I think technically this is called "Chase", not "The Chase". I should have corrected that.

it was originally released as "Chase" but has been re-released as "The Chase" a few times as well

not that it matters

Yes! More Than Ever, one of a handful of discoveries in the noms that made my final cut.

Didn't vote for it as not sufficiently 'Italo' but it is a truly wonderful track.

emil.y, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 01:06 (nine years ago) link

Yeah I love it as much as anything else that will place but not italo... but still, More Than Ever!

as is don quichotte xp

gr8080, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 01:32 (nine years ago) link

xxpost - Agree, "Ma Quale Idea" is the perfect example of Italian disco that's not Italo… but that's of course debatable.

daavid, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 01:34 (nine years ago) link

Interestingly enough, Pino D'Angio also produced the trance classic Age Of Love.

Siegbran, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 01:41 (nine years ago) link

Did not know that. Nice one Pino!

I don't know Italo from Dixieland jazz but I'm digging the thread for gr80's images.

Wow, did not expect More Than Ever to place! Such a cool track, maybe it's not as obscure as I thought. Ma Quale Idea might have the best Italian rapping vocals ever. Although since it's sung in Italian and not English, that sort disqualifies it from being Italo, right? :) The extended mix of "I Love My Radio" is another all-time favorite of mine, have played that vinyl to death. Also really like the Slow Version of Void Vision.

Not a fan of Magazine 60 and Sabrina, but Ryan Paris deserves to be here. I like his follow up single "Fall In Love" too.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 05:06 (nine years ago) link

Turns out the "I Like Chopin" version is not very common. I just assume it was the standard 12 inch version or whatever. Anyway, here it is. Audio quality is kind of bad but the intro (up to around 1:20) is amazing:

daavid, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 05:12 (nine years ago) link

the version I mentioned in an earlier post

daavid, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 05:13 (nine years ago) link

kinda disappointed that gr8080's graphic for Sabrina didn't contain a nip slip. (just kidding, they're all great!)

naus, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 07:13 (nine years ago) link

That's the version of "I Like Chopin" that I put on the Spotify playlist. Agree that it's the best version, gorgeous intro.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 09:44 (nine years ago) link

"Don Quichotte" is one of the few later discoveries that I voted for. Wasn't fussed about it on the first listen, adore it now.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 09:50 (nine years ago) link

How on Earth could that Glam track score higher than Clio? Madness. Italo Madness.

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 12:37 (nine years ago) link

Love the graphics in this poll, btw.

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 12:38 (nine years ago) link

More Than Ever my first nom to chart :) Will look into doing a mix of my list when the poll is over.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 13:48 (nine years ago) link

I like Eye's (and Faces) a hell of a lot, but Glam is the one for me from that team, I am a fan of the trackier end of italo though.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 13:58 (nine years ago) link

xpost- the lyrics are really odd and totally not what you would expect from the general vibe of the song

daavid, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 15:50 (nine years ago) link

… come to think of it, gr80's image suits kind of perfectly.

daavid, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 15:52 (nine years ago) link

Always been more of a "No Tengo Dinero" man myself. "Dinero Scratch" is also cute.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 16:06 (nine years ago) link

22 MATIA BAZAR "Ti Sento" [167 points, 5 votes, 1 first place vote]
http://youtu.be/NKDHRpmG4rk

daavid, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 17:13 (nine years ago) link

i've never heard 'more than ever' before! this is really good

didn't vote for righeira (tho i do love it), but had ginny as my #3 and matia as my #4 - it's maybe not strictly italo but i still think 'can't be serious' is the apotheosis of the italo/balearic intersect and 'ti sento' is such OTT high drama, that last long high note she hits right before the end <3

donna rouge, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 17:29 (nine years ago) link

agreed that "magic fly" isn't italo, but what genre is it? disco alone doesn't seem adequate

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 17:30 (nine years ago) link

Can't think of much to say about Ti Sento. if anything it seems a bit buttoned-up compared to the rest of the countdown despite her valiant delivery in the chorus.

skip, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 17:33 (nine years ago) link

I can trace a line from "Magic Fly" to Pulstar's "Hypnosis", so it does legitimately feel like the genesis of a certain strain of Italo.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 17:37 (nine years ago) link

Magic Fly = space disco, obv

ewar woowar (or something), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 17:41 (nine years ago) link

I love "Ti Sento" but I feel like it's more Italian pop than Italo. Perhaps my perception is influenced by the fact that it's sung in Italian, but it's maybe also that Matia Bazar are the quintessential Italian pop group.
