I maintain that while IM40 wasn't a top-tier character in the wake of some of those who came after him, he was still very, very effective if you used Recharge to fuel his insanely-expensive powers and drained your other colors before firing Unibeam and Ballistic Salvo. But overall this looks better.
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 20:58 (eight years ago) link
it's waaaaay better, his red is now close to cyclops tier (close only b/c of the ap drain)
5-3-5 seems obv
rip blue but I only got it off maybe 10 times ever anyway
― droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:03 (eight years ago) link
my IM40 strategy was always a survival game; last long enough to fire Recharge, drain all your colors except blue/red while IM40 is stunned, Ballistic Salvo, murder unstunned enemies with Unibeam, kill the stunned enemy
rinse/repeat; it was very effective before insane burst damage became the name of the game
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:07 (eight years ago) link
Will, it's updating with the next patch.
xp As someone who actually used IM40 on a semi-regularly basis, his red was kind of worthless because I always used him with Cap and Cap's red is orders of magnitude better. His blue, though, I agree that it kind of sucks that it's losing the stun, which I'd use in the last wave of the 3* DDQ to minimize the number of turns the AI got -- and I used it in the last wave precisely because I needed that much time to gather that much blue. But as a tradeoff for the insane amount of AP you get now from Recharge, I'm totally ecstatic. Think about KK/Cap/IM40!
xxp I'm actually thinking I'll spec my IM40 to 3/5/5, because having that team-wide damage is more important than a red that I'll ignore (assuming of course that I'm running him with Cap).
― La Lechazunga (Leee), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:08 (eight years ago) link
I'm trying to remember what my team was; I think it was IM40/X-Force/Daken? I know I wasn't using Cap or FatCap because I didn't have either of them leveled.
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:10 (eight years ago) link
yeah but with cap won't cap's blue be more useful too?
at least the cost of IM40's blue is down to 16, but there's still an ap hit. can't see myself using it much, I dunno. but his red & yellow, yessssss
― droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:15 (eight years ago) link
Is there a widely-considered "best" blue power in the game? For 3* anyway? Could be interesting to roll IM40/Cap/whoever that is, and just ignore over half of the board. you're really banking on hitting those yellows, tho. R&G maybe, since he's also got that green?
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:19 (eight years ago) link
right now my favorite active blue powers are Beast and R&G
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:22 (eight years ago) link
R&G blue is amazing, no doubt.
I like Cap's b/c it returns + you get that protect tile.
I LOVE Doom's blue with xforce but my xforce is 272 so it feeds a massive surgical strike. but even on its own Doom's blue creates hilarious cascades.
― droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:23 (eight years ago) link
oh yeah I forgot about Doom's blue
cascade city + almost guaranteed Summon Demons (which for at least a turn or 2 will do silly damage, especially if you've got some strike tiles out)
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:25 (eight years ago) link
hmmm I am now pondering Doom/BP/Patch
maybe i should reboost doom's blue to 5, i have him at 5/3/5 now because i love DPlot so much... maybe try 3/5/5? i don't use summon demons that much despite how killer it is
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:26 (eight years ago) link
doom + falcon + IM40 ?
― droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:27 (eight years ago) link
yeah my doom's at 3-5-5 though post-championing not so crucial
― droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:28 (eight years ago) link
doom/BP/patch is something i have rolled & enjoyed many times fyi
xpost haha doom falcon im40 i will totally try
xxpost word
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:28 (eight years ago) link
so many characters use red for strike tiles that Summon Demons gets undervalued; stick him with Beast/BP/Sentry/R&G/Patch/Punisher/prob forgetting someone though...
actually Falcon/Doom/non-red strike tile generator could be hilarious
xp: lol everyone firmly on the "Falcon makes everything better" train
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:32 (eight years ago) link
Falcon's yellow power is one of the best powers in the game IMO, and his blue has saved my ass so many times
simply pairing him with someone who has a good use for yellow matches already has my mouth watering.
