I feel a bit sorry for GRRM because whatever storyline(s) he'd come up with prior, the internet has so furiously worked out All Possible Outcomes that hes kinda fucked no matter what eventuates. He's been backed into a corner by the success of the show, and I dont blame him for freezing up on completing more books tbh. Caveat: havent read the books, the language frippery frustrated me.But at this point it seems like no matter what he does (or the showrunners for that matter) someone'll go AH HA I KNEW IT.

Give away your best idea for what to do with the Ironborn fleet and then expect your relatives to just sit around and wait for you to murder them after you finish getting drowned! Yes, there is no way they'll steal your navy and your idea and just sail to Essos while you spit up seawater and get to wear some crown made out of driftwood.

OTOH if Yara & Theon sail for anywhere else, they completely deserve whatever's coming to them.

This show lost its emotional stakes for me a few seasons ago when it became clear its ideology was primarily nihilistic and it wasn't worth attaching to any characters. Now I'm just looking to be entertained by the plot.

i dont get a nihilistic vibe from the show--in fact most of the protagonists that die seem to demonstrate a Point of some sort that's still developing.

though frankly if things end on a nihilistic note i'd probably respect its singularity of purpose (if not enjoy it).

At this point I'm half expecting it to be foreshadowing for Littlefinger to be a warg of some sorts, able to turn himself into an eagle or whatever. Who even controls Moats Callin at this point?

The twist at the end of this episode has apparently been confirmed as coming from GRRM. Pretty amazing, imo.
