Got back into the ramps and pools a bunch of years, had a blast, then had a freakish accident on a big, beautiful halfpipe resulting in broken leg. Have backed off the vert now, thank you v much. But miss it, yeah.

So it's hard to explain to non-skaters sometimes why we even do this shit. But I found this short video today, sorry if it's been posted here already. But it's got a minimalist take on pool riding, and it rules

I think about this sometimes. Even though I've spent 99% more time NOT skating in the last 20 years it's still really amazing how much skateboarding influenced my life and affects how I see things.

I've joked with my wife about how stubborn I can be about trying to learn things while she tends to get lazy and quits much sooner. Then I show her some video of a dude trying 20 times to ollie something huge and wrecking himself for the first 19. It was the same for me, just trying something over and over and over and fucking it up repeatedly until you finally get it and you're either super stoked or just irate that it took that long. I've fallen at a restaurant carrying a tray full of dishes and instinctively rolled out of it in a way that prevented injury and kept the tray upright. Skateboarding got me into music, and art, and graphic design, and tattoos, and any number of things that have been huge parts of my life since.

I was walking with the kid and the dog the other day and went by a house with three brothers playing out front; two were goofing around with a basketball and one was wearing a Thrasher shirt and repeatedly trying to ollie, just over and over with little success. I just wanted to yell KEEP DOING THAT IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE at him.
