the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 14 January 2016 19:54 (eight years ago) link

it's not about reciprocation it's just all about ME

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 14 January 2016 19:55 (eight years ago) link

i recommend getting to the solo

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 14 January 2016 19:56 (eight years ago) link

The Sound is kinda amazing.

Greer, Thursday, 14 January 2016 20:08 (eight years ago) link

sounds a little generic coming off "ugh!" but it really builds

also it sounds thin as a radio rip but i bet the studio version will be better

J0rdan S., Thursday, 14 January 2016 23:27 (eight years ago) link

yeah it sounds like there's a lot of details that don't come through fully in this rip, but this is probably their best single yet. I love all the production on the new tracks so much, it's all much more detailed and polished than the debut.

managed to get a ticket to see them in two days, very excited

ufo, Friday, 15 January 2016 03:46 (eight years ago) link

still agog at the Walk The Moon tangent in this thread lol

some dude, Friday, 15 January 2016 03:50 (eight years ago) link

xp yeah i ended up electing not to go to this tour as when the tickets went on sale there was no new music and i did see them in jan '15. really regret that now!

art baengels (monotony), Friday, 15 January 2016 04:04 (eight years ago) link

I'm not mad about The Sound. But, seriously, wait till you hear The Ballad of Me and Brain, If I Believe You, Paris … Be interesting to see what you all make of She Lays Down, which is a one-take acoustic guitar ballad, that sounds not unlike Big Star. When I first heard it, Matthew was planning to gussy it up, add an extra verse, rerecord it, but everyone in the room – manager, producer, publicist, me – was saying JUST LEAVE IT! DON'T TOUCH IT! It's beautiful. Sorry for being an in-the-know wanker, but I've known these songs now for months and been unable to talk about them to anyone …

Roaming gang of aggressive circlepits (ithappens), Friday, 15 January 2016 09:03 (eight years ago) link

matt healy has this great ability to sum up my life in three minutes songs. i can't deal with it.

and the solo is just <3

Nourry, Friday, 15 January 2016 11:35 (eight years ago) link

the studio version is on spotify ... the way that this is kinda like hyperspeed house kinda reminds me of like a dj mustard beat

J0rdan S., Friday, 15 January 2016 16:18 (eight years ago) link

i love the lyrics so much

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2016 16:32 (eight years ago) link

i thought that you were straight, now i'm wonderin'

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2016 16:34 (eight years ago) link

The guitar solo is so "Digital Love", I love it.

Tim F, Friday, 15 January 2016 19:55 (eight years ago) link

yeah it all feels pretty daft punk, which is not the vibe i got from the live videos. imo it also sounds like "call me maybe"

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:09 (eight years ago) link

basically it was built for me to obsess over

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:09 (eight years ago) link

The guitar solo kept reminding me of a cross between the one from Digital Love and the guitar solo from Andrew Gold's Lonely Boy.

MarkoP, Friday, 15 January 2016 20:20 (eight years ago) link

really "the sound" is an 80s prom slow dance song in EDM festival form

j. winters (josh), Saturday, 16 January 2016 09:10 (eight years ago) link

idk to me it mostly sounds like passion pit with a recording budget

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Saturday, 16 January 2016 14:59 (eight years ago) link

sounds ready-made for a dozen official remixes

gr8080, Saturday, 16 January 2016 23:26 (eight years ago) link

SNL on feb. 6 with larry david :-p

J0rdan S., Sunday, 24 January 2016 22:21 (eight years ago) link

early reports from ppl who have heard the promo suggest it is "moody" "mellow" and "atmospheric"

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 27 January 2016 02:18 (eight years ago) link

sounds great

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 27 January 2016 02:18 (eight years ago) link

agreed

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 27 January 2016 02:29 (eight years ago) link

c'mon, dont't tease me more, I'm so anxious... there's no band nowadays that replicate the best the person that I am and my tastes. ugh

Nourry, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 03:00 (eight years ago) link

that's excellent news

seeing them live confirmed that The Sound is definitely their best song so far

ufo, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 03:29 (eight years ago) link

I'm so ready for the new album.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 27 January 2016 07:40 (eight years ago) link

I heard "Love Me" on the radio the other day and it sounded good on the radio.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 21:32 (eight years ago) link

I suspect it will be something of an anomaly on the album. In a lot of ways it 's a gesture-song.

Tim F, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 21:38 (eight years ago) link

The world needs our album

cpl593H, Thursday, 28 January 2016 18:15 (eight years ago) link

agreed

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 28 January 2016 18:26 (eight years ago) link

i don't know about the world, but i do need it.

omg the snl performance

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Sunday, 7 February 2016 09:03 (eight years ago) link

i died

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 7 February 2016 09:29 (eight years ago) link

I liked their performance but they were definite victims of SNL sound. Could barely even hear the singing at times

thom yorke state of mind (voodoo chili), Sunday, 7 February 2016 16:29 (eight years ago) link

im mad they didn't play "ugh"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 7 February 2016 18:37 (eight years ago) link

i didnt get to watch the whole show did they only do the one song?

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 7 February 2016 18:41 (eight years ago) link

they haven't been playing "ugh" live at all so i wasn't surprised. they played "the sound" and "love me"

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Sunday, 7 February 2016 18:50 (eight years ago) link

they said they haven't rehearsed Ugh enough yet but I expect they'll start playing it once the album comes out

ufo, Sunday, 7 February 2016 18:53 (eight years ago) link

also "love me" and "the sound" are way bigger hits so i wasn't exactly surprised

J0rdan S., Sunday, 7 February 2016 19:00 (eight years ago) link

Lead singer annoying on SNL, and whole thing sounded a little meh, but TV sound not reliable, and I'll check the alb because of this thread (thanks, I hope)

dow, Sunday, 7 February 2016 19:31 (eight years ago) link

The performance of 'the sound' is probably the best thing I've seen in my life.

Nourry, Sunday, 7 February 2016 20:26 (eight years ago) link

I think Matt could tone down on the mugging just a bit. I mean I know half of his lyrics are having a dig at himself but I think eventually it starts to undercut the emotional force of the songs. He should save it for key jokes. "You're so conceited! I said I loved you! What does it matter if I lied to you?" would be funnier if he delivered it like it wasn't funny.

Tim F, Sunday, 7 February 2016 20:41 (eight years ago) link

I was also disappointed at first that they didn't do "UGH!" but it's probably better that such a perfect song isn't sullied by SNL's awful sound
