I got the top five, but not in the right order. Best album: Master of Puppets, shark-jump: Cliff's death. (I still like AJFA, in its own obsessive, claustrophobic way. And Garage Days, obviously! But the band really lost something and never got it back when Cliff died.)

I feel a bit bad not having voted for Unforgiven as it's the first Metallica song I loved - my friend played it for me on his Walkman at school and I was bowled over, I remember it very vividly. Huge moment in my music fandom. I still love the spaghetti western vibe on the choruses, but the verses are pretty ploddy really.

On a side not Lulu is what got me interested in metallica, and it helped turn me on to a lot of heavy metal, which is something I've really appreciated as a concertgoer since, attending doom festivals and thrash shows

Kinda want to address this. I think she would have been happy with the choice. We were headbangers. So like, I don't feel like any slight was done to the deceased. She didn't die from suicide, so the lyrics were off the mark, but I think we were all just 14-year-olds doing our best to cope. Still, I haven't had much taste for the song since.

Anyway, been watching so much backstage crap from these guys. Last night I googled up Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica to have on in the background while I was cooking dinner. Found a youtube that was an hour and a half long. That looked about right to me so I clicked play and went into the other room to start chopping up cucumbers. After about 10 minutes, I realize this ain't right so I go back to my computer to check it. It's the Year and a Half in the Life OUTTAKES REEL. A Year and a Half is just not enough for a diehard Metallica fan.

People say E.A. Poe all the time in my experience, but I've never heard anyone say H.C. Anderson.

Do they say it like the announcer in those EA Sports ads?

Ok, I hadn't noticed this before, but does anyone else hear something that sounds like someone saying "ooo" at about 0:27 in Creeping Death?

pplains "h" is pronounced something like "hoe" so the initial aspiration makes for a nice name - "hoe cee andersen"

no clue why the convention is to use the initials - why is it J K Rowling and J R R Tolkien? maybe similar explanation

Just never thought about names being commonly said in different ways like that. Pronounciation is one thing, but initials and format is another.

yeah me neither - but it's actually nice to know that the more common English version is the full name since every once in while Hans Christian comes up in touristy conversation for me, and "h" is such a clumsy letter to pronounce in english anyway
