GRRM has specifically said he's not going to pull a Lost. I really hope he pulls it off.

schwantz, Thursday, 28 April 2016 22:16 (seven years ago) link

Dude has said a lot. But it's possible he'll pull it off in his way and the show will fail in its way. Or vice versa, both seem equally likely at this point, though there is a much greater chance of Martin dying before completing the story than the show getting cancelled before it reaches its own end.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 28 April 2016 22:18 (seven years ago) link

oh they're not gonna get cancelled, hasn't HBO already ordered the final seasons (w the show runners wanting to split the last season in half or something?)

Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 April 2016 22:19 (seven years ago) link

I hope this show ends with a ripping Edgar Winter guitar solo fwiw

Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 April 2016 22:19 (seven years ago) link

Oh, it won't get cancelled. What I mean is there is a good (or not small) chance the show will end its run (well or poorly) and GRRM won't.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 28 April 2016 22:24 (seven years ago) link

yeah I think that's entirely likely

Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 April 2016 22:26 (seven years ago) link

GRRM might be spooked by what went down with Robert Jordan, worried DBW and Benioff are his Brandon Sanderson, and get his ass in gear. would be excellent if the concluding book dropped the day the final season premiered

reggie (qualmsley), Thursday, 28 April 2016 22:40 (seven years ago) link

I feel a very tiny amount of bad that Shakey made a perfectly serviceable St. Elsewhere joke yesterday and then had to come back today and be like "they will not tie this up satisfactorily"

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Thursday, 28 April 2016 23:00 (seven years ago) link

i sort of feel bad too there's zero gay of thrones discussion on this thread

pretty sure the show ends with dany and jon sharing an incestuous kiss as they ride a dragon while it napalms an army of white walkers

oh btw there was a partial explanation to the buning question of where prince whothefuck was when the Sandsnakes killed him. The letter from Jaime his dad got said that the prince was being sent back to Dorne on a boat, so I assume the SS intercepted the boat after seeing the letter.

You know what they say about ASSuming. It makes an ASSassin out of you and me.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 29 April 2016 00:42 (seven years ago) link

ASS i always say, what, jaime betrayed cersei, and his whole "fuck the world, fuck everyone but us" speech was bullshit? why would that jaime write a letter to dr. bashir and not say boo to his sister/lover? where are my dragons? and where is bronn? did he deliver that letter? is he captive to the sandsnakes? where is theon's sister? where is beric dondarrion? loose threads everywhere

reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 29 April 2016 01:10 (seven years ago) link

Text of the letter:
"The Princess Myrcella died by poison on our return journey. I suspect Ellaria Sand, not you, but my sister will demand war. I doubt Ellaria’s head will appease her, but it is a start, along with your nieces. Your son cannot stay in King’s Landing. I am sending him back on the same ship."

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Friday, 29 April 2016 01:16 (seven years ago) link

xp Theon's sister will return along with Theon's uncle according to imdb

sarahell, Friday, 29 April 2016 06:20 (seven years ago) link

yeah they're back this season they've just been thinking for a while.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Friday, 29 April 2016 07:18 (seven years ago) link

Plenty of big moves in this episode. I like the Greyjoy home a lot. Surely it wouldn't be hard to kill off the sparrows now. Tyrion's risk with the dragons was unconvincing.

jon snow revive was too early

, Monday, 2 May 2016 12:58 (seven years ago) link

Why? I'm glad they didn't drag that one out.

Who is the cousin Jaime said he killed?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 2 May 2016 13:04 (seven years ago) link

big moves, bad dialogue, felt forced

ulysses, Monday, 2 May 2016 13:18 (seven years ago) link

When he was in a cell being held by the Starks.

dan selzer, Monday, 2 May 2016 13:18 (seven years ago) link

Alton Lannister. Jaime killed him to get out of his captivity in season 2.

A funny mention, since there definitely is a bunch of kin-slaying going on this season.

Frederik B, Monday, 2 May 2016 13:19 (seven years ago) link

I kinda like watching this show again after it caught up to the books. It's pretty clear that George RR Martin is much more concerned with the rules of his word than the Benioff and Weiss. Which is okay, of course, but I do scratch my head a bit if Ramsay Bolton can get away with killing his father, brother and (step)mother, without his men rebelling.

Frederik B, Monday, 2 May 2016 13:21 (seven years ago) link

But I still liked the episode more than I liked the last few I watched.

Frederik B, Monday, 2 May 2016 13:22 (seven years ago) link

So Melisandre was able to reanimate Jon because she had lost her faith, right? There was something in that Brotherhood w/o Banners storyline about how a priest lost his faith and then somehow woke the dead iirc

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Monday, 2 May 2016 16:14 (seven years ago) link

i think she was able to reanimate jon because kit harrington is pretty popular

ulysses, Monday, 2 May 2016 16:17 (seven years ago) link

Yeah. I'm not sure if they intended any sort of connection between corpse-revival-powers and loss-of-faith. I'm assuming a coincidence unless they reiterate it somehow. For instance, the Brothers priest guy was still able to revive their guy even after his faith was restored the first time it worked.

Evan, Monday, 2 May 2016 16:21 (seven years ago) link

I don't think the power gets revoked if your returns

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Monday, 2 May 2016 16:24 (seven years ago) link

Thoros then confesses how he had always had a large lack of faith in the Lord of Light and never took his duties seriously because of them, until the day that Gregor Clegane killed Beric, his friend, and Thoros was called upon him to revive him. When he saw that it worked, Thoros's faith was restored.

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Monday, 2 May 2016 16:26 (seven years ago) link

So you're saying there's a trial membership to get you hooked?

Evan, Monday, 2 May 2016 16:27 (seven years ago) link

i was thinking there would be some focus on "king's blood" as being special and as a foreshadowing of future revelations but other than showing her sponging him down for a weird amount of time that didnt happen.

ryan, Monday, 2 May 2016 16:28 (seven years ago) link

Yeah it would have been a little stronger if the "king's blood" had been a more significant element in the scene. I agree it certainly seemed that way with all of the sponging.

Evan, Monday, 2 May 2016 16:31 (seven years ago) link

p funny how the show ppl were so adamant abt saying he was dead and not coming back and no one believed them and then he only stayed dead for less than two eps

stoked for jamie to kill the sparrows

lag∞n, Monday, 2 May 2016 16:37 (seven years ago) link

they probably shouldn't have said anything. i think the fact that melisandre was there at the end of the season was the problem, like if she'd shown up at the beginning of this episode that would have been better for a cliffhanger. they should have kept him dead and brought back robb stark, complete with dire wolf head. that would freak out the squares even more.

nomar, Monday, 2 May 2016 16:37 (seven years ago) link

i have real beef with the idea that whatshername the kennel sadist girl falls off the castle wall and is hella dead but sansa and reek leap off a 60 foot embankment and are taking off on foot unharmed

ulysses, Monday, 2 May 2016 16:42 (seven years ago) link

didn't she land on dry ground and they jumped into a snow pile?

the greyjoy/iron islands shit feels a bit removed from the main action but it's awesome doom metal action, polar opposite of the cafe del mar court intrigue poisoning sullen teen BS of dorne.
