i'm still formulating that; i haven't finished the book yet. i guess what bothers me is that the book follows the conventional wisdom storyline -- the spring training game, varitek brawl, jeter catch -- and simply sabr's it a little bit. aka they'll talk about some key at bat -- not a clutch ab, mind you -- and then discuss the trends that situation was defying/defining. but the meat and potatoes of it is hardly that different from whatever bullshit sox/yankees book is coming out this week. with a few exceptions of course. but in the end, the last thing i need to read about is the a-rod non-trade/trade or the saga of nomah.

I can't even begin to legitimize that verb. Tho I understand it, having read Jams' springtime Felliniesque caricature of what he considers to be the SABR public. (it's like SportsCenter's without the 'wacky nerd' musical accompaniment) And besides, "the conventional wisdom storyline" remains THEY BEAT THE CURSE, the antithesis of Goldman and co.
