that ppl can make a living tweeting jokes -- their own or others' -- is a twist of late-stage capitalism i was not expecting

if ur directing a complaint @ their account using it like customer service fine
I'd been having months of problems with ACA health insurance bureaucratic nonsense until l started tweeting at @coveredca. Everything was cleared up in a week afterward.
I hate having to yell like that, but it did work.
― Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 28 May 2015 01:41 (eight years ago) link
i think it's ridiculous that major corporations believe twitter complaints are much more important than traditional customer service but as long as they do i will use whatever venue works

“Lately I’ve been posting for different apps, and it can range from anywhere from $500 - $1,000 per post — it’s awesome,” Asa said. “I actually did an app tweet last week and I ended up getting the app 20,000 downloads off one tweet.”
lol next level wld be to then employ bots to download the app

oh another thing i don't like about twitter is when someone you are cottoning to as a person worthy of respect and admiration tweets something that can't be overlooked for its dumbness and you're like, dammit, i wanted you to be cool

Counterpoint: Cheryl Lynn just called out Anita Baker on twitter over some seemingly petty shit and got blocked by her. It is now forever classic.

gonna follow a bunch of people back soon but man it's nice being weaned off the constant updates.

it is definitely like the modern day idiot box - you just have to be able to switch it off - everything becomes equally hysterical and irritating. i only really read it at work (less boring than work) with the odd tweet when at home.

opting out of twitter from jump continues to feel like the right call for my life
― like a giraffe of nah (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 16:10 (eight years ago) link
there are some really good things about it too - it brings me closer to communities of people talking about things i'm interested in - or allows me to discover knowledge on more particular interests, but it is hard to fence off the useful info and stop everything else crashing in

just a few months into having a twitter account but i am still finding it a useful networking tool in my field. my unfiltered feed is 60% worthless though, i find it more useful to check in on individuals i like
― marcos, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 17:06 (eight years ago) link
Mute the 60% that sucks if you don't want to get hit with the guilt of an unfollow

empowering
also if somebody notices it's happens in a kind of neurotic shame-zone dedicated to monitoring one's own popularity & so you know it's hard to really casually mention you noticed

shdnt be able to mute ppl u follow imho, its a violation
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 17:22 (eight years ago) link
it is a weird 'have it both ways' and i have never done it on principle. but i guess it helps if there are people you don't want to see who you don't want to deal with with them knowing you unfollowed them, though, unfortunately there is social ugliness on twitter that it can be better not to allow to escalate for some people. especially given how badly Twitter seems to handle issues of stalking, harrassment, etc.

Now, too much bad content... unfollow immediately
