All those women are shorter than Patrick, and two of them are even wearing heels!

ridiculous

no, DM, I haven't heard WO's TR but I think I did hear about it, though

I will try to download it ASAP

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 10:28 (eighteen years ago) link

The WO cover isn't bad at all. He makes the melody much more downbeat and Tortoise add some dubious but dramatic synth. Doesn't have the power of the Boss's version, but it's an interesting take, closer to the the version on the live box set as opposed to the studio original.

Bold & the Brave is a great covers album. The version of Elton John's Daniel steals the show. No shit!

Happy new year to Glasgow ILXORS! Anyone going to Herman Dune on Thurs?

Top Ten Tourist Destination, apparently. Glasgow, I mean.

Personally, I think this is madness.

How do you know till you've tried it?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 18:04 (eighteen years ago) link

I bought the Strokes' "Is This Is" in the Fopp in Dundee. I was not aware it was the first, merely my first.

Gukbe (lokar), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 18:55 (eighteen years ago) link

hm; can't find any information from www.google.com

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 18:56 (eighteen years ago) link

How is Glasgow Dundee, or vice versa? I don't understand (like much of this thread). Why is no-one talking about going to the pub?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 19:15 (eighteen years ago) link

I assumed stevem had mis-spelled FAP.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 19:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Glasgow was the first, I think. The Atlantic soul triple thingy I bought when Steve and Lixi were here is a corker.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 20:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Yes, Glasgow was the first - formerly A1 Records if I remember rightly - I went in its formative year when I was still a schoolchild, at a Glasgow University "open day" (i.e. thinly veiled excuse for record-shop-devoid schoolkid to get to the big city and spend LOTS OF MONEY). Gukbe invoked Dundee, and I wondered why?

Why aren't YOU talking about going to the pub?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 12 January 2006 14:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Hello.

Belated Happy New Year to everyone. Stew and I bumped into each other yesterday as we now work in the same place. We discussed fappery. I'm working late next week so will have to skip the B&S related action but if any other plans are being made then let me know as it would be lovely to see you all.

hmmm (hmmm), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:17 (eighteen years ago) link

B&S are doing an in-store thing at 5 o'clock in Virgin round the corner from my work on Tuesday. There seems little point in me going home then coming back in for the gig, so some Sauchiehall Street/Bath Street fappage action would be good. I mean, I'll go to the pub on my own, but surely other people are going? Or want to go to the pub?

Proper fappage should maybe wait until the end of the month - I can't be the only one with too much January at the end of my pay packet.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I've got January in my overdraft, credit cards, and I've tapped about a fortnight from my mates. I'm robbing February now. But I'll be out for B&S. (Madchen paid, hura)

stet (stet), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Good. Pick a pub :)

(I am tapping from Neil and he doesn't even have a job, but that's because I've paid everything so far this month because I do have a job, but hugely underestimated the sheer volume of alcohol and resultant taxi fares that would be incurred over Christmas and also forgot that I got paid a fortnight early in December so lots of spending + extra two weeks to make money last = pov-stricken ailsa)

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Is there a Winchester Club tonight? I lose track of these things.

Mädchen (Madchen), Saturday, 14 January 2006 19:30 (eighteen years ago) link

It was last week. No one went. Blame was apportioned.

Oi, Mädchen, what are you and stet doing on Tuesday, post-work, pre-B&S? Food/drink?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 14 January 2006 21:07 (eighteen years ago) link

Coming home to get out of my manky work clothes, most likely. I should be out again around 6.30pm though, if you fancy getting some pre-theatre. Stet?

Mädchen (Madchen), Saturday, 14 January 2006 21:18 (eighteen years ago) link

yay! I shall be going to in-store thing at Virgin, but pre-theatre food thereafter sounds good, and cheap. Huzzah!

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 16 January 2006 09:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Protesters are expected to target ex-US secretary of state Colin Powell when he visits Glasgow to speak at a dinner.
He will address an event organised by the Jewish National Fund (JNF) at the Hilton Hotel on Monday evening.

The organisation said it was delighted to have secured Mr Powell's attendance at the fund-raising dinner.

However, pro-Palestinian activists plan to stage a protest while human rights campaigners want to raise the issue of CIA rendition flights with Mr Powell.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 16 January 2006 10:57 (eighteen years ago) link

So, is Winchester Club still any good? I´ve been mildly harassed onto attending 11th February, but as it has already been pointed out, geocities site is not that useful to check schedules or anything :-(

olenska (olenska), Monday, 16 January 2006 11:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Cafe Hula is nice, yes, though the staff are a bit off-hand sometimes and they have a stupid menu board system.

The Winchester Club? It depends. Let's say yes.
