tell me what yall think of this— i think first episode next season they should hand it over to the apatow/jody hill conglomerate. no host, but every skit is rudd, rogen, cera, hill, MCBRIDE, carrell, ferrell, segel etc etc. it would be funnier than every episode of the last 3 years combined

J0rdan S., Sunday, 12 April 2009 05:39 (fifteen years ago) link

bill hader can stay on for that episode

i think they need to fire this cast and writers and have a guest cast for every show - the office cast one week, 30 rock cast the next week, bring back the arrested development cast around the time the movie comes on, curb your enthusiasm ppl when the show starts up again

real talk no challops the college humor show on mtv is a funnier sketch comedy show than snl atm

J0rdan S., Sunday, 12 April 2009 05:42 (fifteen years ago) link

a combined human giant/lonely island episode would be fire imo

J0rdan S., Sunday, 12 April 2009 05:43 (fifteen years ago) link

give an episode to 77 - ethan is a veteran sketch comedy writer, all you gotta do is replace puppets w/ humans

J0rdan S., Sunday, 12 April 2009 05:46 (fifteen years ago) link

THIS IS THE WORST SNL FANFIC I'VE EVER READ IN MY LIFE NO STAMP OF APPROVAL

A B C, Sunday, 12 April 2009 05:58 (fifteen years ago) link

i like the whole cast except for casey wilson but the writers must be like i don't even know. so bad. then again a lonely island/human giant ep sounds like a waking nightmare to me

A B C, Sunday, 12 April 2009 06:00 (fifteen years ago) link

kristen wiig's kathie lee makes me lmbo way too much and i basically dont even remember what kathie lee gifford acts like

I actually like a majority of the current cast (except Bobby Moynihan and Seth Meyers), and really don't blame them for the lion's share of what's wrong with the show in its current state. It's Lorne Michaels' inability to hire worthwhile writers, because he has no idea anymore about what's actually funny. I have to imagine he's almost completely hands-off with regard to 30 Rock, because the level of funny on that show just seems way over his head.

I caught myself thinking during one of the commercial breaks tonight "I wonder when the final episode will be. Five years from now? Ten years from now? Will Lorne ever leave (again) and turn it over to someone else (again)?"

Gillie (sp? eh..) sketch was really bleak

bear, bear, bear, Sunday, 12 April 2009 06:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I've warmed to some of Wiig's characters that I initially hated, but I can't ever see that happening with Gillie/Gilly/whatever.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 12 April 2009 06:40 (fifteen years ago) link

That Jon Bovi sketch is like something an eighth grader comes up with on the back on the school bus.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 13 April 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

don't know why, but i like gillie.

mizzell, Monday, 13 April 2009 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

I picture a late-night writers' meeting where in one room you've got Sudekis cracking himself up with lines like "I'm an Indian on a silk-pony I don't ride" while in the next room, a circle of interns piss their pants as Kristen Wiig wears an afro wig and goes "What? What?"

Didn't see this week's Gilly sketch, but the one with Beyonce was fucking hysterical.

wow this is retarded

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 13 April 2009 16:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Jon Bovi is seriously the hackiest premise. It's like something you do to amuse yourself when no one else is around. Watching those two guys totally go for broke on that sketch makes me a little sad.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 13 April 2009 16:33 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost, yeah that is about the stupidest fucking thing I've ever read.

kristen wiig's kathie lee makes me lmbo way too much and i basically dont even remember what kathie lee gifford acts like

this is otm. zac effron even just attempting the same facial tic/reaction jokes was awful b/c of how amazing wiig is at it

johnny crunch, Monday, 13 April 2009 16:34 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost An even better idea would be giving all those casts their OWN TV shows where they can develop audiences and hone skills!

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 13 April 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Not to mention that 2 our of 4 of the shows Jordan mentions are actually making episodes, and only 1 out of those 2 is funny.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 13 April 2009 16:36 (fifteen years ago) link

all of those shows are funny u crazee

Mr. Que, Monday, 13 April 2009 16:37 (fifteen years ago) link

I support J0rdan's idea but only if it uses the casts of ER and Law & Order.

maybe u should tell that to your laughing vagina (HI DERE), Monday, 13 April 2009 16:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Normally I fuck with J0rdan, but wtf is he talking about here? Dumbest idea ever.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 13 April 2009 16:48 (fifteen years ago) link

not to mention the fact that it wasn't like Rogen or Rudd or Carell were hot shit on the show when they hosted in the past anyway xpost

i love the current cast but i hope they don't bring abby elliott back next season. michaela watkins fits right in though.

a) chris elliott's daughter, and
b) 22 yrs old!

still, co-sign w/get bent

Is Darrell Hammond in like one sketch an episode?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 13 April 2009 17:45 (fifteen years ago) link

this show is unwatchable, and duh i know my idea wouldn't work outside of giving it up for one night to the apatow/jody hill etc brigade

the cast isn't really all that funny either. it used to be that the funniest people in america were on snl-- this was true even up into the ferrell/fey era-- and now we have... kristen wiig and will forte?

the sultan of ban (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 April 2009 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link

I love Abby Elliott, but more for the ws factor that her funny skills.

kristen wiig is pretty funny, guys

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 13 April 2009 17:55 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean, I'd start a "least funny SNL personality" poll if it wasn't obvious that Abby Elliott would take it in a sweep.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 13 April 2009 17:56 (fifteen years ago) link

She (Elliott) does the walk out Angelina Jolie performances on Weekend Update, right? It's hard to tell who that actually is. If so, she can hang around just for those.

you are way too young for the revisionist nostalgia to be kicking in already

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 13 April 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link

though to be fair snl is probably funniest when you're like 14 and loopy from staying up until midnight

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 13 April 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Whiney you could do a poll of the current cast w/o the featured players (Elliott, Moynihan, Watkins and Wilson)

brewer and what (some dude), Monday, 13 April 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Wiig is so hit and miss, which makes her more frustrating. Gilly is horrible tho.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 13 April 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago) link

hader, forte and armisen are good. wiig is a one-trick pony but can be funny at her best

europeen handball (k3vin k.), Monday, 13 April 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago) link

And I like Moynihan, whats up with the hate on him? His waiter guy is classic.

display names have been changed to protect the innocent (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 13 April 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago) link

I DVR the show and have for years out of sheer habit. Usually just to watch the musical guest (and the YYYs SUCKED with the drum machine. Wow, has a guitar player ever been so publicly marginalized??) and the opening couple of skits.

The ubiquitous political opener hasn't been funny in years. Even with a retarded target like Bush.

The underage skit was pretty funny. I liked the Gilly skit but it's very easy to see that Lorne will beat that one into the ground, long after it's funny.

The Jon Bovi thing is kind of an absurd premise that could be really good, but the execution was miserable. The gay dudes from New Jersey was pretty spot on--they didn't linger and it was just brief enough.

Wiig is funny but I don't think she's as versatile as Lorne wishes. I don't think she's charming enough to carry the show like Ferrell or even Oteri.

The Contemptible (Dandy Don Weiner), Monday, 13 April 2009 17:59 (fifteen years ago) link

all of the main cast members have had their moments imo -- Armisen is probably the one I'm most sick of lately but even he can be pretty good

i don't hate Moynihan but his worst is pretty hacky, and i don't love the waiter guy as much as a lot of people do...he has potential though
