PORC EPIC SAVVAGE (imago), Monday, 13 April 2015 22:12 (nine years ago) link

just saw Mitski w/ Screaming Females a few days ago, she was really great.

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Monday, 13 April 2015 22:13 (nine years ago) link

from now on all bands should try harder

j., Monday, 13 April 2015 22:14 (nine years ago) link

agreed

PORC EPIC SAVVAGE (imago), Monday, 13 April 2015 22:16 (nine years ago) link

literally the point where postpunk emocore brad nelson music atomsmashes into imago melodyprog

love bands that can bring everyone together

mitski is touring with speedy!! so is krill <3

maura, Monday, 13 April 2015 22:46 (nine years ago) link

love the falling-down-the-stairs drumfills in 'raising the skate'

ciderpress, Monday, 13 April 2015 22:54 (nine years ago) link

mitski sucks

god i hate mainlander, emo bullshit with boring crunchy guitars. why didn't that trend get left in the early aughts?

i'll try speedy ortiz though

hackshaw, Monday, 13 April 2015 22:57 (nine years ago) link

this from the genius who called pc music 'insensitive'

PORC EPIC SAVVAGE (imago), Monday, 13 April 2015 23:01 (nine years ago) link

i mean, it is insensitive. you're talking about a bunch of upper class art school haircuts selling you their idea of the "future" in the form of j-pop theft

i'm glad you think your progressive

hackshaw, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:05 (nine years ago) link

how come this sounds so amazing and other indie rock records suck so much

― j., Monday, April 13, 2015 5:11 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

YES THIS

"Foil Deer" raises the stakes (no pun intended, I swear) in the best possible ways

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 13 April 2015 23:48 (nine years ago) link

Mainlander?

flappy bird, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:58 (nine years ago) link

Is the album as good as The Graduates?

Van Horn Street, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:58 (nine years ago) link

"mainlander" = college rock bands situated in a local area

(my word for it)

i went on Urban Dictionary and apparently that term has offensive connotations. didn't mean that. doh

hackshaw, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 00:00 (nine years ago) link

Is the album as good as The Graduates?

yes

Thanks for the Mitski tip. I'm a sucker for this kind of style and the songs/lyrics/persona are more distinct/memorable than most. This is what I'm hoping the new Waxahatchee album will be like (when I get around to hearing it).

o. nate, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 01:25 (nine years ago) link

a little bit of Tilt in her voice.

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 01:38 (nine years ago) link

A little bit of Liz Phair too

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 03:25 (nine years ago) link

Mitski is the pure shit

How Butch, I mean (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 13:00 (nine years ago) link

it was thanks to you that we discovered her! shuffle find on the traxpoll spotify, instant liking

(this is where my gf informs me that she knew about her already or w/e but you still did well nominating her)

now back to speedy ortiz, this is one of the strongest opening salvos to an album in recent memory, 'raising the skate' is a fucking classic indie rock song already

PORC EPIC SAVVAGE (imago), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 17:41 (nine years ago) link

mitski sucks

god i hate mainlander, emo bullshit with boring crunchy guitars

only now listening to the mitski album and as a fan of emo bullshit with boring crunchy guitars this is a very uncharitable and inaccurate description of the record itself

it's pretty good

'my dead girl' is the lower-order classic on this album, based on 2 listens, but it really is all great

PORC EPIC SAVVAGE (imago), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 18:07 (nine years ago) link

yeah "my dead girl" is amazing

Mitski is the core, the heart music

flappy bird, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 18:55 (nine years ago) link

get a similar rush from this as from catherine wheel's poppier stuff

PORC EPIC SAVVAGE (imago), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 19:05 (nine years ago) link

what kinda fuckin space-age bass drum micing technology did they cook up to record this thing

j., Wednesday, 15 April 2015 04:31 (nine years ago) link

pro mitski

hey, that's my favorite One Direction song

rap is dad (it's a boy!), Wednesday, 15 April 2015 20:51 (nine years ago) link

this is quite possibly album of the year

imago, Saturday, 18 April 2015 19:17 (nine years ago) link

you always say that

j., Saturday, 18 April 2015 19:39 (nine years ago) link

every year

j., Saturday, 18 April 2015 19:39 (nine years ago) link

get some fresh material

j., Saturday, 18 April 2015 19:41 (nine years ago) link

say it every year about speedy ortiz?

imago, Saturday, 18 April 2015 20:47 (nine years ago) link

fine, "this album could end up being my favourite album of 2015, got some cracking indie songs on it m8"

imago, Saturday, 18 April 2015 20:48 (nine years ago) link

it looks just like your pictures but in 3d

j., Tuesday, 21 April 2015 20:38 (nine years ago) link

good album!

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 21 April 2015 20:39 (nine years ago) link

I was already sold, Major Arcana was one of my favorite records of the past few years, but this is even better, I'm over the moon.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 20:45 (nine years ago) link

This is a superior quality piece of 90s Matador nostalgia but I'm not sure I'd care if it wasn't for the singer, she tips it away from just being a slavish recreation of a sound. Still, this is the best time of year to listen to this sort of thing, and I'm enjoying it.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 20:58 (nine years ago) link

Mister Difficult is staggering

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 21:10 (nine years ago) link

This album is stellar, and indeed My Dead Girl is an amazing song. Puffer has some serious Luscious Jackson vibes.

Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Wednesday, 22 April 2015 21:09 (nine years ago) link

how does she do that ~~~tHiNg~~~ with her voice

j., Thursday, 23 April 2015 16:06 (nine years ago) link

I missed the stream apparently now I'm desperately trying to listen to that first song to get the Chavez vibes described upthread...

Evan, Thursday, 23 April 2015 16:15 (nine years ago) link

In Pitchfork interview, as in NY Times one, she talks about listening to rap, r'n'b, and Pavement.

curmudgeon, Thursday, 23 April 2015 19:26 (nine years ago) link

completely leveled by Mister Difficult.

flappy bird, Thursday, 23 April 2015 19:36 (nine years ago) link

Whiney says this band isn't cool anymore pack it in

kurt kobaïan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 24 April 2015 00:27 (nine years ago) link

i was rinsing 'taylor swift' b/w 'swim fan' before the new release. the words to 'raising the skate' are amazing.

meaulnes, Wednesday, 29 April 2015 16:02 (nine years ago) link

it's about an entrepreneur who starts a successful fish farm right

j., Wednesday, 29 April 2015 16:06 (nine years ago) link