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:37 (eight years ago) link
also i wish that strike and attack tiles had better names, i can never remember which one is which. like they're named backwards! attack/defense should be sword/shield and strike should be the tile that, uhh, strikes on its own???
or just call them sword/shield/punch tiles because i'm 8 yrs old thx
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:40 (eight years ago) link
Ororo glares and dark clouds coalesce. Hailstones pelt the enemy, converting 16 basic tiles to Strength 10 PUNCH TILES.
yeah Falcon in unequivocally my favorite character, even over powerhouses because his main function is to turn anyone on your team who puts down attack or strike (or protect, which isn't as important in today's burst dmg game but still helpful) into a powerhouse
like the only issue I have with my default combo of Falcon/IF/Cage is that IF tanks purple, green and black and ends up taking way more dmg than I want him to, but that's offset by Falcon making his strike/attack combo leap into the 2K range while prepping Luke's Righteous Uppercut
but then I can stick him with, say Patch and Loki, and it's super lol "oh hey I'm now invulnerable and every match I make hits you for 3K plus ILLUSION"
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:42 (eight years ago) link
Absolutely -- it's just that I usually use(d) IM40 whenever I have a lot of goons, esp. Teisatsus, and/or survival nodes, and when I reach the last wave, I often like to use Ballistic Salvo as a finisher or near-finisher.
I have Doom at 3/5/5 (occasionally change him to something as needed) because someone on this board said that Imagine Dragons is basically made obsolete by Blade's OP punch tiles, and the awesomeness of black cascades (which can also feed Cage or Cyclops) is salivating.
And when you pair him with Patch, your own purple trap tiles can block BR's purple knife tiles from being placed.
Also much love to R&G blue. And don't sleep in CMags's idiotically painful blue.
― La Lechazunga (Leee), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 23:15 (eight years ago) link
Oh man, completely forgot cmags. IM40/Cap/Cmags would be a giant, hilarious fuck you to "balanced" rosters
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 23:17 (eight years ago) link
woo! last boost of 7 CP got me a black deadpool 4*, at 4-1-1 now, almost usable :) :) :)
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 23:44 (eight years ago) link
haha yeah forgot about cmags too, that's probably the best blue in the game, at least for 3 stars
― droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 10 February 2016 09:49 (eight years ago) link
Leveled my 4/2/3 Star-Lord to 100 and test drove him against Gamora -- yeah, died in like lol 6 turns, so I think I'll be skipping this one.

okay so I've championed:*** - Classic Mags, Punisher, Grey Suit Widow, Spiderman, LazyThor, Patch, Human Torch, Falcon** - OGBW, Mod Hawkeye, Mag NOW!, Thor, OG Bullseye, Classic Storm, Astonishing Wolvie, Ares, OG Daken
Championing Dr. Doom in anticipation of the next cover, then gonna level Power Man up to 166 and Iron Fist to 153 to champion them as soon as possible.
― ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 18:28 (eight years ago) link
I am currently leveling Daredevil so I can champion him before his cover expires (40 levels in 8 days... CAN HE DO IT? A: duh yes, esp with a 3-day weekend thrown in there) but I am seriously considering championing Moonstone next because I have gotten something like 6 covers for her that I've ended up selling because I never leveled her
― its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 18:48 (eight years ago) link
i look at the deadpool daily as yielding an average of 4k iso and even a half hour of additional play should come up with about 1k. So i figure 5k a day of play when i'm looking at championing. they really got my number with this play upgrade, it's back in serious daily rotation.pulled a mr. fantastic today so the only characters i'm missing, with five empty spaces to fill, are:vision, thing, x23, miles morales, nova, brock venom, spidey black, surfer and old man loganand i guess spider gwen now.
― ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 18:54 (eight years ago) link
i am also tempted to clean up my few remaining two stars to champion but that's long game stuff.
i champed 3 two-stars and that'll probably be all i champ. the 3* production line is neverending at this point, i am always juggling at least one race against the clock (current: loki and gsbw... and since then i have hit cover 13 on deadpool and someone else)
im hoping to hit a rate of about 10k a day, which is a little easier with the "never get 20 iso" patch. even with that rule i might not beat the clock with gsbw. :( i even waited until the end of the day yesterday to pick up her cover 14 from ddq just to buy myself precious hours.
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Friday, 12 February 2016 18:57 (eight years ago) link
I was leveling Luke Cage but I've gotten three Loki covers in the last two days somehow so I guess I ought to 166 and champion him.
