That one seemed more annoying initially because I thought it was from a MFA candidate, but I think maybe it's an undergrad and sophomore art students get a free pass on making horrible things IMO

"The work of Jasmine Kay Uy for her University of Texas at Austin Department of Art and Art History Digital Foundations class with Bethany Johnson titled "Art is Pointless...". The prompt was to create a work that investigated site-specificity, public setting, and text-based art using Illustrator and the vinyl cutter.
For more work by Uy, visit her portfolio: https://www.behance.net/gallery/29917475/Other-Artworks";

Actually, this reminds me that during college, H (who is Israeli) actually did live in a house with a turkish muslim, a sikh who was dating a white american who converted to islam, and two white people from florida who turned out to have white supremacist leanings and listened to nazi skinhead punk. Unfortunately, some of them were assholes and they did not all laugh, drink coffee and become good friends, except for H and the Turkish Muslim.

I am sure I've posted things from her before but my oldest friend who I've known since practically birth leaves for posting shit like this. It is not an exaggeration when I say she will often post around 20+ of these types of things a day. I was recently the lucky recipient of this beaut.

1) I'm pretty sure that creepy ass doll is an orangutan reborn (http://www.reborns.com/) which instantly makes it horrifying.
2) WHY IS THIS THING TALKING ABOUT US DYING?!

:(

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 22 October 2015 20:02 (eight years ago) link

there's a guy who works here who posts to FB perhaps 30-40 times a day (i wouldn't know for certain, since i've long since hidden his posts and only see them when other "friends" comment on them) --most of them either macros or links to articles i suspect he hasn't even fully read himself -- and still routinely complains about not having enough time to get work done, etc. etc. i feel like the little facebook "hand w/ thumbs-up" icon should reach out of his computer monitor and slap some sense into him.

wizzz! (amateurist), Thursday, 22 October 2015 20:04 (eight years ago) link

Is he single? I think I know his soulmate!

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 22 October 2015 20:05 (eight years ago) link

my first post should have read that she "lives for posting" . . . rather than "leaves for" posting etc.

I do feel really sad for the women in a lot of ways but it's also so strange and creepy and very unsettling. On that thread there's a link to a fake birth video.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 22 October 2015 20:23 (eight years ago) link

my god that stuff is so sad

a llove spat over a llama-keeper (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 22 October 2015 21:47 (eight years ago) link

Yeah. I think I find it hard to understand the women who have kids still at home yet still play with the dolls. I can almost understand a women who never had but wanted kids or one whose adult children are not at home (almost) but the ones who have toddlers in one room and yet are dressing up and playing with their hyper realistic newborn dolls in the next? That I don't get.

how? i guess i am not very FB savvy

go to the "friend's" fb page and there should be a drop-down near the top saying "following", pull that down and select "unfollow"

at this point I think I have more fb friends that I don't follow than ones that I do

schlep and back trio (anagram), Friday, 23 October 2015 07:45 (eight years ago) link

the only risk in this strategy being that they post some major life event on fb and then when you see them you say "hey, how's things" and they're like "didn't you know"

schlep and back trio (anagram), Friday, 23 October 2015 07:47 (eight years ago) link

Lol I've totally done that. If you didn't only post competition entries and statuses about 'cheeky drinks' then maybe I'd give a shit

kinder, Friday, 23 October 2015 09:32 (eight years ago) link

This can also lead to situations where the FB friend outright *dies* without you knowing.

Had one friend die of cancer three years ago and family didn't convert page to Tribute page (as most people don't know that's an option).

Then her b'day arrived and she got several happy b'day wishes on FB from casual FB friends that actually didn't know she had died. Eerie as hell.

x-post: That happened to me as well, though I hadn't unfollowed him, I just didn't notice he died. Just saw it was his birthday, thought 'oh yeah, we studied together, wonder how he's doing', went to his page and the first post is his widow talking about how much she still misses him. A sudden stroke, not even forty, newborn kid. Horrifying.
