Has anyone else watched WHITNEY, the 2018 doc? I watched it last night and it dragged me through the wringer all over again. Usually I don't like talking head interviews in documentaries but these were very direct and it was illuminating to hear from her closest friends and family (except Robyn)

I want to look up this performance because it sounds extremely emotional and that is how I feel after watching this movie. RIP Nippy & Chrissy.

holy crap was the bet awards tribute discussed elsewhere on ilm? i don't feel like i can finish watching it, but cissy houston sings, or wails, really, a version of "bridge over troubled water" where she changes the lyrics to past tense, viz. "your time had come to shine / all your dreams have gone away." i couldn't finish watching her performance tbh. before that, monica did an amazing version of "i love the lord."

No surprise. It was produced and written by a guy who's done some of the hackiest biopics ever, and Clive was also a producer. Kasi Lemmons is a great director though - if this helps her finance her own projects, so be it.

Wow, Kasi Lemmons in the director!? I don't think I've seen anything of hers since "The Caveman's Valentine."

Saw the trailer for this while taking my kid to see Matilda on Friday (which is superb). This movie looks like dreck - cheap, tacky, melodramatic and appallingly overacted.

snake is skipping the tail and starting on the midsection these days, no point to finding historical truth when there's money to be made on the backs of people who can't complain
