I am currently leveling Daredevil so I can champion him before his cover expires (40 levels in 8 days... CAN HE DO IT? A: duh yes, esp with a 3-day weekend thrown in there) but I am seriously considering championing Moonstone next because I have gotten something like 6 covers for her that I've ended up selling because I never leveled her

its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 18:48 (eight years ago) link

i look at the deadpool daily as yielding an average of 4k iso and even a half hour of additional play should come up with about 1k. So i figure 5k a day of play when i'm looking at championing.
they really got my number with this play upgrade, it's back in serious daily rotation.
pulled a mr. fantastic today so the only characters i'm missing, with five empty spaces to fill, are:
vision, thing, x23, miles morales, nova, brock venom, spidey black, surfer and old man logan
and i guess spider gwen now.

ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 18:54 (eight years ago) link

i am also tempted to clean up my few remaining two stars to champion but that's long game stuff.

ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 18:54 (eight years ago) link

i champed 3 two-stars and that'll probably be all i champ. the 3* production line is neverending at this point, i am always juggling at least one race against the clock (current: loki and gsbw... and since then i have hit cover 13 on deadpool and someone else)

im hoping to hit a rate of about 10k a day, which is a little easier with the "never get 20 iso" patch. even with that rule i might not beat the clock with gsbw. :( i even waited until the end of the day yesterday to pick up her cover 14 from ddq just to buy myself precious hours.

I was leveling Luke Cage but I've gotten three Loki covers in the last two days somehow so I guess I ought to 166 and champion him.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Friday, 12 February 2016 18:57 (eight years ago) link

I did finish leveling BP yesterday and championed him; was gonna do Mohawk next but didn't have enough time given the amount I usually play

really desperate for that final cover for Blade (black) and Kamala (yellow); either would become an instant leveling priority (prob Blade first since he's currently parked at 140)

its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:01 (eight years ago) link

idk if this strategy has been discussed before... but i recently changed my patch to level 5 green skill, which produces an obscene amount of friendly/enemy strike tiles. it's really scary UNLESS you pair him with doom... whose purple trap tiles make it so that the purple strike tiles cannot be placed. past two matches, i get my green ready, and then just wait until there are only 1-3 available purple tiles to turn into strikes... it works disgustingly well

Worth Taking from Little Kid (Will M.), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:24 (eight years ago) link

Wait, purple trap tiles don't get overwritten? Red ones do all the time, which is why I almost never use Daredevil's red because it never lasts long enough for the opposition to trigger.

its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:32 (eight years ago) link

i'll do doom/patch/falcon and tend to build my fully leveled patch up to a green and red attack and doom up to a purple then wait for a match 4; by that time, I have a 60% down lead enemy. I'll take out the 2nd enemy with a green and red combination, kill the 3rd with doom's purple and then double back to take out the first enemy with the match 4. Works pretty well and the falcon is good to get rid of attack tiles while i'm charging.

ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 19:33 (eight years ago) link

dooms purple doesn't seem to get overwritten, no.

ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 19:34 (eight years ago) link

I used to use Loki/5 green Patch because you could do Berserker Fury -> Trickery and completely nullify any strike tile gain for the opponent for at least one turn, probably more; I eventually stopped using it because I would invariably turn the tiles that were part of easy matches and lose the advantage very quickly (plus 5 red is a godsend when things go south and you have a lone Patch that can just drop nukes on enemy characters)

xp: that... seems broken

its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:36 (eight years ago) link

Will, I mentioned the Doom/Patch synergy here. The only caveat is that waiting for Diabolical Plots to populate slows down what's otherwise a fast power. xps

La Lechazunga (Leee), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:41 (eight years ago) link

As for whether or not trap tiles get overwritten, if you have Doom on your team w/ Patch, when you cast BR, your friendly trap tiles will never be overwritten with the enemy strike tiles resulting from your BR. However, you will overwrite the enemy's trap tiles if you cast BR.

But yeah, I do recall my own DD's red trap getting overwritten by my Daken's strikes.

Loki/Patch 4 life

Nhex, Friday, 12 February 2016 19:46 (eight years ago) link

I am so gonna try Doom/Loki/Patch

its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 12 February 2016 19:48 (eight years ago) link

I've tried it, have not found it super useful. loki's most useful element is the purpleboard shake which would co-op doom's purple and that's a high cost power anyway. I find patch (red/green) and doom (purple/blue/black) match better with a passive partner (falcon) or a yellow attack (thor or gamora)

ulysses, Friday, 12 February 2016 20:31 (eight years ago) link

yeah it doesn't work that well imo
btw i chuckled at Logan being in the Deadpool PVP Matchmaking art, standing away from Cyke/Phoenix. he's the only boosted char without a partner

Nhex, Friday, 12 February 2016 20:58 (eight years ago) link

I tried doom/loki/patch. if his black didn't cost 11, it'd be amazing. doom's blue isn't consistently cascadey enough to make that 11 up. but when it all works out, you're invincible and kill everything very quickly.

Claremont toyed with brief glimpses of a throwaway fling between Logan and Ororo in the mid-80s, which made me chuckle that much more at Logan's aloneness given the Storm/Black Panther thing.

