Think a track off that was on the end of that Kenneth Bager mix just above.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 21 April 2016 08:58 (eight years ago) link

really digging this mix. i think it's the best thing poolside has made so far: https://soundcloud.com/poolside/contact-high-mixtape

anyone see harvey in london last night? thought he started off p great and maybe slightly deteriorated along the way. was a good night overall tho.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Sunday, 24 April 2016 11:03 (eight years ago) link

seen harvey playing this the last few times, managed to finally id it:

what an epic.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 28 April 2016 15:13 (eight years ago) link

no mention of the Bullion album yet, surely a mistake. Recommended for the CFCF fans.

boxedjoy, Thursday, 28 April 2016 21:37 (eight years ago) link

tbf there's only about two posts a week itt

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 28 April 2016 21:37 (eight years ago) link

the fact i just responded to you is as close as it gets to the switchboards lighting up

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 28 April 2016 21:38 (eight years ago) link

I would read a thread that was just exclusively "this week LG downloaded this to tap his fingers along to at his desk"

boxedjoy, Thursday, 28 April 2016 21:57 (eight years ago) link

lol for now 3/4 mixes a week itt is enough for me, the idea of a whole thread feels like a lot of pressure.

speaking of which, can anyone id the track at 20 mins 20 seconds in this? https://soundcloud.com/orpheudejong/on-rlr-rush-hour-weekender-broadcast

sounds a bit like george duke but i'm guessing not him.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 28 April 2016 22:20 (eight years ago) link

The other night my wife asked me if I was a pj harvey fan and I went on talking for about 30 seconds about DJ Harvey while she looked at me confused

Is Jack Nicholson really qualify as "Partyman"? (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 28 April 2016 22:28 (eight years ago) link

Track in the Orpheu mix is Japanese for sure, but don't know who for certain. Logic System? Shigeru Suzuki?

CFCF, Wilson Tanner, Bullion all fantastic

Deverly (Bangelo), Thursday, 28 April 2016 23:06 (eight years ago) link

second ep of young marco's podcast. i prefer this one tbh - didn't get into the last one. love the track around 14 minutes with the rainfall.

Robert Rich "Drumsong" from Rainforest

doug watson, Friday, 13 May 2016 22:12 (seven years ago) link

Ha, I just saw that it's also identified in the comments

doug watson, Friday, 13 May 2016 22:13 (seven years ago) link

wrong id?

i mean the track at 30.50 - really dark ambient with the sample from major briggs in twin peaks...

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Saturday, 14 May 2016 00:58 (seven years ago) link

Sorry, misread your original post. Dunno the 30:50 track either. Fantastic mix though.

doug watson, Saturday, 14 May 2016 18:22 (seven years ago) link

yeah it is awesome. love that renewable energy track.

i've been listening to all the tommy awards EPs lately, hadn't heard them in years. sooo good. i wonder what happened to those guys. maybe the balearic scene got too intense for em

lovin this Tommy Awards... perfect ambient balearic

de l'asshole (flopson), Tuesday, 17 May 2016 15:34 (seven years ago) link

These "Very Polish Cut-Out" edits that were posted upthread are so good...and there is a lot there. The Ptaki ones are particularly great (the Ptaki album Przelot, not associated with the Very Polish Cut-Outs, was one of my favorites from last year...and very relevant to this thread) but the Old Spice, Eddie C and Karol Aleksander edits are all pretty excellent too.

Deszczem on the Ptaki album does really sound like prime DJ Shadow after a Baltic digging trip. If it's Balearic it's Balearic for overcast skies.

Noel Emits, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 09:28 (seven years ago) link

hello all this is a great mix: https://soundcloud.com/rcheoecordings/manu-archeo-sweet-autumn-lullaby-guest-mix-balearic-social-15112015

does anyone know the tune at 11 mins?

i think i probably need to know though i don't know what i'll do with the information when i get it. that said i did actually buy some vinyl for the first time in a long time recently, mostly stuff from mixes itt.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 18 May 2016 13:53 (seven years ago) link

It's not that obscure. I've definitely got it but can't remember what it it is. Thinking something along the lines of Land of Light, Gaussian Curve, Nado etc.

Sure someone here will know it.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 19:06 (seven years ago) link

He just ID'ed it as this. On Aficionado.

https://www.discogs.com/Stratus-Axis-EP/release/7326478

I haven't really been following this music in a DJ/obsessive way so much, a little more lately, I find just looking at a record store's site means I recognise many tunes from all the mixes by people I've been following on Soundcloud.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 19 May 2016 11:12 (seven years ago) link

Of course it is. Should have known that as I'm friends with Mat on FB.

It's also on the forthcoming Balearic 2 comp from Chris Coco which has a pretty great tracklisting:

Been enjoying seeing everyone's Balearic challenge posts on FB. Lots of well known ones but some I'd never heard before, including this amazing edit/remix by Idjut Boys that Balearic Mike posted. Sounded absolutely perfect in the sunshine this weekend
