Most importantly, "the newest piece of work from the trio's ongoing collaborative sessions also serves as the first glimpse into an album scheduled for Spring." Yes.

the most frustrating musical moment of the year for me is on cfcf's Rain Dance when the piano is building into this summer downpour greek gods beach party and just when its about to really kick into high gear and all the paired off deities are going to score some stoner in the corner (eris?) plays her little deflating bamboo pipes refrain and everyone goes back to hands off

Universal Cave - Around the Bend

I suppose it's an edit of some old song but I can't find it.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 30 December 2015 09:01 (eight years ago) link

That was one of my favourites from last year, off their rather good Soft Rock For Hard Times mix

some amazing stuff in that test pressing post.

been listening to the jacob gurevitsch album the last few days - really great.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 4 January 2016 12:35 (eight years ago) link

honestly think the gurevitsch record is brilliant - like some dream world of hotel costes minus the shitty tracks

universal cave love! awesome. very much a fan of all of their mixes tbh, the balearic social one is partic great and relevant to this thread

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 01:18 (eight years ago) link

Loved the Test Pressing lists. I've already ordered 3 LPs after previewing them on Spotify & Soundcloud.

which 3 did you get? i am seriously buzzing with this test pressing list - it's like a whole year's worth of good music i didn't hear properly. i don't really keep my ear to the ground for lps, in some cases i'd heard tracks off these on soundcloud mixes, but as well as the jacob gourevitsch i'm so far really into steve hauschildt, len leise (heard a lot of this in diff mixes), jaako eino kalevi, and opez.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 23:50 (eight years ago) link

test pressing lists are the only one's i've seen that reflect my listening this year at all

The Bambi Davidson album is definitely going to be high up in my end of year ballot

groovypanda, Thursday, 7 January 2016 09:44 (eight years ago) link

I got 2 things from Len Leise, Vito Ricci and Paki/Visnadi after listening to stuff on the Test Pressing list. Still working through it all though.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 7 January 2016 17:45 (eight years ago) link

Probably going to buy the Max Richter too but I've enjoyed having that on Spotify to listen to beside my bed as I fall asleep.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 7 January 2016 17:46 (eight years ago) link

want to echo the love for the test pressing lists. that music for dreams comp is incredible

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Saturday, 9 January 2016 00:18 (eight years ago) link

that label has always put out good stuff - i remember selling their 12s and cd compilations about 10 years ago - cool that they are still going.

thought this track and album was cool, tho maybe more house and techno bobbins than balearic...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8UWDz5DH1s

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Saturday, 9 January 2016 00:28 (eight years ago) link

the lnrdcroy album has popped up in the bobbins thread and the rolling techno albums doing it wrong thread or w/e it's called. it was one of my fav albums of 2014 and one of my fav 1080p albums. man, 1080p had such a great 2015, mind-blowing really, the breadth of what they put out and the quality. vancouver bc canada is just killing it as they say.

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 10 January 2016 18:02 (eight years ago) link

1080p just has the worst aesthetic sense so i kinda avoid stuff they put out

-san (Lamp), Sunday, 10 January 2016 19:49 (eight years ago) link

i have no idea what that means

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 10 January 2016 21:40 (eight years ago) link

their album art and branding is on some dopey middle-aged creative trash fit so i just havent listened to much of the stuff they put out. im listening to the project pablo release rn and its pretty good

-san (Lamp), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:01 (eight years ago) link

admittedly its a stupid reason not to listen to stuff but theres already so much music and it was really off-putting

-san (Lamp), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:02 (eight years ago) link

All those ones listed are great, but this was my most listened to 1080p last year (maybe just cos it came out early on):

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Monday, 11 January 2016 20:31 (eight years ago) link

there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of aesthetic coherence between releases, that's why i didn't really know what you meant. i assumed it was up to the artist.

Another new CFCF album coming next month, this time on International Feel and described as "one of the most beautiful things we've signed"

this lullabies for insomniacs mix on red light radio is cool - kinda darker and only loosely balearic i guess, but fits best here:

https://soundcloud.com/lullabiesforinsomniacs/lullabies-for-insomniacs-02-redlight-radio-1912

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 12 January 2016 10:22 (eight years ago) link

also apropos of nothing, been listening to this bohren und der club of gore track a lot lately:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NDbXmAIKEQ

feels like the point where balearic meets goth - if anyone wants to point me towards more things like this, that'd be good.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 12 January 2016 10:24 (eight years ago) link

nice track but I would call this more chillout than anything... maybe check out the Late Night Tales After Dark mixes.

ain't no revival (it's from 1983) but i thought a lot of you might get a kick out of this great brazilian proggy jazz record:

i would have told you that balearic and goth seem like attitudinal opposites

except that this exists, and is good: http://www.discogs.com/Cure-The-Balearic-Sound-Of-The-Cure/release/3592148

xp that remix of "Close to Me" must have been a Cafe Del Mar standard right?

The Male Gaz Coombes (Neil S), Wednesday, 13 January 2016 08:47 (eight years ago) link

there are loads of remixes of the cure from that era - can remember a lot of bootlegs of them when i worked in a record store...

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 13 January 2016 09:32 (eight years ago) link

yeah they kind of got co-opted into baggy/acid house didn't they

The Male Gaz Coombes (Neil S), Wednesday, 13 January 2016 09:33 (eight years ago) link

Lullaby is the obvious Balearic one but this is one of my favourites. Anyone any idea where it's from as it's not the 12" version which is just under six minutes? Think it might just be an edit someone's done

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIMlPygBV2o

groovypanda, Wednesday, 13 January 2016 10:08 (eight years ago) link

there was a cool mix of "the walk" that a friend used to have a bootleg of - googling just gives me loads of horrendous recent attempts though

Regarding The Cure many of the remixes are on the 1990 album Mixed Up album (that I remember buying during the first term of my final year at Uni)

only half of the mixes on Mixed Up (just five on CD!) were previously released. The Walk and A Forest were completely new recordings,as Polygram had lost the master tapes. (This is why Smith later recorded a new version with Blank & Jones, too - they'd just sought permission to do a remix for their '80s series.)

someone upthread referred to mark barrott's pilates album, which is on Spotify FYI. listening now, definitely more on the new age tip but really great.it's Mark Barrott & Michael Conn, "Inner Harmony".

i really dig most of the Ptaki album, but nothing compares to "warsaw", imo (it appears on the CD version of Przelot and was previously on this ep)
