ha, i think my energy levels are at about 2% right now, i'm sure i would have made a less robotic post if my brain wasn't bumbling along in energy-saving mode

feargal czukay (NickB), Monday, 17 August 2015 14:49 (eight years ago) link

no, i was just joking about the last two posts being me dumping mixes here!

I talked my friend into making an edit of Can't Run, But after hearing it in that mix posted upthread. Here it is: https://soundcloud.com/marshall_watson/cant-run-paul-simon-marshall-watson-edit

Got both CFCF albums yesterday. I knew Radiance & Submission was coming out but The Colours of Life was a complete surprise (and is my favourite of the two

oh i only know about the colours of life. was prompted to check it out by the boomkat update mentioning phil collins' "hand in hand" in the blurb, have always loved that song

feargal czukay (NickB), Monday, 17 August 2015 15:11 (eight years ago) link

working backwards now and listening to outside from 2013 - similar vibe to gigi masin's song stuff, it's good

feargal czukay (NickB), Monday, 17 August 2015 15:14 (eight years ago) link

not waking me up much though, that's for sure

feargal czukay (NickB), Monday, 17 August 2015 15:14 (eight years ago) link

Make sure to check out his mini-album Exercises. One of my favourite releases from the last few years. Definitely won't wake you up though

i will do that for sure

The Colours of Life indeed a very pleasant surprise. His latest vocal albums (Outsiders & R&S, awesome artwork though on the latter) don't really appeal to me tbh, but this is a return to form. The River EP still his best imo, much in the same vein as TCOL, and apparently inspired from Fitzcarraldo.

the european nikon is here (grauschleier), Tuesday, 18 August 2015 14:21 (eight years ago) link

I'm not so sure about the Werner Herzog connection with The River but there's one track that's def influenced by the Popul Vuh soundtrack. I'll rep for the Exercises EP as his peak so far but maybe that's because I slightly prefer his influences on that one (Sylvian, Sakamoto.) If you prefer Security-era Gabriel or Steve Reich, then your top pick will likely differ.

I'd agree that R&S is a vocal album in the same way that Another Green World is a vocal album. But it is a damn fine album for sunsets.

tho it is annoying to get recommendations for un-released stuff, and the only place i could hear it was with effing tim sweeney talking over a good portion of it, "that ibiza track" is pretty great. are there other "sunrain" re-works like this out there?

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 1 September 2015 00:00 (eight years ago) link

this just about belongs here - hunee has been doing a residency at nts - dunno if you guys listen to his sets but i find him one of the best for digging and generally great selections:

https://soundcloud.com/hunee/sets/nts-radio-august-2015

also the mark barrett album is good - dunno if anyone mentioned that here.

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 2 September 2015 11:13 (eight years ago) link

I think the Mark Barrott album might have had one or two mentions. Has anyone got his Music For Pilates album or whatever it's called?

Sunrain re-works? - there's this of course:

oops, someone already got to that

It's worth repeating.

doug watson, Friday, 2 October 2015 02:02 (eight years ago) link

Swing as it has been mentioned again - am i imagining things or is the version on Bandcamp a slightly ropey vinyl rip? Actually thought I'd pick up the digital for a change but I want vinyl to be vinyl and digi from a clean source if possible, call me old fashioned.

Noel Emits, Friday, 2 October 2015 08:09 (eight years ago) link

Swing = seeing, but suit yourself, Telephone.

Noel Emits, Friday, 2 October 2015 08:13 (eight years ago) link

You're right, there does seem to be some surface noise in the left channel for the first bit. Not sure Into The Light used a needle drop of the remix for Bandcamp or whether Telephone sampled the vinyl instead of using stems from the original track.

doug watson, Friday, 2 October 2015 13:42 (eight years ago) link

I noticed that as well - my guess is that Telephones sampled the vinyl.
