venus fly trap one is such a labored joke, i mean these things always are but i mean... does anybody ever think any of those things about flies or bears or rats? kinda undermines the observational humor thing they're going for...

My sister is one of those middle-aged women who post tons of Aunty Acid macros (in between supporting-the-police ones whenever someone in Minneapolis has the audacity to do a Black Lives Matter protest).

(Flopson, hope all okay re that situation. The idea expressed in that image - 'getting rid of toxic people' - is a pretty dangerous one ime, because usually people can't actually cut the alleged problem person out of their life, and just end up being cold and difficult to them)

idk some people seem to have had success cutting toxic ppl out of their lives

It really does become more and more like some kind of Up with People cult. (And don't make light of it.) They should consider a name change from Facebook to the Mike Curb Congregation.

Um, I can't.

But I don't see where to click to respond...this is a poll, right?

Using "still" implies the "us" the macro is addressed to only includes those who could drive a manual transmission vehicle in the past. So, probably most such drivers could "still" drive one.

quite.

My mum used to, but won't have a manual now.

Hey guyz remember how music didn't have sexy girls or well-coordinated boy bands pre-1981?

Reminds me of how annoyed I am at this one:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TLjxYXIxtKY/T0tK3Rl5ikI/AAAAAAAADcI/Sfdva1PI0Ls/s1600/425255_10150596921367138_500557137_9092003_1797553504_n.jpg

First, Sinatra didn't write that; Dorothy Fields did. He wrote almost no songs and certainly no standards.

Second, it's infuriatingly cherry-picked. Plenty of oldster records have stupid lyrics. Sinatra also sang "doo bee doo bee doo," for example. How about we talk about the genius of "lollipop, lollipop, oh lolly lolly lolly lollypop," and compare it to a relatively sophisticated, lyrically complex contemporary song?

Makes me want to go all contrarian on their ass and memeify something like "She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah" vs., I dunno, heck, "Ashes of American Flags" or something.

Mark G, Thursday, 7 January 2016 15:02 (eight years ago) link

Frank could sing still "doo bee doo" and it would have a million times the artistry of Bieber singing, I dunno, "Ave Maria" or something

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 7 January 2016 15:04 (eight years ago) link

You should do a whole FB page of just that.

When you've loved and lost the way Frank has, then you know what life's about.

Adam - yeah I know - I'd rather listen to Frank too. But it's still intellectually dishonest in a way I find irritating.

It's like comparing a 1926 Veuve Clicquot with a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 being shared by hobos outside 7-11, to prove that French wine is better than American wine.

You may still be correct in your conclusion, but it's a terrible way to make the argument.

so definitely not corny macro-related but i noticed that I'm starting to receive like official notifications from random shit I don't know about? Different from like spam friend requests, this is coming in the actual notifications icon at the top like "so and so added a photo" and I have no idea who or what they are and have no visible connection to thrm

Fucking coffee memes, I swear I see at least one of those a day from the same four people who all apparently would be locked up for murder now without it.

Also kind of surprised at the lack of confederate flags at countryrebel.com, though this probably explains it:

"Inspire, pioneer and spread the country lifestyle and rebel spirit that make this the greatest nation in the world. Founded in San Diego, CA"

Nothing says "country lifestyle" like San Diego, right? My wife has a newspaper clipping on her office door from a couple years ago about a full-on brawl at a bar in rural-ass Idaho that was started when one group referred to another as "a bunch of Californians".
