My understanding is that it wasn't EPA employees, but private sector employees working under a government contract who were doing the work that led to the spill.

Aimless, Thursday, 13 August 2015 17:50 (eight years ago) link

You mean like Blackwater or something?

how's life, Thursday, 13 August 2015 17:54 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, except they had no guns or armored vehicles, which takes all the fun out of being a government contractor.

Aimless, Thursday, 13 August 2015 17:56 (eight years ago) link

The government made a horrible mess due to a horrible mistake made while trying to clean up a horrible mess made by industry - which of course means that the government causes All the Problems, and industry is blameless. Right?

no it will not

La Lechera, Friday, 14 August 2015 16:51 (eight years ago) link

Are you complaining about the complaining about complaining?

what is the phenomenon that this is railing against? do parents today give their kids menus?

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 14 August 2015 17:18 (eight years ago) link

honestly i would be hurt and embarrassed if i were a kid and i found out that my mom was posting stuff like that about my eating habits

La Lechera, Friday, 14 August 2015 17:23 (eight years ago) link

i think it is railing against picky eaters?

La Lechera, Friday, 14 August 2015 17:24 (eight years ago) link

More consumer showmanship

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 14 August 2015 17:25 (eight years ago) link

i find the self-congratulatory nature of so many of these memes so massively noxious. like, the only sensible response to any of them is "fuck the fuck off you conceited asshole".

more just "life is hard and i am tough" in a way that deflects the sentiment onto some imaginary person/phenomenon so the poster doesn't have to appear vulnerable.

idk how it's meant honestly, only that it seems unusually sour and mean for everyone involved
like hearing someone bitch mercilessly about a person who is sweet and intends no harm

I have to say looks better than most of what I was served as a kid, I'd be happy to choke down a few green beans for that spread.

nickn, Friday, 14 August 2015 21:21 (eight years ago) link

that's a corny meme but as a parent who has tried things otherwise I 100% endorse its contents

corny macro I mean

Trying to make separate food that the kid "likes" is a hole with no bottom

five six and (man alive), Saturday, 15 August 2015 02:11 (eight years ago) link

I mean, you know, to a point. We do try to some extent to eat things that K likes to begin with. Just gave up on having multiple options or making separate food.

five six and (man alive), Saturday, 15 August 2015 02:12 (eight years ago) link

I can't help but think there is some middle ground between never offering your child anything but the foods they like best, whether it is as a wholly separate meal made just for them or everyone at the table eating nothing but 100% kid-approved food, and telling your child "I don't care what you like; eat whatever I put on your plate or else go fuck yourself".

Aimless, Saturday, 15 August 2015 03:19 (eight years ago) link

In our house that's called "yogurt and blueberries for dinner" but ymmv.
