I do wish they'd stop trying to pull off my face, though.

I can't remember whether Ivy was having a case of the almost-toddler irrationally angries or almost-toddler irrationally exciteds, but I was hanging out with her on the couch the other day while she exuberantly (or furiously - it's hard to tell the difference sometimes) swatted at my face and when Jeff came into the room he was like, "Uh, your face is bleeding" because Ivy had managed to take chunks of skin out of my lip and my chin. I hadn't even noticed under the flurry of baby blows. So I guess my point is that IME they will soon stop trying to pull your face off and start succeeding.

marin has tried to pull my bottom lip off a billion times. also she keeps stealing my glasses like i was woody allen in take the money and run.

a cake of three ingredients (stevie), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 16:59 (nine years ago) link

omg the glasses thing

It's constant. If she's angry, she'll grab them off my face and throw them. If she's excited, she'll grab them off my face and grin at me impishly. If I think we're going to be doing a lot of face to face interaction, I just take them off now. Maybe that's why I don't see all the facial injuries coming.

J has already pulled a chunk out of my lip once with his cute little talons. I try to do a better job of trimming fingernails now so that I don't lose an eye.

Abby used to like to go up my nose with her little poorly manicured toddler fingers. That always hurt.

how's life, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 17:10 (nine years ago) link

The glasses-chucking seemed to stop at around 18 months, which was lucky, as I was able buy a new non-mangled pair which has so far survived 6 months without being bent/smashed/scratched/de-lensed

Well, abdominal incision but same general area.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 23 February 2015 19:28 (nine years ago) link

Would an ILX worldwide FAP and playdate be delightful? I would love to see our children cavorting together (on the floor of a pub while we get shitfaced).

This is an excellent point, I should have said "wombs"

Well, they had to find a way to get there first.

he also loves the cats, especially the big cat, who has little interest in him but tolerates his gurgling and uncoordinated petting

Cecil just turned three months, and in the last week has transformed from being colickly as hell to generally pleasant most of the time. People said it's often very sudden at the three month mark but I didn't expect this level of change this fast.

He can also roll from his stomach to is back, which we thought was awesome but other people with kids looked shocked and sad as they know this is the beginning of the end in terms of being able to leave him knowing he won't move.

Would an ILX worldwide FAP and playdate be delightful? I would love to see our children cavorting together (on the floor of a pub while we get shitfaced).

There's a decent chance we'll be in Chicago at some point in July depending on travel plans.

So many cute babies, you guys. I want another baby. My baby got real big.

iyo iyo un day (how's life), Tuesday, 24 February 2015 01:00 (nine years ago) link

stevie, your cat is so tolerant. I love it.

Ivy is REALLY into touching noses now and she was touching Francie the Cat's nose and shockingly, Francie was putting up with it. That cat is getting mellow in her old age, I think.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Friday, 6 March 2015 16:34 (nine years ago) link

I don't know what it is, but I love pictures of Ivy (babies, really but Ivy especially) standing up taken from the back. I always thing of the Simpsons quote, "Look at you, standing there on your hind legs like a couple of Rory Calhouns," which I say to ivy a lot. Anyway:

hahaha carl you'll notice charlie is absent in the final frame! he is very tolerant but he does have his limits!

so we took marin to an installation at the south bank today with beanbags made out of wool and headphones that played quiet ambient music
