made from old windows. most people would consider this 'tacky' and 'gimmicky', but most people are pretty closed-minded in my experience

Really liking the stack of pallets in #26

I feel like a lot of these are in an uncanny valley of interior design, where they're so close to being really nice that they're ugly.

Some are just nice though. I can't really find fault with 19, 21 and 22 for example.

it would be neat if someone made a kitchen island out of antique cigar boxes and filled the shelves with French rolling pins so it looked like they were giant cigars

(I found a photo of a cigar box kitchen island, but it isn't mindblowing, so I don't feel comfortable posting it itt)

33 is a bit much imo

lag∞n, Saturday, 1 October 2016 00:44 (seven years ago) link

^strongly disagree with this

hippie lady from california who loves that god (unregistered), Saturday, 1 October 2016 18:18 (seven years ago) link

also feel like its ill conceived theres very little counter space in that whole kitchen

lag∞n, Sunday, 9 October 2016 15:26 (seven years ago) link

def opposed to putting the sink or stove on island, poor use of real estate, and then in the case of that one the multiple levels reduce its utility even further

lag∞n, Sunday, 9 October 2016 15:28 (seven years ago) link

#40 is the most mindblowing imo
WHAT IS DOWN THAT LADDER

Anacostia Aerodrome (El Tomboto), Sunday, 9 October 2016 15:30 (seven years ago) link

honestly the best island is prob just a big butcher block with stools on one side and cabinets underneath, maybe a trash hole and some power outlets tho im not even sure about those anything that breaks up the counter space makes the whole thing so much less useful

lag∞n, Sunday, 9 October 2016 15:32 (seven years ago) link

21 is prob closest to ideal

sorry but if you think 'usefulness' and ease of food preparation are valid criteria for judging kitchen islands then what are you even doing in this thread? I guess you'd consider it an improvement if they gutted Versailles and refurnished it with IKEA readymades, smh

kitchen island restaurant booth has you eating next to dirty dishes or soap smells. kitchen island command center is a death trap.

Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 18:09 (six years ago) link

if you aren't the last to enter kitchen island command center, you are probably on the menu

Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 18:10 (six years ago) link

45 is p cool tho id rather see a prep area there than a stove
