The rest of it is Spirit In the Sky, but bear in mind he was singing unintelligble gibberish instead of "night" ("dince?" WTF?) that same day so he was obviously having some sort of *episode* (possibly brought on from excessive listening to Wet Wet Wet and Elton John).

I am saddened at just how many of these I can recognise.

Amazing! It probably more likely that I heard it wrong than he sang "dince" then. Though it's still very possible.

"Saga 106.6 fm"

At least I know what radio station he listens to. He was walking round for hours singing the jingle.

Steve.n. (sjkirk), Thursday, 23 June 2005 18:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Hahaha, my jazz class teacher sang so badly I was convinced the line was "Mister Saturday night". Hence my post up there. Silly man (and silly me too, I guess).

I think I might have to listen to Saga 106.6 (that's radio-for-old-gits, I assume) since you just don't get to hear Eye of the Tiger enough these days.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 23 June 2005 18:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Saga 106.6 fm is quite good sometimes. Some of the presenters are *nutcases*. Some in better ways that others mind. I tune in occasionally hoping to hear "Since You Been Gone".

05/11/2004 : "I built this city on rock and roll"

Oh, does he really singularise things so that it's just about *him*? That's brilliant!

Also, can you explain "Foul! Bobby Charlton!" to me?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 23 June 2005 18:41 (eighteen years ago) link

(unless you are punctuating inappropriately, and he was just describing his hairstyle or something)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 23 June 2005 18:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah he's always singularising things, or getting the subject wrong in other ways. The Bobby Charlton thing he just said, like that. I assume he heard it on the radio earlier. He's kind of like a human (lossy) tape recorder.

Watching the local KTLA news station this morning and Paul Anka is a guest (he's the old guy who wrote the "Tonight Show Theme" and "Diana" and "Put your head on my shoulder" and others) he's pitching his new CD of... drum roll please...cover versions of songs like Nirvana's teenage angst classic, "Smells Like Teen Spirit", but the deal is they are in "swing style" Oy! Steve n., If you need a holiday gift for the singing boss man, this is the deal for you!

Ste: He often walks into people's offices singing loudly and kind of adds the greeting to the end as if it were part of the song. It's all over there, Ruth, Frank, Alan.

He's not in yet, but yesterday:

23/06/2005 : "There was a time.. back in 19"
"My baby let me down"

He was mostly just singing "There was a time" all day, but not quite annoyingly enough for me to keep listing it.

Steve.n. (sjkirk), Friday, 26 August 2005 07:02 (eighteen years ago) link

He has tourettes, right? He must have.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 26 August 2005 08:32 (eighteen years ago) link

This is one of my favourite threads. I'm sorry you have to go through so much pain to bring it to us, Steve.

beanz (beanz), Friday, 26 August 2005 08:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I was talking to his PA about his singing and apparently one day recently (I assume 04/08/2005) she said to him:

"Oh you've been listening to Wham then?"
"What?"
"You were singing Wham"
"Was I? What?"

So he's obviously unaware that he's doing it. God knows how because it's so loud, but then everything he does is loud, one assumes because he likes to let everyone know he runs the place.

The 02/08/2005 one was particularly bizarre because we were talking about something we were working on in the lab, when he walks in, goes up to the big machine we have in the corner and exclaims "Niger!" then turns around and starts talking to us like nothing strange had happened. I found it very hard not to laugh out loud on that occasion. This was the time that the big news was the famine in Niger.

I think tourettes might be the explanation - he is prone to fits of swearing too.
