Y'know, there are a ton of fetishes that inspire revulsion (like the above acquaintance) but tbh as long as they keep it in "play" spaces (both physically and mentally) (like it's okay if you want to pretend to be a baby with people who like it when you pretend to be a baby and it doesn't affect how you deal with actual babies), and don't involve anyone who doesn’t want to be involved. I say more power to 'em, even if it does kind of turn my stomach.

I do think, both when you have a fetish and when you think about fetishes you don't have, we all tend to grossly underestimate how many people actually enjoy other people's kinks. That enjoyment really take things from "creepy guy in his basement" to "just a person letting his or her freak flag fly in a space where it's okay to do so."

I can't imagine how awful it must be to find yourself involuntarily turned on by something almost everyone finds disgusting but isn't, strictly speaking, morally wrong. That level of shame isn't good for anyone, imo.

I mean, obviously, if it's non-consentual stuff, the onus is that person to keep it in check forever, and acting on it is despicable. But things like infantalism? Feel for them, even though eeeewwwww.

I also wonder how often fetishes like that aren't actually sexual in nature, but sex is the only space wherein *some people* might accept it, like dudes who go to dominatrixes more to work out control issues than to get their rocks off. Probably not really a binary thing.
