not sure if its exactly this thread for it but the dudes in tommy awards have a new-ish tape out called 'sessions II' that i think is fantastic. its on the more cosmic end of balearic but its probably my favorite new thing so far this year

Could not agree with this more. I keep returning to that Baltic Beat record and it keeps sounding better and better. Love that one. The title track is the stand out, but the second side is nearly as good.

Also, that Quiet Village remix comp is so killer. That Francois K remix is probably my fave.

seems like a lot of these niche reissue labels are taking their cues from music-sharing blogs

i've been noticing this for over a decade... a blog sharing obscure music shares some obscure, semi-forgotten album, and some time later it's given a boutique reissue. although now the time lag seems be to getting shorter. that system album was shared on a prominent blog about a year and a half ago.

Been playing Wilson Tanner and Sketches 2 a ton myself. Just drove down the coast of Vancouver Island listening to Sketches 2. Probably an experience I'll never forget.

Mark Barrott's wikipedia entry is pretty good.

Interesting perspective. Suki is the song on the album I like least. Maybe I should make breakfast and try it again.

Suki is the only one that deliberately goes for an easy listening tropicalia vibe. The rest is much more in line with the new age balearic norm. Very pretty but I think I prefer the Wolf Muller & Cass album overall.
