New and sublime. I had to stop watching it about three times on first attempt to wipe tears. Might be his best.

that video was ripe for one of these, excited

global tetrahedron, Wednesday, 27 September 2017 14:58 (six years ago) link

god he is just leagues above everyone else who does this. probably because he's obviously pretty musically competent

global tetrahedron, Wednesday, 27 September 2017 15:19 (six years ago) link

My only issue is that the original song isn't much less ridiculous than this version.

Truth.

he doesn't need to be racist about it though. (Austin), Wednesday, 27 September 2017 16:51 (six years ago) link

Comments are great! Like "this sounds like a '70s Meat Puppets" or "this sounds like Naked City."

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 September 2017 19:32 (six years ago) link

Hasn't quite topped the Stones one imo

imago, Wednesday, 27 September 2017 19:32 (six years ago) link

That Focus one is extremely Tim & Eric Morning Meditations

Evan, Wednesday, 27 September 2017 20:30 (six years ago) link

i still think the original few were the funniest things i've ever seen on the net.

My favorites are "Kenny G and Michael Bolton Shred"
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7P6QYWqRxww

Also the Hall and Oates Maneater. I have to take that one in small doses, it's so good.

calstars, Wednesday, 27 September 2017 21:54 (six years ago) link

St Sanders is probably the most accomplished (was he not also the original shred video maker?) but the Beach Boys' I Get Around and Johnny and June Carter Cash's Jackson both still leave me gasping for air

doug watson, Thursday, 28 September 2017 14:37 (six years ago) link

the Elvis one too, that one is brilliant

Both sound like a bit of a rough patch at a jamband festival.

The best shreds are definitely for me the guitar-heavy mainstream rock/pop-rock - the Focus tune seems about the absolute limit. Any further and we're going down the Captain Beefheart shreds route.

That's just the funniest thing, but perhaps the funniest thing to the fewest people for the most specific reasons.

Given the hysterical response to that video, it's clear that I should continue to keep my Beaterator tracks to myself.

I went back and watched the Eddie Van Halen one, which might have been the first or one of the first I ever saw, and it still kills me.
