembered that I don't actually care

example (crüt), Tuesday, 24 February 2015 21:55 (nine years ago) link

the beef is hair related iirc
