has Ott ever been more hilariously dumb than when he tried to make hay out of PF 'cashing in' on The Jacka's death by running an unpublished interview with him by the writer who'd done the most to champion his music (and wrote an 8.0 review of one of his albums for PF just weeks earlier).

i mean, pitchfork literally posted it so people would click on a newsworthy thing and then they could subsequently provide traffic numbers that they could give advertisers in exchange for money...

But that's just called "doing your job"

Nothing new there. Publications, print and online, have published "previously unpublished" interviews with recently deceased artists since time immemorial. There's just a more direct way of tracking the effect of that now.

eh i think there's such a thing as being TOO cynical when it comes to things like this. we all, as writers, have niche artists we love and have championed. they're all gonna die someday, some of them maybe unexpectedly and way too soon. when that happens, and you have something substantial to say about them, or an unpublished interview or whatever, you're not gonna send it to an editor and put it front of an audience, and try to do something for their now-suddenly -posthumous legacy? maybe because some asshole on twitter thinks you're just 'doing it for the clicks'? fuck that. there've been underrated regional/local rappers who i've had to write obituaries for in the last few years and i sure as fuck wasn't doing it for the little check that i could've gotten writing about anything else, it fucking sucked, i'd rather those guys were still alive and i'm sure deej feels the same about one of his favorite rappers.

i mean, i'm not yelling at you guys for your reasonable responses, i'm just venting because Ott is a moron who'll put anything Pitchfork in the crosshairs for any ridiculous reason.

something I did not say in response to that post: a later instance of feeling like I don't count is that one thing that ran on collapseboard or wherever on ott's latest crusade against pitchfork, and in the comments he would respond to the men there (including pitchfork writers!) with comments to the effect of "you know you're my man, but..." and then ignore the women entirely
