Are you doing a complex search? Basic ones are rattling along for me here. The index doesn't get updated in real-time though, so you can't see new posts instantly in search

Searched your terrible ideas

Seems a bit slow but could be my connection

F♯ A♯ (∞), Thursday, 25 August 2016 00:32 (seven years ago) link

I used to have to press submit twice now it works first time

Godlike prowess imo stet

the "x minutes ago" portion of each post now spells out the numbers? this is charming, but is it intentional?

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 August 2016 00:54 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, it's a new bit of Keith code that.

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:37 (seven years ago) link

i much prefer the numerals so i would like to be given a choice but if this is just how it is now i will live with it

esempiu (crüt), Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:39 (seven years ago) link

also i just noticed: i have images off; this used to mean youtube embeds were also turned into links, but this no longer seems to be the case

esempiu (crüt), Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:41 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, I messed up the filter for those; will fix that but not tonight

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:42 (seven years ago) link

cool, i'm into it

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:44 (seven years ago) link

I'd prefer if it stays this way.

Treeship, Thursday, 25 August 2016 01:48 (seven years ago) link

wonder what's changed

charming, yes, but it does take more mental effort to derive the information, just as it would if the code changed to display:

August Twenty-Fourth, Two Thousand Sixteen, Six:Fifty Nine Post Meridian

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Thursday, 25 August 2016 02:08 (seven years ago) link

you can handle it, big guy

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 August 2016 02:10 (seven years ago) link

i have images turned off but still get youtube embeds. no big deal, just fyi

brimstead, Thursday, 25 August 2016 02:18 (seven years ago) link

I preferred the numbers as well.

This has apparently affected Mobile Device Interface somehow? When I try to access it through Firefox on Android, I get a message that begins:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it.

how's life, Thursday, 25 August 2016 10:20 (seven years ago) link

Can't find the Mobile Device Interface at all, actually. Was it nuked?

how's life, Thursday, 25 August 2016 10:21 (seven years ago) link

Oh yes, nuked. I'll see if I can rehabilitate it if you use it a lot.

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 10:41 (seven years ago) link

Actually, I probably won't. Google are punishing us for not having a mobile-friendly main site, so fixing that is probably the best solution of all

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 10:42 (seven years ago) link

the "numbers written as words" is the best new feature in forever, please keep

blafe and sand (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 25 August 2016 12:13 (seven years ago) link

plz convert all units of time to minutes

ninety-eight minutes ago
five hundred twelve minutes ago
five million, seven hundred eighty-five thousand, five hundred sixty minutes ago

The 'numbers written as words' thing is making me feel like Laura Linney's co-worker in You Can Count On Me post-Broderick.

heaven parker (anagram), Thursday, 25 August 2016 13:03 (seven years ago) link

stet, is there any programming magic you can do to fix all these shit opinions?

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Thursday, 25 August 2016 13:05 (seven years ago) link

Marge Simpson: Look at this place. The house number is spelled out with letters.

Max Power: Get used to it, honey. From now on we'll be spelling everything with letters.

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 August 2016 13:45 (seven years ago) link

I love server restarts because it means blog view will work for at least a few days before wandering off again.

I pointed out the flaw in Keith and stet allowing posting functionality many years ago in a classic post in a classic suggest ban thread

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 August 2016 14:34 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, I've always found the presence of that stupid 'Submit Post' button bothersome.

An Automatic Response To Things That Are Bullshit (Old Lunch), Thursday, 25 August 2016 14:59 (seven years ago) link

why would anyone prefer words to numbers in this case? it's horrible imo. "27" can be digested much quicker than "twenty-seven"

chicken lit (rip van wanko), Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:12 (seven years ago) link

whoa, YouTube videos are embedded now! (even if images are turned off!) took me by surprise

i think i like it, actually

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:20 (seven years ago) link

My god the digestion

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:22 (seven years ago) link

I like the words, but think it probably should be a style option.

Youtube embeds on images off is definitely a mistake (why would you be okay w/ youtubes if you're not okay with images?) but I see stet is aware of the issue.

emil.y, Thursday, 25 August 2016 16:25 (seven years ago) link

The numbers as words thing just means that the message signature is even more often longer than the message, especially when reading on my phone because it's narrow.

koogs, Thursday, 25 August 2016 18:18 (seven years ago) link

The message 3 above this one is one line of text, 3 lines of metadata

koogs, Thursday, 25 August 2016 18:20 (seven years ago) link

can any value above forty be expressed in scores, please?

chicken lit (rip van wanko), Thursday, 25 August 2016 18:26 (seven years ago) link

have we ever discussed moving the board over to discourse.org

i kid i kid

Is this update available in the US? to all? Is it an artifact of the maintenance?

You mean the Zing update? That is still waiting on Apple

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 19:24 (seven years ago) link

I put this in another thread, but stet/keith or whoever is in charge of code these days is more likely to notice it here:

After yesterday's maintenance I find I must log in to ILX every time I start my browser afresh. I allow cookies from ilxor.com and I check the Remember Me box each time I log in. Doesn't seem to make any difference. (I'm using IE11 on Win7. All upgrades installed afaik.)

wassup wit dat?

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Thursday, 25 August 2016 22:25 (seven years ago) link

Are the cookies definitely being saved? Not sure how you view them on IE, sorry

stet, Thursday, 25 August 2016 22:48 (seven years ago) link

If the cookie format was not changed, I'm not sure why my previously stored cookies from before the maintenance would not have been recognized afterward. It might help if I could wipe all ilxor.com cookies and let the system start over with them, but I do not know that particular trick. Also, my login email address (& domain) no longer exist, and I don't know if System wants to see a valid address or not.

Worst case: I guess I could switch to Firefox or something.

Fair enough. I've been using it since 2009 or something though, but I've never seen any indication that other people access the site in this way. It's also been my secret fix to view images when logged in as a mod on my pc though.

how's life, Friday, 26 August 2016 10:15 (seven years ago) link

Lol. Of 18 posts mentioning Mobile Device Interface since keith rolled it out in 2008, 13 of them were by me.
