As far as I can tell the lyrics on the screen when he is singing karaoke are just "ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME".
my favorite part. also my favorite genre of music video is the karaoke music video

"ugh" video was super tasteful so maybe it's the worst one even tho it might be the most objectively "good"
― J0rdan S., Friday, 8 July 2016 14:48 Bookmark
objectively effective not aesthetic arguably tho? faithfully dramatizes irritably static ennui and its rote glamour (m/l runs with neon box cover art/transparent prison cell/installation claustrophobic motif as in 'the sound')

"Girls" is a good video, it feels like a really pop video

"objectively effective not aesthetic arguably tho? faithfully dramatizes irritably static ennui and its rote glamour"
are these intended to sound like 1975 lyrics

Has Matt or anyone else in the band ever said why they don't play "The City" live anymore?

how were they live?

They played a really fantastic show.

"Me" is still the best song ever for staring out at a city at night from a hotel room on a high floor while jetlagged.

It's such a shame that the NME jumped the shark years ago, this would have been a great moment to cite as the nail in the coffin if only the ship hadn't already sailed.
― Working night & day, I tried to stay awake... (Turrican), Thursday, 24 November 2016 15:04 (seven years ago) link
A worthy winner. Despite some obvious flaws with the all new NME (I've still not forgiven them for that Chris Moyles cover) this is the third year in a row that they've picked something brilliant as their album of the year (St Vincent in 2014 and Grimes last year). Just popped over to their Facebook page to see the reaction. Seems like a lot of Radiohead fans are not pleased.
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 24 November 2016 15:12 (seven years ago) link
I'd imagine fans of music wouldn't be pleased either.

I'm looking forward to seeing how well they do in our poll in the new year. A top five placement sounds good to me.

Doubt they'll do that. Top 20 certainly on. I might make them my #25 lol

Loving Someone took a long time to grow on me. I just wish the album ended at Paris. That's my only complaint about it.
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 24 November 2016 21:41 (seven years ago) link
i haven't read this whole thread but i assume consensus is you could easily carve 20ish minutes out of this thing and what you'd have left would be in contention for the year's best album?
― alpine static, Thursday, 24 November 2016 21:46 (seven years ago) link
nah it all feels pretty necessary to me

like the sprawl gives it shape and narrative that it otherwise wouldn't have; if you cut it down it can become a pop album or a moody subterranean thing but that it manages to flow out of one form into the next and then back is why it's actually remarkable
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Thursday, 24 November 2016 21:56 (seven years ago) link
I don't love every song, but agree that the sprawl is a necessary structure to cover the range the album has, just like the White Album

i forgot i came in here and posted that thing about carving 20ish minutes out. fair all around ... i certainly have elevated bloated-ish albums as high as #1 in a given year before in the name of ambition or w/e. it's cool.
still, i think i would actually *enjoy* listening to an edited version more. i think you can cut Please Be Naked. it's good and interesting, but doesn't accomplish much that they don't accomplish elsewhere on the album. i'm torn on the last two tracks and their necessity.
ALL THAT SAID, i am very much in the process of falling deeply in love with this album, so i may decide in two days that it's perfect as is and i'll murder anyone who says differently.
right now i'm at the "go back and read the whole ILM thread" stage of that process :)
― alpine static, Monday, 28 November 2016 09:14 (seven years ago) link
i mean, it says a lot that i created an itunes playlist and am trying to edit the album down and having a hard time doing so!
― alpine static, Monday, 28 November 2016 09:19 (seven years ago) link
Love it when a new ILX poster falls into the honey trap of 1975 fandom.
Also Alpine's post actually did inspire me to reread this thread and can I just:
I would expect that Matt Healey knows what he's doing in interviews. Given who his parents are, I would be completely surprised if he hadn't had some sort of advice or media training. I'm sure Matt Healey knows exactly what he's doing.― Turrican, Friday, October 9, 2015 3:36 PM (one year ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

is it just me that feels that there's some the 1975 in this bieber's song?
nowadays i see the 1975 in almost everything i listen, so i can't judge properly.

Holy shit. Ok, so I didn't like the debut at all. If it wasn't for D-40's comparison of this album to In Ghost Colours somewhere upthread, I wouldn't have even bothered...
Fucking awesome album. I'll eventually re-listen to the debut as a few of you seem to think this isn't an improvement.

def an improvement but i think that it also brings out some things i didn't realize were good about the first one in retrospect

their best songs live are generally the ones where they have to rethink the arrangements, so: the ep tracks and "m.o.n.e.y.", which i'm glad they're playing again
