not sure if there's anyone who only reads this thread but not bobbins, but the vakula album definitely gets into some heavy balearic and new age vibes, and it's pretty much excellent all the way through.

i know i've heard it before, but i can't put my finger on it. really enjoying all the mixes you're posting ITT LG, just takes me a while to get to them.

ah yes, i'm just joking about blogging - just good to place things here now and again, my job at the moment allows a lot of listening to music - there is a process where some things don't make the grade for the effort of a copy and paste here, quality control still exists.

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Thursday, 19 February 2015 20:06 (nine years ago) link

Was laughing my head off when the Vakula album goes full-on Santana / Bongo Brothers / Ozric Tentacles(!) Great sound. There's actually only one House per-se track on it (which works great as an early build up) and I wonder if people will miss it if they're expecting more of that sort of thing. It's a proper ludicrous space-rock / cosmic disco epic as they used to be made. Almost reminds me of AR & Machines' Echo or something, with that artwork as well. Very Orbular on a couple of tracks as well. Probably makes more sense on CD but I want the triple gatefold just because that's the proper way to do these things isn't it.

anyone know the tune at about 20 mins in this?

it is amazing

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 13:55 (nine years ago) link

i even tried transcribing the lyrics and googling them, to no avail

seagulls winging their way and soaring
spending their life just drifting
drifting their way to nowhere
ripples laughing and gay and gentle
dancing away their lifetime
winding their way to nowhere
drifting like a bird i'm drifting
like a ripple on a stream
like a clown dressed in a dream
going nowhere
raindrops falling from skies so stormy
kissing the earth before me
die in their paths to nowhere
breezes blowing the leaves of autumn
leaves in a world forgotten
singing their songs to no one
no time no where
love me take me in your arms and keep me there
i haven't loved in so long
and everything seems so wrong
and nothings going no where, no time, no way
nowhere nowhere nowhere
love me
take me in your arms and keep me there
i haven't loved in so long
and everything seems so wrong
and nothings going nowhere
nowhere nowhere nowhere

Hi guys, I asked him via email and got a very friendly reply - the track is "Nowhere" by Cy Timmons.
His latest mix can be found here: http://racketracket.co.uk/music/october-moonglow/

some classics and other stuff - nice mix.

Have a number of these cuts in my iTunes library so am enjoying this. I find myself predisposed to the less house-y, more pillowy synthy stuff – so this hits the spot.

3 Elkin & Nelson – Jibaro (CBS, 1986)

feel like this one could be slotted away in a similar electronic/euphoric subcategory of balearica

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8LeK27_c-M

tho e2-e4 is obviously a lot less cheesy than most of this stuff, sorta hard to compare anything to it in a direct way. on the proggier/noodlier side of things definitely ashra, maybe transfer station blue? wahnfried's townelle? innovative communication in general - clara mondshine, double fantasy, etc. not sure if those were actual classics at the time but they feel right.

thanks, I'll check those out. More asking about classic records in general than something exactly akin to E2-E4.

groovypanda, Friday, 3 April 2015 12:43 (nine years ago) link

that spotify playlist was a bit overkill for me - when it's 360 tracks and some are just well-known hits it becomes a bit useless and unfocused.
