You might lose your memory of all mental activity since the last backup but, meh, it's the weekend so how much likely to be lost really?

passive-aggressive rageaholic (snoball), Saturday, 30 May 2015 17:23 (eight years ago) link

not much good point.

the other night i went out and met some fun people at a bar. i said something like brb and went outside to find a smoke, leaving my wallet on the bar in good faith (i know.) well the bartender, who i was talking to as well bc he was friends with the others, comes out to find me, literally walks down the street thinking i had skipped out on my tab. he was so patronizing that i didn't tip him and left, after pointing out that my wallet was right in front of him the whole time. not sure what pissed me off more - his attitude or the fact that i was stupid enough to leave my wallet unattended.

That old classic, switching on a kettle with no water in it.

passive-aggressive rageaholic (snoball), Saturday, 11 July 2015 09:22 (eight years ago) link

I have on my to do list to fill up the tea kettle every night before bed just so I can avoid that.

Jeff, Saturday, 11 July 2015 09:45 (eight years ago) link

That other old classic, putting water in the kettle but then not switching it on, and several minutes later wondering why it isn't boiling.

I have on more than one occasion started panicking and thinking I've lost my keys when I'm sitting in my car and looking through my bag and can't find them.

The keys I would have used to get into the car.

left my nice waterproof jacket to dry on the grass at a festival and now i have to carry a stupid umbrella around. i'll probably lose the thing too.

left my electro-classical guitar out in the back yard for two days and nights. my housemate found it and brought it in - it was dripping wet. amazed it hadn't been stolen.

cod latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 14:30 (eight years ago) link

the same day i found my guitar all wet, i realised i'd left £15 worth of food shopping on the train home.

cod latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 14:31 (eight years ago) link

Lost my keys yesterday. $80 to replace car keys these days is some bullshit.

how's life, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 14:33 (eight years ago) link

Is it one of those weird fancy keys? My last car was a 2000 VW Golf and it had this square remote for the locks with a key that flipped out of it and the guy who sold me the car was like "This costs approximately $1,000,000 to replace so don't lose the key."

August 7: Freaked out because I forgot to pay rent, so I dropped off a check at the office.

Today I asked landlord why they still haven't cashed my rent check.

Answer: I had already paid rent on August 1, and they'd been meaning to ask what to do with the August 7 check.

This explains why I was so inexplicably broke for the last few weeks!

I'm very happy about it b/c I have a whole month's rent back in the budget!

The last year of working full-time/overtime + school half-time/full-time has fucked my mind.

I had an orthotics appointment set up this week for the same day as a dentist appointment--dentist at 11:30, orthotics at 4:30. With such a large gap, I moved the orthotics to 3:00 when I was there for the initial consultation. I got home, realized the dentist was for 1:30, so I called them and moved it back to 4:30. This morning, I realized I had Jays tickets for the same day, and had arranged to meet someone at 5:00. Called the orthotics place, moved the appointment to a different day. Now I realize the Jays game is in fact on a different day and not a conflict; I could have left things as is.

I promised the girl this morning that under no circumstances would I try to reschedule yet again. So I'll leave things as is.

my 'I threw away my candy bar and I ate the wrapper' moment: I was making some ginger sandwich cookies on Friday, and I was wondering why the dough was so sticky and hard to work with as I shaped it into balls and dropped them on the cookie sheet. about 10 minutes after putting the sheet in the oven, I opened the freezer to find that the dough was still sitting on the shelf where I'd left it to chill. It turns out I had mistaken the filling for dough, and when I opened the oven I was confronted with 18 lumps of partly scorched cream cheese, and the dough was partly frozen because I had left it in the freezer for so long. fml.

scarlett bohansson (unregistered), Sunday, 15 November 2015 23:26 (eight years ago) link

(in my defense, the filling was roughly the same color as the dough due to the fact that I had spiced both mixtures with cinnamon)

oh noooo

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 November 2015 23:45 (eight years ago) link

on the plus side, I only had to remake the filling (the dough was fine once it thawed) and the second batch turned out perfect. I'm usually very careful with my cooking but I was very tired that day.

I need to confess this somewhere. I have a small secondary retirement account that doesn't have most of our savings in it but that I use to play around with stocks a little. I had a stock that I thought I had sold, that I had certainly meant to because it was a short-term thing and I had very good reasons I knew I didn't want to hold it. I hadn't. I didn't check my account for a couple months. When I opened my account again, I saw that the stock was still there, and I realized I had lost, uh, a meaningful amount of money -- not a life-changing amount but a headsmacking amount. I probably shouldn't be messing with stocks at all.

I tend to wear a casual T-shirt to work on Fridays, and this morning I took out my black Rubber Soul T-shirt. What I actually ended up putting on, though (must have been lying there in the vicinity)--which I didn't realize until I got to work--was something else:

http://ep.yimg.com/ay/stylinonline/texas-chainsaw-massacre-survive-t-shirt-12.jpg

Woman, hook, chainsaw--not really suitable for a school. I covered it up first period with a sweater, then in second period I was able to grab a school sports jersey from one of the coaches and put that on for the rest of the day. Once everything was resolved, I did share this story with the front office. (Also suggested it might be a good idea to redo our school shirts: "H_________ Public School: Who will survive and what will be left of them?")

I somehow thought the driving lesson I have every week at 12 was at 12.30 and missed it then was waiting and getting mad at him when it was obv all my fault

What is a bit worrying though is the feeling of "why does my diary day 12 every week when I am totally convinced it's always been 12:30", really feel like I'm losing my mind sometimes

B cooked some 2 minute noodles for his son the other night and forgot them on the stove for at least 10 mins. There was this weird gooey gloop all over the pot afterward.

Kid ate the noodles anyway apparently.

oh boy, a couple weeks of vacation had some moments of complete mental dislocation

I ordered a drink a week ago, got a canadian dollar coin in change, and went to drop it in a tip jar. I dropped it directly in my drink, which was in front of me, a foot left of the tip jar

I tried to pick up a breakfast pastry at the airport and managed to completely fumble it and drop it across the front of my shirt

immediately forgot names after learning them, along with basic vocabulary words

mumbled "durrrr" into one of those phone menu trees

When I'm not well I have a habit of talking to inanimate objects - not in a complicated sense, by I end up thanking ATMs and microwaves and trains etc. Not sure if that counts as absent minded - I don't mean to do it, it just happens.

I can't be the only person who does this but whenever it's my birthday and people say "happy birthday" to me, I sometimes repeat it back to them or have to stop myself from doing it, like you would with "merry Christmas" or "happy New year"

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 13:25 (seven years ago) link
