also "loving someone" is weird, it's easily my least favorite track on the album and yet i know several people who think it's the best thing ever

the production on the second verse of "if i believe you" routinely blows me away. the sudden choir bursts, the decaying percussion

the production on that entire song is unbelievable. the way his voice mutates slowly mutates into a robot's on the outro is one of my fav parts on the entire album.

the album is stylistically all over the place & better for it. chorus is awesome

i absolutely love "loving someone" but then i also enjoyed large swathes of the ed sheeran album so

and i think it flows very well in the album, the "you should be loving someone" opening as the echoes of a ghost that haunts the characters of "somebody else" or something or other

be honest y'all are being unfair to it bc it's sandwiched btwn the 2 best songs of all time

idk it's grown on me a lot but it's still a lesser "so far it's alright"

also the thought of the album not starting with "the 1975" into "love me" is making me want to kill myself your tracklist edits are offensive

don't get me wrong I really really like Loving Someone it's just an awkward moment in the flow

I think this album's sprawlingness is a big part of its charm so my edit would keep it more or less as it is, with possible removal of If I Believe You to irritate the real headz

it's a big improvement but it's not like where they started is anywhere close to bad. the biggest improvement is probably just the increased focus on the production from having a bigger budget?

Loving Someone is definitely one of the weaker tracks but I wouldn't skip it, and it's better than So Far (It's Alright) for sure

"So Far (It's Alright)" has better lyrics - some of Matt's best probably.

They could retire, give all their money was going to Syrian refugees, spend the rest of the lives working in camps with said refugees, disavow all their music and insist all future royalties were devoted to anonymously boosting education and health spending and you'd still accuse them of cynicism.

anyone else at the brooklyn show tonight?

all told i'd prob prefer to see them again in a smaller venue but it was a really edifying show. i feel like if they wrote 5 more songs like "the sound" they could be the biggest band in the world but it's cool that they don't and have teenagers grooving to shit like "a change of heart" and d'angelo's trumpet player's flugelhorn solo on some robo-gospel stadium song. they really sold "the sound" actually it was prob my fav moment of the night & obv that's far from my fav song of theirs. the crowd also seemed really into "loving someone". also maybe we're so distanced from "the city" and "chocolate" that it's hard to remember what they actually sound like but it sounded to me like they were playing them w/ more groovy guitar figures a la "girls" which was pretty cool.

I love Change of Heart but live his voice is really thin and whiny on it. On the record it's deep, lush, enveloping. :(

i'd given the 1995 wide berth based soley on their name (despite making substanial room in my life for king gizzard and the lizard wizard), but i like it when you sleep for you are a fiona apple album is pretty okay. they're better at soulful ballads than upbeat 80s dance pop, and i have no use whatsoever for the owl city ambient that bloats the album's midsection, but it boils down to a solid 45 minutes:

most of those listed tracks are dance pop though

yeah, it felt too mean to cut "love me" and "the sound". with "nana", those'd be the next to go.

Just chiming in since I was very late to the party due to their horrible name, but what great songs and sound - both albums are very strong and "This Must Be My Dream" is perfect summer driving music. Love how they use 80s signifiers as a tool rather than pastiche (why I also love Haim).
