Borussia Dortmund 5 Legia Warsaw 2 - after 32 minutes.

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 20:42 (seven years ago) link

This is an absolute joke.

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 20:56 (seven years ago) link

lol

mookieproof, Tuesday, 22 November 2016 20:56 (seven years ago) link

I hope CSKA win at Wembley. Spurs don't even deserve be in the Europa League.

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 21:00 (seven years ago) link

The Dortmund match is now 7-4.

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 21:27 (seven years ago) link

Good riddance to Spurs. Theyve been atrocious

Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 21:34 (seven years ago) link

I’d like to say Spurs are going out with a bong. But given the slackness of their performance, it would almost be more appropriate to say going out with a bong. But let’s not.

put down the bong

Dortmund 8 Legia 4

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 21:39 (seven years ago) link

presume that's a record?

Number None, Tuesday, 22 November 2016 21:40 (seven years ago) link

Feyenoord beat KR Reykjavík 12–2 in the first round in 1969–70. This is the overall record for all European Cup/Champions League matches.
Borussia Dortmund beat Legia Warsaw 8–4 in the group stage in 2016–17. This is the record for the Champions League era.

harold melvin and the bluetones (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 21:43 (seven years ago) link

Barcelona have a shot of beating it tomorrow night though.

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 21:44 (seven years ago) link

luckily for me i have a day from hell in work tomorrow and won't have the time or inclination to follow how many goals the famous glasgow celtic are shipping

harold melvin and the bluetones (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 21:46 (seven years ago) link

two maybe three decent performances since late April is the kind of thing that generated non-whimsical '[Spurs manager] out' talk back in the day, just sayin

The Codling Of The London Suede (Legal Warning Across The Atlantic) (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 22 November 2016 23:20 (seven years ago) link

I didn't watch the game but the expanded squad options have really fucked us. Even without injuries Poch has been rotating into systems for which we are manifestly unsuited. Also I miss Toby. When is he coming back?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 November 2016 23:45 (seven years ago) link

I've been pochouttino for months but let's be serious here he's earned a lot of goodwill and he's not near spent it all

identity politics rooted in tolkienism (darraghmac), Wednesday, 23 November 2016 00:17 (seven years ago) link

The Lamela injury hasn't exactly helped either - he's had some subpar performances this season but he's a sorely missed creative spark with Eriksen so out of sorts.

Guessing we'll deliberately tank the third Wembley game in order to try and avoid the Europa now. Hardly £150 well spent in any case. There's a lot to be said for reverting to last year's XI (give or take a Wanyama) as soon as we can.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 23 November 2016 00:21 (seven years ago) link

Poch out is premature but starting a must-win game with Derby, Wimmer and Trippier at the back is straight up negligence. The whole CL campaign has been an embarrassment. It has been the holy grail for years and when achieved taken with the same seriousness as a Europa away leg vs Qarabag. It hasn't just been inept, it has been pathetic.

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Wednesday, 23 November 2016 06:36 (seven years ago) link

Dier*

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Wednesday, 23 November 2016 06:38 (seven years ago) link

I'm starting to wonder how bad his falling out with Vertonghen was, and whether something escalated ahead of the game. Vertonghen has been poor in the CL but that back line was a disaster even on paper. His selections haven't made much sense throughout the tournament and it has looked like he's been resting players for Premier League ties the following weekend.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 23 November 2016 11:03 (seven years ago) link

Yep, that's the assumption the TV commentators were working on as well - Vertonghen and Walker were being rested for the Chelsea game at the weekend.

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Wednesday, 23 November 2016 13:20 (seven years ago) link

Amazing early games - my boy Azmoun inspired Rostov to a 3-2 win over Bayern, Besiktas came back from 3-0 down at half time to draw.

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Wednesday, 23 November 2016 19:49 (seven years ago) link

Rte showing celtic AGAIN. game prob picked at start of the group tbf

Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Wednesday, 23 November 2016 20:03 (seven years ago) link

SV, did Bayern just throw the game or? They sank us to fourth. Which is probably for the best, to be out of Europe entirely. Already cant wait for this dreadful season to be over for us tbh

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 23 November 2016 20:09 (seven years ago) link

(Not taking anything away from Rostov btw, they have been impressive against Ajax earlier, just a bit uneven at times)

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 23 November 2016 20:10 (seven years ago) link

No, Bayern were on top for most of the game and Rostov scored with pretty much all of their shots on target. It's a bit of a fluke but Bayern were ok.

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Wednesday, 23 November 2016 20:12 (seven years ago) link

Good on Rostov though, they've made their mark and won't be a one day fly I think.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 23 November 2016 20:30 (seven years ago) link

Benficas third goal was hilarious: they hit the crossbar, right post, left post and then scored.

Jibe, Wednesday, 23 November 2016 22:28 (seven years ago) link

I just came here to post that Benfica goal.

Matt DC, Thursday, 24 November 2016 14:36 (seven years ago) link

loudmouth darraghmac ween (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 December 2016 20:26 (seven years ago) link

tbf i only saw it once - the Russian commentators were saying Dzagoev was offside xp

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Wednesday, 7 December 2016 20:26 (seven years ago) link

How are they getting this much space on the break? Should be 1-2.

Bubba H.O.T.A.P.E (ShariVari), Wednesday, 7 December 2016 20:29 (seven years ago) link

weve no fullbacks defending, one cb and hes not really too bothered and wanyama isnt even covering very well.

loudmouth darraghmac ween (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 December 2016 20:31 (seven years ago) link

Leicester throwing a CL match. Fuck 2016.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 20:32 (seven years ago) link

been ok so far but the lack of any option for walker to pop a quick ball to feet in to son, alli or kane seems a glaring flaw

loudmouth darraghmac ween (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 December 2016 20:32 (seven years ago) link

oh thats rather lovely

loudmouth darraghmac ween (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 December 2016 20:32 (seven years ago) link

bizarre og but really good and varied buildup play tonight. kane makes everything else work.

loudmouth darraghmac ween (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 December 2016 21:23 (seven years ago) link

Enjoyed that a lot more than the two games that actually meant something.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 22:13 (seven years ago) link

I remembered within about 20 seconds of his having come on that Alderweireld is our main playmaker.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 22:14 (seven years ago) link

Manchester City v Monaco
Real Madrid v Napoli
Benfica v Borussia Dortmund
Bayern Munich v Arsenal
FC Porto v Juventus
Bayer Leverkusen v Atletico Madrid
Paris St-Germain v Barcelona
Sevilla v Leicester

Nult:

"There will be guarded optimism surrounding the prospect of facing Bayern Munich, Sevilla and Monaco..."

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Monday, 12 December 2016 14:30 (seven years ago) link

Thinks that's a cracking draw. Aside from Juve and Atleti who I expect to progress and PSG vs Barcelona for what seems like the fourth year in a row the other 5 ties actually have me interested.

mookieproof, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 20:06 (six years ago) link

-_- (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 20:40 (six years ago) link

guaranteed a ton of goals, "battle of britain" guff in the press, rodgers visiting anfield with new club, celtic and liverpool haven't played each other since 2003 (and celtic won).

-_- (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 20:42 (six years ago) link

Ya

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 20:42 (six years ago) link

didn't see the game -- were the two hoffenheim goals fluke-y or was it just bad defense again?

gbx, Wednesday, 23 August 2017 20:47 (six years ago) link

Wanna know what dunphy thinks

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 20:49 (six years ago) link

First was very sloppy from open play

Second was a poorly defended cross
