her first two recordings are absolutely wonderful. people bandy about the word 'quirky', but regina actually was. i don't have much of a stomach for singer songwriters, but she's an exception. "soviet kitsch" is one of my favorite albums of 2004/2005. oh, and she's one of the nicest, sweetest musicians i have ever met. she really is the same person on record and off.

her new album is boring and looking for mainstream acceptance, which means almost everything that was good about her other stuff is gone. very disappointed.

I was surprised how much Conan was impressed by her! I'm thinking because he's so used to seeing bands every day, a cute sad little piano solo really does stand out.

She was fucking amazing live in Bristol last night. My girlfriend took me and I loved every minute. Fuck site better than Bloc Party in Exeter the night before.

New new?

Personally I think she's kind of insufferable.

My friend bought Begin to Hope and now he plays it constantly in his car, mostly because he knows I hate it. Regina Spektor, The Darkness, and Arnold Schoenberg all share the ability to make me feel physically uncomfortable with their music.

Maybe it's just this album. I heard the song Us once and thought it was really good. But Fidelity especially makes me want to stick hot irons in my ears.

I really like her, which is good, cos my girlfriend loves her. She was wonderful live.

Saw her in DC a year ago and wholeheartedly agree. The whole "chair as instrument" thing is nice.
