I'm a drummer and Cobham is on my top 10 for sure. When I was a teenager looking for the most crazy chopsy stuff I could find, I got his Mahavishnu records for cheap and he immediately became my idol. I still can't play "Vital Transformation," though.

I have four of his solo albums. I like that they're not just stupid chops exercises like the drum nerd in me was hoping for; they're actually less over-the-top than the Mahavishnu records.

Love Cobham's '70s solo albums. Just wrote a big piece about Crosswinds that'll be up on Burning Ambulance on Tuesday. Shabazz, a live album of mostly new music, is great, too.
