Also imago the issue wasn't whiney thinking the album was overrated, it was the public shaming method he used to make this point.
― Treeship, Thursday, 7 April 2016 15:44 (eight years ago) link
Yeah I just figured whiney was clowning the discrepancy between a little under the radar ambient synth record and the life-changing hyperbole surrounding it, but again I can't speak for his thread making intentions.

raptures I am often guilty of myself and am open to being called out on
This was the most amusing aspect of the thread, the fact it was inspired (apparently) by LJ's reaction to someone's over-the-top praise for some album or other.
― Terry Micawber (Tom D.), Thursday, 7 April 2016 15:49 (eight years ago) link
Whiney probably wouldn't mind a thread like "let's poll the only women in his top 75 of last year", but the mistake is thinking that b/c he personally likes clowning/bantz, everyone else would be up for their posts being held up and mocked.

I knew it would immediately devolve into an argument about whether I liked "enough" women, but I engaged anyway...

Whatever, I'm done definding my thread and definitely taking my L as a lesson in the tone and vibe of nu-ILX and will try to better assimilate because I do like this place and def am not out to hurt anyone in the way Branwell felt hurt

i thought it was funny, although in a *rmde* 'oh, whiney' kinda way. it's true that 07 era ilx is long gone but i also don't want an ilx where every thread that offends Branwall gets shut down, either

I used to live a ways down the street from this huge apartment tower in Rockville, MD. One night, parties unknown stabbed a scene duck through the neck with a kitchen knife and left it (duck+knife) floating in the building's decorative cement pond. The next day, the whole neighborhood was talking about it. I could only think, "somebody's way too into The Residents."

The Defamation of Strickland Banks is the second studio album from English singer and rapper Plan B. It was released on 12 April 2010 by 679 Recordings. The album is a departure from the sound heard on Plan B's debut album Who Needs Actions When You Got Words, providing a showcase for the rapper's singing.[1] Lyrically the album's songs tell the fictitious tale of one Strickland Banks, a sharp-suited British soul singer who finds fame with bitter-sweet love songs like the album's opener "Love Goes Down", only to have it slip through his fingers when sent to prison for a crime he did not commit.[2]

It was just a stupid pun. Not intended to attack or criticise anything or anyone. It didn't have anything to do with any opinion I may or may not have about this. I see it offended enough of you to get it modded away, but (nevermind, this isn't worth it. I'm going to the "second thought about" thread. Some jokes don't work for everyone, I'll leave it at that.)
