Also Beast's healing won me a match that went terribly so I'm not mad at it

I need to start bumping LazyCap and IM, two of my lowest 3*.

My go-to Big Enchilada is KK/Thor/Doc Ock.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 22 February 2016 01:50 (eight years ago) link

im40 and lazy cap just feel like cheating across the board atm

Looks like this will be the second DDQ4 that I won't be able to beat this cycle, since my Kingpin is only 2/0/2.

La Lechazunga (Leee), Monday, 22 February 2016 19:15 (eight years ago) link

I did it with 2/2/2. got a falcap :(

Which ***'s would you say make for an ideal pair with Thor or Falcon (both of which I have championed already)? I was thinking about leveling Doom or Daken to go with Thor ... not sure who to pair with Falcon since I don't have a *** with green-blue-black that's ready to level.

I have all the covers I need to level any of the toons below. I'm hesitant to level anyone with yellow since I have three championed yellows, and definitely need black since Hood is my only leveled black. I'm focused on the ones with black without yellow (Blade, Loki, Daken, Doom, Hulk), but some of the best available options (Cyclops, Cage, Black Panther) are precisely that. Am I overthinking this? Should I just level the best available toons?

Cyclops (Uncanny X-Men)
Luke Cage (Hero For Hire)
Magneto (Classic)
Blade (Daywalker)
Steve Rogers (Super Soldier)
Black Panther (T'Challa)
Loki (Dark Reign)
Wolverine (Patch)
Daken (Classic)
Doctor Doom (Classic)
The Hulk (Indestructible)
Human Torch (Classic)
She-Hulk (Modern)

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:42 (eight years ago) link

I say cyclops bc his red and black are where it's at and his yellow is useful support but 5-3-5 is what you normally want. And he's top tier.

droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:04 (eight years ago) link

Cmags also fits that w blue for black: you'll never use his yellow

droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:05 (eight years ago) link

IMO you are overthinking, because Cyclops is probably the best damage-dealing 3* in the game, and Cage is incredibly useful. Blade is also great to have at a high level (just 176'ed mine today, he's my highest 3*).

Having rainbow-coverage is nice and more versatile (in case you get a bad board), but at the same time that it might slow you down because you're chasing a bunch of different colors instead of focusing on getting one or two specific powers off.

As for a good third behind Thor and Falcon, I'd suggest Daken. He'll tank purple for Falcon (though unfortunately Daken won't tank blue), and because you'll be going after green and yellow matches, you'll be getting a lot of strengthened strike tiles that'll make your Call the Storm that much more obscene.

La Lechazunga (Leee), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:24 (eight years ago) link

Well, I'm not chasing colors per se ... I usually am thinking more about denial than I am about my team. It's such a drag to have a color unaccounted for, especially with a bad board.

I mean, ultimately I'm going to level all of them, so it isn't that big of a deal. But I love playing GSBW and Hood together in PVP and that got me thinking about pairs.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:34 (eight years ago) link

Here are my current pairs, some of which are color complements and some of which are just characters that work well together:

IF/Luke Cage (implied Falcon as 3rd)
Loki/CMags (implied Patch as 3rd)
SWitch/GSBW
IM40/FatCap

I am considering trying SHulk/Hood; I also wish that DevilDino/KK worked better together but maybe I need to level them both

its subtle brume (DJP), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:42 (eight years ago) link

Denial tends to be important in matches that last a long time -- if you can kill the enemy quickly, then your problem is solved. Also a good idea to have multiple teams you can use to fit the situation -- better a master of one trade than a jack of all/master of none.

My pairs/trios:

ModHawk works well with MagNow and SWitch and GSBW and KK. The two DDQ nodes that lock out 3*s, my team is almost always MagNow/Storm/ModHawk.

IF/Cage/CMags is a good trio, since Mags will cover the two missing active colors between IF/Cage.

Cyclops/Panther + a good black generator like IF and/or Doom

Deadpool/Gamora + a strike tile spammer (though in practice I've yet to get this setup working)

I'll still rep Daken/Blade/Falcon -- doesn't take long before you start doing 4-digit damage.

