it's amazing that the MTA is the producer on that "hey look how ridiculously antiquated and unreliable our systems are"
kinda terrifying

two weeks pass...

as a long time defender of the r32 on the c train, I am ready to accept their replacement, and regret the delay.

I will report back on my score after I'm done

chinavision!, Friday, 14 August 2015 17:28 (eight years ago) link

there are too many generic outer borough stations, like I can't remember which far out brooklyn/bronx stops I've gotten on and which I haven't. the only queens ones I'm missing are gonna be random rockaways stops, the only manhattan ones would be one or two random harlem stops maybe. I actually made it a point to visit every paris metro stop when I lived there, but outer borough ny stations are generic enough that it's not worth the trouble.

iatee, Friday, 14 August 2015 17:38 (eight years ago) link

I don't think I've done a number of Manhattan stops north of 96th if I'm remembering correctly. Also hardly anything in the Bronx really.

chinavision!, Friday, 14 August 2015 17:54 (eight years ago) link

I wish I went to every metro stop in paris. next time...

chinavision!, Friday, 14 August 2015 17:54 (eight years ago) link

123 but yeah i'm sure i'm missing at least a handful. too much head-scratching of "now where would i have gotten off that one time..." etc. cute though!

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Friday, 14 August 2015 18:48 (eight years ago) link

Since 1998??? How would I even KNOW??

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 August 2015 19:28 (eight years ago) link

I clicked a bunch just because it's literally impossible that I've never gotten off the A at 23rd street in over 15 years, I just didn't bother to make a mental note of it any of the 175 times.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 August 2015 19:36 (eight years ago) link

i have no idea -- probably not very many, tho, considering i've been here nine years

a long time ago i went to some lengths to visit a whole bunch of montreal metro stations

mookieproof, Friday, 14 August 2015 20:09 (eight years ago) link

When this challenge is exhausted, the next pinnacle is every entrance of every subway station

Corn on the macabre (Jon not Jon), Friday, 14 August 2015 21:14 (eight years ago) link

Ended up at about 170 but I think that might be a little short, can't remember one-off trips here or there. But not bad! lololol I clicked almost everything just to see what level you can get up to, and it's "MTA Employee."

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 August 2015 21:46 (eight years ago) link

i gave up after a hundred, this is making me remember one night stands and plays i was in and shit i'd rather not think about

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Friday, 14 August 2015 22:24 (eight years ago) link

i made sure to visit every station in HK but the thought of trying to do that in NYC fills me with terror and dread

, Saturday, 15 August 2015 14:49 (eight years ago) link

fucked-up R train bullshit

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Monday, 17 August 2015 14:40 (eight years ago) link

So the N line in South Brooklyn runs on two outer tracks, served by old and decrepit station platforms, with two apparently defunct inner tracks going unused.

Right now at my station they're building a wooden deck over the unused inner tracks, apparently to make a temporary passenger platform while they work on the old ones? Excited to see this happen one day at a time! I should start taking pics so I can get some enterprising ilxor to make them into a time-lapse gif later, obviously.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Monday, 17 August 2015 16:10 (eight years ago) link

I hope everyone saw the article that said updating the signal system on all the tracks will take A CENTURY.

when i gave him a "what the fuck?" look he said "don't look at me homeboy"
and it's like, i think you give up the right to complain about people staring at you when you masturbate in public
fairly sure that's in the constitution

why we're a capital of the world, as the Blaze said yesterday.

anyone tried the Hudson Yards 7 terminal yet? that got done "fast," huh?

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 September 2015 03:24 (eight years ago) link

what's been wrong w u forks? :(

I work in the Starrett-Lehigh building (11th and 26th) so the hudson yards is now the closest stop to my work. I did it yesterday and today. (Lorimer G to Court Sq 7 to Hudson yds).

The station itself is nice, idk if they are planning shops or anything but rn it's basically big and empty. And it's hella deep-- the escalator to the lobby level is one of the longest and steepest I've been on.

If you're headed inland you can exit right into civilization on 10th etc; as for me the walk down 11th from 34th to 26th is boring and bleak, all construction with no real sidewalks, just those safety divider things.

A creep on the 7 this morning got some of his sandwich on my leg. But better mayo than 'mayo' (cf forks)

Jon: spinal injury that started as a herniated disc in my neck then led to what's been diagnosed as a postdural puncture headache and three weeks of debilitating migraines. vaguely more manageable now but can't really comfortably go out of the house yet. seeing a neurologist today.

funny you should ask, it's the one thing i did the most while i was convalescing! played through 2/3 of scholar of the first sin lying flat on the couch in a haze of metallic pain as a means to distract.

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 16 September 2015 15:40 (eight years ago) link

btw forks there is now a pilot program to get "showtime" onto the sidewalks anfd off the trains.

7 will now be the closest train to the Eagle leather bar.

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 September 2015 16:45 (eight years ago) link

i would be fine with showtime on the sidewalk as long as it doesn't BLOCK the sidewalks
i love b-boying; i just can't handle people relentlessly fucking with me

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 16 September 2015 16:48 (eight years ago) link

I work in the Starrett-Lehigh building

I love that building!

chinavision!, Wednesday, 16 September 2015 18:08 (eight years ago) link

I also checked out the new station. The escalators were disconcerting. The angle of the ribbing on the sides and the small patch of floor that's visible made it feel like I was headed straight down.

chinavision!, Wednesday, 16 September 2015 18:10 (eight years ago) link

you don't get the same effect on the long ones in london because they have advertising oriented horizontally

but on this one there's no advertising and the tiling is parallel to the escalator, not to the horizon, so it's weird!
