http://sinbin.vegas/report-name-selected-one-three/

There are three names the team appears to be moving forward with: the Desert Hawks, the Red Hawks, and the Nighthawks. These names were all registered as several different domain names by Black Knight IP Holding Company, LLC, the company owned by Las Vegas hockey owner Bill Foley within the last few weeks. -Chris Creamer

please not red hawks

Those are some real garbage team names right there. I guess the last one might appeal to Tom Waits fans

nighthawk sounds like an x-man

hoping they wear wings on their backs and use glitter on their sweaters

shithawks would be better.

can imagine just how horrendous their "home" crowd will be: drunk Albertan oil bros wanting to add some hockey to their gambling and johning weekend in vegas

My buddy and I were saying that this might be the best Team Canada we've seen in our lifetimes. They are just so unbelievably dominant out there. For some reason I still wanna cheer for team NA but gosh. Canada.

Price looked incredible, both of those goals were weird. In my mind he played shutout-worthy hockey.

a simba man (Will M.), Wednesday, 21 September 2016 14:56 (seven years ago) link

the people who run USA hockey are obsessed with canada and apparently think that finishing every check is the way to beat them

there's probably no way to beat canada, because that team is amazing, but this method is not working. and nor is it helping team USA beat anyone else. 5-0 loss to finland in the 2014 bronze medal game, 3-0 loss to 'team europe' here. kessel otm

mookieproof, Wednesday, 21 September 2016 16:21 (seven years ago) link

This basically summed it up for me: http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2016/9/12/12873616/team-america-fun-police-why-i-can-t-root-for-team-usa-s-world-cup-team

esp: "You wonder where’s Tyler Johnson, Paul Stastny or Bobby Ryan. Players who actually can move the puck through the neutral zone and get shots."

I would also add that a bunch of the young guns being put on Team NA instead of the full US team is a travesty, such as Larkin, Saad, and Gaudreau. But then again, lolTorts, Lolmbardi.

what a continent

mookieproof, Wednesday, 21 September 2016 19:17 (seven years ago) link

i though the whole idea was that the young guns only went on team NA? i mean if they were allowed to take those guys, i can't imagine canada would have passed over mcdavid.

still usa's roster is hilarious, even without all of those awesome and fun younger dudes you'd think they'd put together a squad worth watching

is it true that they only put ryan kesler o the tema to fuck with crosby?

a simba man (Will M.), Wednesday, 21 September 2016 19:22 (seven years ago) link

i thought they only put dubinsky on the team to fuck with crosby, but then they sat him last night

not a great showing for the tuomases, outscored 9-1

mookieproof, Thursday, 22 September 2016 21:33 (seven years ago) link

Canada has yet to lose in best-on-best action since the preliminary round of the 2010 Olympics, a stretch of more than six years.

mookieproof, Sunday, 25 September 2016 02:23 (seven years ago) link

lil sketchy there for a while!

Feels great to finally come out on top in the historic Canada-Europe rivalry

lettered and hapful (symsymsym), Friday, 30 September 2016 03:08 (seven years ago) link

feel kinda sad for the guys from a lot of those countries given that's the closest they'll probably get in their careers to winning an international tournament... but man could they have made them look more like the hyper-generic villains in a kids' hockey movie? like they were straight up iceland in mighty ducks 2.

also JONATHAN TOEWS IS MY FAVOURITE INTERNATIONAL ICE HOCKEY BOY STILL!

a simba man (Will M.), Friday, 30 September 2016 14:22 (seven years ago) link

that's the closest they'll probably get in their careers to winning an international tournament

pretty close! i mean it's been 10 years since the sweden-finland olympic final, americans took canada to overtime in the 2010 final, but that's about it.

thought the europeans played great -- nothing flashy, but more that nick lidstrom 'always in the right position' way -- but they just didn't have the offensive talent (or the four lines of all-stars) to actually beat canada

mookieproof, Friday, 30 September 2016 14:59 (seven years ago) link

by "they" i mean players from slovakia, slovenia, germany, switzerland, norway etc. since there's a good chance that this team NA/team Europe thing will be a one-off. sweden & finland i feel will always have a good chance.

a simba man (Will M.), Friday, 30 September 2016 15:25 (seven years ago) link

i know it's preseason but i could see NJD being better than NYR this year