La Lechazunga (Leee), Monday, 22 February 2016 22:02 (eight years ago) link

Falcon + anyone who makes strike tiles = good times

its subtle brume (DJP), Monday, 22 February 2016 22:04 (eight years ago) link

for deadpool daily, i have never not been able to cruise by with:
* - storm, spidey, juggernaut
** - two star storm, ares, MagNOW!
*** - cover du jour, classic mags, doc doom
cover node - lazy thor, lazy daken, OGBWidow

ulysses, Monday, 22 February 2016 22:12 (eight years ago) link

I use:

* - Storm, Jugs, IM35
** - ModHawk, MagNow, Ares/CStorm/OBW (depending on last node lockouts)
***/cover - (required char)/Falcon, IF, Luke Cage

who do you guys like to use against the ultron enemies? they completely shredded me in dpd the other day

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 22 February 2016 22:19 (eight years ago) link

Sometimes I switch to CMags/Loki because at some point you will cascade yourself into an infinite turn where you can murder the opposing team without relinquishing control. I intended to explore using Daredevil but... forgot

its subtle brume (DJP), Monday, 22 February 2016 22:22 (eight years ago) link

kill ultron goons in the order fighter -> gunner -> flyer. i just use 5* logan/if/cage for everything now. im40/steve/hood should work.

i can't even imagine how money D3 makes off this game. we're not anywhere near the top alliances, but people in our group are throwing down $20 every week on this game, and the whale is throwing down (multiple!) $100 purchases jut as often

oh god stevie, not you too

ulysses, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 18:54 (eight years ago) link

I haven't spent a dime on it. Like ... I would like to support them but none of the things you can buy seem worth it to me.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 19:10 (eight years ago) link

I'm happy with the $20 I spent...two years ago? that and selling my 166d Sentry let me 270 my xforce, which has made things more fun in the meantime. I don't see myself spending more on the game, although if it lasts until 2017, maybe one more time to support the developers.

I'm a little grumpy because I pulled another useless invisible woman on a legendary today, making it the third IW draw in a row with legendaries. I complained about this after the 2nd in a row and the support staff, um, listened to me, as a paying customer, and I can't complain about their...old...generous...man...reply...logan. still, I didn't want a THIRD IW after that.

the advice on characters is a little antiquated at this point but the general concepts are good

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 21:10 (eight years ago) link

the core game mechanic is "match gems to damage the front character on the other team; first team to lose all of its characters loses the match"

as time goes on, you can build up a large roster of different characters, each with different health pools and different special abilities

the gems you match go into reserve pools based on their colors; as you collect more of them, different special abilities for your characters become active that can damage the other team, augment your teams offensive or defensive capabilities, heal your team from damage taken during the game, reconfigure the board, hide one of your characters from damage, or any combination of the previous

the game is about doing well enough to build up a roster of characters that you can level RPG-style and add powers to by collecting comic book covers based on how well/frequently you play

there's more but it's really just about playing through the prelude nodes to get some initial characters and a feel for how the game works before some of the wackier characters with weird powers are thrown at you

xp: or you could read poly's links

its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 21:11 (eight years ago) link

first, play through as much of the story stuff as you can. Each of the story events has multiple prizes that you can get for replaying them. However, I'd suggest not bothering with that. I wasted a lot of time doing that but all you get out of it is one-star cards and a little bit of ISO currency. You can always go back to them later if you're missing a particular cover. The good rewards are in the public events.

make sure to join an alliance to get some free stuff from your fellow players.

make sure to join each event. even if you don't win any matches, you get a little something for playing.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 21:17 (eight years ago) link

so much of this game is about just playing a little every day; in an alliance, that gives you extra ISO you can use to level your characters and just on your own, it gives you a stream of daily awards of ISO, hero points, cover tokens and actual covers to expand your roster and make your team stronger

its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 21:20 (eight years ago) link

Welcome Stevie, you will come to regret playing this game.

166'ed Bullseye this morning, should have enough ISO to champion him by EOD.

La Lechazunga (Leee), Thursday, 25 February 2016 20:32 (eight years ago) link

Championed him, Legendary was a purple 4* Jean (yippee!). Also made the progression for the Hulk PVE, pulled a red Ghost Rider. My lol.xls indicates that I am now 2/32+ in pulling 5* covers.

I also accidentally sold a 2* Storm cover today -- she's sitting at 126 (i.e. her next champion level results in a 3* cover). :(

La Lechazunga (Leee), Friday, 26 February 2016 01:58 (eight years ago) link

Great thing about the IM40 buff is that I've been running KK now at 5/3/5 with LCap -- you had 5 purple before to power her green, but since IM40 is supplying that, why not get extra healing from your power spam now too?