― Kiarostami bag (milo z), Friday, 12 February 2016 18:57 (eight years ago) link
I did finish leveling BP yesterday and championed him; was gonna do Mohawk next but didn't have enough time given the amount I usually play
really desperate for that final cover for Blade (black) and Kamala (yellow); either would become an instant leveling priority (prob Blade first since he's currently parked at 140)
― its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:01 (eight years ago) link
idk if this strategy has been discussed before... but i recently changed my patch to level 5 green skill, which produces an obscene amount of friendly/enemy strike tiles. it's really scary UNLESS you pair him with doom... whose purple trap tiles make it so that the purple strike tiles cannot be placed. past two matches, i get my green ready, and then just wait until there are only 1-3 available purple tiles to turn into strikes... it works disgustingly well
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:24 (eight years ago) link
Wait, purple trap tiles don't get overwritten? Red ones do all the time, which is why I almost never use Daredevil's red because it never lasts long enough for the opposition to trigger.
― its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:32 (eight years ago) link
i'll do doom/patch/falcon and tend to build my fully leveled patch up to a green and red attack and doom up to a purple then wait for a match 4; by that time, I have a 60% down lead enemy. I'll take out the 2nd enemy with a green and red combination, kill the 3rd with doom's purple and then double back to take out the first enemy with the match 4. Works pretty well and the falcon is good to get rid of attack tiles while i'm charging.
― ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 19:33 (eight years ago) link
dooms purple doesn't seem to get overwritten, no.
― ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 19:34 (eight years ago) link
I used to use Loki/5 green Patch because you could do Berserker Fury -> Trickery and completely nullify any strike tile gain for the opponent for at least one turn, probably more; I eventually stopped using it because I would invariably turn the tiles that were part of easy matches and lose the advantage very quickly (plus 5 red is a godsend when things go south and you have a lone Patch that can just drop nukes on enemy characters)
xp: that... seems broken
― its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:36 (eight years ago) link
Will, I mentioned the Doom/Patch synergy here. The only caveat is that waiting for Diabolical Plots to populate slows down what's otherwise a fast power. xps
― La Lechazunga (Leee), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:41 (eight years ago) link
As for whether or not trap tiles get overwritten, if you have Doom on your team w/ Patch, when you cast BR, your friendly trap tiles will never be overwritten with the enemy strike tiles resulting from your BR. However, you will overwrite the enemy's trap tiles if you cast BR.
But yeah, I do recall my own DD's red trap getting overwritten by my Daken's strikes.

― its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:48 (eight years ago) link
I've tried it, have not found it super useful. loki's most useful element is the purpleboard shake which would co-op doom's purple and that's a high cost power anyway. I find patch (red/green) and doom (purple/blue/black) match better with a passive partner (falcon) or a yellow attack (thor or gamora)
― ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 20:31 (eight years ago) link
yeah it doesn't work that well imobtw i chuckled at Logan being in the Deadpool PVP Matchmaking art, standing away from Cyke/Phoenix. he's the only boosted char without a partner
― Nhex, Friday, 12 February 2016 20:58 (eight years ago) link
I tried doom/loki/patch. if his black didn't cost 11, it'd be amazing. doom's blue isn't consistently cascadey enough to make that 11 up. but when it all works out, you're invincible and kill everything very quickly.
― Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Friday, 12 February 2016 21:16 (eight years ago) link

Claremont toyed with brief glimpses of a throwaway fling between Logan and Ororo in the mid-80s, which made me chuckle that much more at Logan's aloneness given the Storm/Black Panther thing.

Am I missing a reason that there's not a 'live' head to head mode? Seems like it would be easy enough - either turn by turn ala Words W/ Friends or you both get locked into the game for a certain time window playing back and forth.
― Kiarostami bag (milo z), Friday, 12 February 2016 23:06 (eight years ago) link
The amount of data going back and forth -- you have to send your action to the server (which in turn sends it to your opponent), and then somehow synchronize the response (e.g. whatever drops, and then if you get a cascade...) between your device and your opponent's -- is what I've heard is expensive. And if you figure in the server issues they have when debuting new events, etc.