Am I missing a reason that there's not a 'live' head to head mode? Seems like it would be easy enough - either turn by turn ala Words W/ Friends or you both get locked into the game for a certain time window playing back and forth.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Friday, 12 February 2016 23:06 (eight years ago) link

The amount of data going back and forth -- you have to send your action to the server (which in turn sends it to your opponent), and then somehow synchronize the response (e.g. whatever drops, and then if you get a cascade...) between your device and your opponent's -- is what I've heard is expensive. And if you figure in the server issues they have when debuting new events, etc.

Hahaha for lolz try Cyclops/Doom/IF.

La Lechazunga (Leee), Saturday, 13 February 2016 04:24 (eight years ago) link

My favorite IF team is IF/Luke Cage/Scarlet Witch. Easy purple AP converted into a board of black tiles converted into damage and stun.

Nice!

My dumb Starlord is at 4-2-3,, l152 and yet I've lost like 10 times so far. What's your strategy?

droit au butt (Euler), Saturday, 13 February 2016 05:53 (eight years ago) link

Damage boosts and a lot of luck, I'm guessing. I've gotten her down to 2000 before I die. Purple is the only power I have that does significant damage.

remove butt (abanana), Saturday, 13 February 2016 07:03 (eight years ago) link

All the 4* DDQs are heavily luck-dependent, but this one is probably the most; the most you can do is to be very disciplined about denying the opponent's colors. Red and black are the most important in this case -- 10 APs worth of Razor's Edge is probably 6K damage, and her black will fill every yellow on the board with strikes -- though green gives her a couple free turns and 2K damage. (Amazingly enough I survived her black just because I was able to clear all the strikes in a couple turns -- two of them were in a match-3, another I cleared by overwriting it with a purple, and the last I killed with a handy match-4.)

Like you really have to internalize that if there's a choice between a match for one of your colors vs. one of the AI's, ALWAYS go for the AI's (unless yours sets up a match 5). It's tempting to go for one of your colors of course, and if I see a multi-match/mini-cascade, I don't know that I'd be able to resist it -- it's a fine line between prolonging the match, the damage you could potentially do, and the damage you'd potentially take.

While you're denying, make use of your red in a timely way -- they apparently stack on top of each other to make the cost of the AI's powers go up (i.e. two CD tiles will increase her costs by two), plus the damage they deliver when they resolve. So wait till she's getting close to firing one of her abilities, then cast red -- it might not delay her but it'll tax her AP stockpile a little, and you'll need every advantage you can get.

If you get enough yellow, use it when you're close or have enough to fire off your red to save some AP.

Pray pray pray that you can get enough purple to kill her before she kills you.

And yes, boosts. I tried to be cute and win this w/o the 150% all-color match damage and +3 colors (the retired ones!), but I only started getting close to victory once I used the Good Boosts.

Nhex, Saturday, 13 February 2016 23:05 (eight years ago) link

Ultron goons and friends added to the Big Enchilada.

La Lechazunga (Leee), Saturday, 13 February 2016 23:47 (eight years ago) link

they upped the "challenge" on every node but i also think they may have skewed the drop to be player friendly? the attacks are certainly lower damage for some of the nodes. still able to cruise through all of them with the same strategy.

Nhex, Monday, 15 February 2016 07:59 (eight years ago) link

From my observation on the DDP changes, 1* is harder (2 AI chars + 1 minion instead of 2 minion + 1 AI), first 2* stage is easier (two waves of 1 AI + 2 minion) and The Big Enchilada is much easier (the waves with 3 chars were downgraded to 1 char + 2 minion). Final 2* stage didn't seem to change.

Nhex, Monday, 15 February 2016 09:17 (eight years ago) link

plus 3 star in the 1* no?

droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 15 February 2016 09:49 (eight years ago) link

also my phoenix is 1-2-1 and I've been pumping levels into her because she was hilariously fun buffed in the pvp matchmaking tourney. in particular her green is a resurrection but after she resurrects it turns into a phoenix power, for 9 green, that, at my lame level (~270 -> ~360 buffed) does 8000 to the enemy *team* (and 2000 damage to my team). the first time it trigged I had enough green to set it off twice and it turned what had been a cascade shitshow against me into a resounding victory.

Nhex, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 10:13 (eight years ago) link

Old Man Logan with Daken is a fun team. Daken's cheap blue destroys strike tiles for damage and then OML's passive puts down more. third character: DEVIL DINOSAUR, useful at last, for cheap purple and green powers.

I finally got the Professor's final yellow, meaning he finally creates strike tiles as well. I should try OML and PX together.

remove butt (abanana), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 10:27 (eight years ago) link

think maybe I'm gonna max level my 5 stars next. even a fairly low covered 5 star does so much tile damage alone that they can work in "advanced" pvp. my OML only has one cover, he's obviously the one with the most low cover potential for pvp, but SS and Phoenix shine too. against buffed maxed Scarlet Witches resistance to stun is huge.

droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 10:31 (eight years ago) link

Random stun might be avoiding stun-resistant characters now. I tried using SW's stun against a team with Ultron Prime and it gave a "resist" message and stunned another character at the same time.

remove butt (abanana), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 10:43 (eight years ago) link

oh, no doubt, but at least the stun resistant character won't get stunned, which means you can keep up the high tile damage, & even tank colors you wouldn't otherwise, while continuing to heal.
