i let that one get too expensive to truly enjoy as no record should cost more than £10 but someone else can enjoy its stay in their house, i can reminisce over a pie about the times hearing it not knowing its name

I've been playing Bobby Konders "Massai Women" a lot recently; it's on the B-side of "The Poem". It feels newly contemporary, and fits in well with a lot of the recent house music that I've been enjoying.

I'm not sure if I even like this, but I've always kind wondered: did Westbam invent big beat back in 1990?

Posted this one before may but theres a telegram from big dog towers at 17 mins in this Gemini mix. Sounds like the kind of big dog the late great might own?

saer, Tuesday, 9 February 2016 19:01 (eight years ago) link

the late great, Tuesday, 9 February 2016 23:32 (eight years ago) link

the late great, Wednesday, 10 February 2016 07:02 (eight years ago) link

damn, that mix is starting my day the right way.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 10 February 2016 10:56 (eight years ago) link

with a burst of energy followed by nostalgia and regret at not being exactly sure if the track at 7 mins is thomas bangalter, from trax on da rox or whatever?

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 10 February 2016 10:56 (eight years ago) link

I dont know what it is! yet...

saer, Wednesday, 10 February 2016 11:01 (eight years ago) link

u right about the bangalter, LG. it's "outrun"

andrew m., Wednesday, 10 February 2016 16:06 (eight years ago) link

still sounds brilliant. most of the stuff on that mix does, actually.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 10 February 2016 16:11 (eight years ago) link

found this one via that wormhole earlier - quite different, a lot more melody, but really good also:

sorry about that video

the late great, Wednesday, 24 February 2016 08:21 (eight years ago) link

I heard a record the other week which i've not been able to shake, and I havent worked out what it is yet. it samples the vocals from Erykah Badu's On and On, a bit of searching uncovered a few tracks using this but none of them are it (its not the Norma Jean Bell one)

It sounds like its from sometime between 98 and 01, probably British. It will probably turn up again somewhere..

saer, Sunday, 28 February 2016 17:50 (eight years ago) link

its Boo Williams

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33m_XSGrDbs

saer, Monday, 29 February 2016 21:22 (eight years ago) link

i mean, the interview is Boo Williams, not the record with the erykah badu sample...thats definitely not Boo!

wrong thread

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 21:54 (eight years ago) link

@ saer - do you mean the 3/4 seconds after jon cutler's "it's yours"?

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 21:56 (eight years ago) link

i thought it served the function of a noisy, acid-y rave track perfectly. sorry if it's not a techno bobbins.

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 22:03 (eight years ago) link

sorry that was needless of me...

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 22:07 (eight years ago) link

it's ok, i never know which electronic music thread to post on and almost always feel like i'm in the wrong one.

@ saer - do you mean the 3/4 seconds after jon cutler's "it's yours"?

― japanese mage (LocalGarda),

No! I meant the Jon Cutler record, I didn't know it!

saer, Thursday, 3 March 2016 10:07 (eight years ago) link

Can't believe you didn't know that, you obviously never went to a cocktail bar, hairdressers, clothes shop, hotel lobby etc for the 4/5 years after its release!

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 3 March 2016 11:15 (eight years ago) link

I wouldnt know anything about any of those places, but I dont think it was ever played over the tannoy at Seel Park, though the tannoy was broken for a couple of years. If only the same could be said of the speakers in shops today. Rymans is a no go area, horrific in there, they used to call him on his cellphone, every day i walk past. I walk a different way now, and ordered the pencil I wanted online

saer, Thursday, 3 March 2016 11:25 (eight years ago) link

this is a really really good album but one of the worst covers i have ever seen, let's all point and laugh

Have you heard his new record on fathers and sons?

saer, Thursday, 3 March 2016 22:22 (eight years ago) link

no! i hadn't heard about it yet. newest harden thing i picked up was "beyond chicago" on soul print

the late great, Thursday, 3 March 2016 22:32 (eight years ago) link

my brian harden collection is:

play time EP
instinctive pleasure EP
nu birth vol. 1 EP
nu birth vol. 2 EP
black 3 EP
white 3 EP
beyond chicago EP
inner instincts album
instinctive state of ... album

what am i missing?

the late great, Thursday, 3 March 2016 22:36 (eight years ago) link

sometimes i feel like i could just listen to only moods & grooves artists for the rest of my life and i'd be content

brian harden, alton miller, mike grant, rick wade, kdj, theo parrish, gene hunt, glenn underground, kyle hall, andres, raybone jones, boo williams

what an incredible roster

the late great, Thursday, 3 March 2016 22:41 (eight years ago) link

It's this monster piece of vining kit, my next neighdoor neighbour came round and said that's well good that is, and she's right!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYsCmJ1aozo

2009 but only getting vinyl release now, was wondering what this was for a long while!

saer, Thursday, 3 March 2016 23:29 (eight years ago) link

my favourite Glenn track

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKOBVTrhrjw

this isnt just the shit, its also the compost too, the compost that conditions and fertilizes the soil, from which vibes can grow and be felt by anyone who takes a bit of time out and lets the reverie flow through them. its easy to forget stuff like this, but easy to remember it again too

saer, Friday, 4 March 2016 10:12 (eight years ago) link

well put

the late great, Friday, 4 March 2016 10:16 (eight years ago) link

yes that sums it up

forgotten and remembered so many times i forget where i first knew it from but its been seen hanging around again recently
