its not 100% bad luck

oh for sure, he fell awkwardly on a knee that was already messed up. it's not a given that he would have been as good in the next few games as he was coming off of like a week of rest.

I've got the Warriors in a bet with a kid in my class. He wins, the class gets a free period to play around on their devices; I win, he has to go a full day without talking.

The rest of the class seems conflicted on whether they want the device time or a day where he doesn't talk.

Classic stakes.

maybe this is so obvious as to not need mentioning but i do feel it needs mentioning for ilh posterity: cavs played kyrie 44 mins in his first game back after a knee injury and he injured his knee

it's the finals and he was playing well though, i don't have much of a problem with it

k3vin k., Saturday, 6 June 2015 14:34 (eight years ago) link

yeha obvs this is for all the marbles but they def took a risk

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 June 2015 14:57 (eight years ago) link

yeah k3vo otm. they needed to win that specific game very badly, and if kyrie is gonna play in the series then he needed to play.

J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 June 2015 15:24 (eight years ago) link

he can play w/o playing 44 mins, i mean was that their plan or were they just like fuck it at some point

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 June 2015 15:27 (eight years ago) link

maybe it was brons decision

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 June 2015 15:29 (eight years ago) link

they prob could have played more shump-jr-bron-thompson-mozgov lineups but i guess blatt wanted to play pretty small and... dellavedova is not good

J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 June 2015 15:39 (eight years ago) link

also like, what's the line where it's too many minutes? 40? 38? 35? idk. maybe he just shouldn't have been playing.

J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 June 2015 15:40 (eight years ago) link

the guy is getting like 45 million over 4 years. they pay him to play in these games if he can play

k3vin k., Saturday, 6 June 2015 15:44 (eight years ago) link

They gonna pay his next contract when he's washed up from injury at 27?

tsrobodo, Saturday, 6 June 2015 15:50 (eight years ago) link

if kyrie is washed up from injury at 27 it's not going to be because he played 5 minutes too many in the nba finals at age 23

Broken kneecap much better than ligament damage but the tendinitis is troubling

Spottie, Saturday, 6 June 2015 16:29 (eight years ago) link

tendinitis generally goes away with rest tho can be chronic, broken kneecap shd heal fine, kyrie played 44 mins an is now out of the finals

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 June 2015 16:31 (eight years ago) link

If only shump made that putback

Chicago will probably be looking for a point guard by then

I totally agree with both parts of this, I guess if he was cleared there shouldn't really be any restrictions (and it's the finals) and if he's not really right then they prob should have had a strict minutes limit. It was a total non contact deal though so who knows could have happened in minute 1 of game 2, it's not like an rg3 type situation where they obviously murdered him

juice college (agent hibachi), Saturday, 6 June 2015 17:34 (eight years ago) link

It's strange that Steph curry once almost a sad chronic injury case has his team in position for the ring and it's the other team with the mangled high scoring point guard

juice college (agent hibachi), Saturday, 6 June 2015 17:36 (eight years ago) link

Kyrie hasn't really been injury free since high school.

tsrobodo, Saturday, 6 June 2015 18:03 (eight years ago) link

kyrie is made of glass sorry

and that bron left the head because wade's body broke down only to arrange to play with two superstars with 830 career injuries between them

the heat*

J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 June 2015 21:21 (eight years ago) link

None of their injuries are chronic or recurring so I can forgive him for assuming they'd catch a break.

tsrobodo, Saturday, 6 June 2015 21:28 (eight years ago) link

speaking of asterisks how about all the teams who didn't have to face the dubs with bogut last year

There are still people bitching about the travel even with the GIF.

I kinda like the Warriors winning cos it's been 4 damn decades and I think the Cavs will have many more shots...until LeBron joins Ranger Varese

lol, blatt trying to blame klay for kyrie's injury rather than admitting a minutes limit might have been a good idea http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2015/story/_/id/13024811/cleveland-cavaliers-guard-kyrie-irving-undergoes-surgery-broken-kneecap

slothroprhymes, Sunday, 7 June 2015 22:07 (eight years ago) link

Blatt added that he believes Irving's persistent tendinitis was not the direct cause of the fractured kneecap.

"You know, that's a doctor's question, but in my opinion, absolutely not," Blatt said. "It has nothing to do with it."

Blatt added that although he is "not a scientist," the activities of humans have "nothing at all to do," with global warming, which is "a hoax."

Clay, Sunday, 7 June 2015 22:13 (eight years ago) link

uhh klay pretty clearly hammered the side of his knee

micah, Sunday, 7 June 2015 22:24 (eight years ago) link

question: is pivoting allowed after a jump stop? can't find it outlined specifically in the rules, and everything I read on it suggested "no", which would mean the controversial travel was technically two, possibly three travels in one.

not saying klay and irving didn't bump knees, just hate that "i'm not an expert but here's my expert opinion" phrasing

Clay, Sunday, 7 June 2015 23:22 (eight years ago) link

yea it's just disingenuous of blatt to completely discount how much kyrie was played in game 1 with a dormant injury in his determination of what caused the serious reaggravation of said injury

slothroprhymes, Sunday, 7 June 2015 23:52 (eight years ago) link

man did they have to have Oakland PD bear the flag tonight

Santana sounds more and more like a bored kid in a Sam Ash year after year. what was the point of having the drums? why was his tone so bland? will John McLaughlin play before Game 3?
