I am just thrilled that the bagpipe guy was a one-day thing. Since his disappearance, Beatles guy has I think been reaching for slightly deeper cuts. Heard ''I Need You'' the other day. He's still lousy, but at least he is enthusiastic and not playing the bagpipes.

Sadly, over the course of construction, the MTA scrapped some fancy features, including glass platform walls with sliding doors that would have increased energy efficiency and prevented people from throwing trash on the tracks (or jumping onto them).

absolute trash

Popped into my head today: a song performed by some platform acoustic guitar dude, possibly as far back as ten years ago. I suspect if I actually heard it, I would find it to be pretty intolerable coffee-shop earnest-folk jam dude stuff, but in my brain as it resonates it's sounding very hooky. All I can remember: "Cause you know it's a sin, halfway down and halfway out." Not much to go on and presumably I will never hear or find this song again. Kinda content with the version in my head which is sounding more and more Kurt Vile-esque than it ever did in reality. Sorta like Little Pete and "Summerbaby" on The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Ho hum.

Yes that was fun. I completely missed a 9am mandatory meeting. Sadly though 2 hours is not even my longest commute ever.

Silly article - there's an etiquette issue but it's not about preserving some Quiet Car vision of a world made tolerable by people not having phone conversations, it's just that people talk way too loud on their phones. Also um... for those of us on elevated lines there is nothing new about this at all.

The bigger problem IMHO, and where headphones actually come into play, is people playing games or watching videos on their phones.

i have on at least one occasion witnessed someone watching porn on a phone in the subway without headphones

Tonight on the Williamsburg Bridge, a guy waited until like 45 seconds before arrival at Marcy to turn on the boom box and declare "This is showtime, ladies and gentlemen" - a couple of bars went by without him doing any stunts and then he sort of declared to himself "waited too long" or something like that, and shut it off. Did he just space out for a while? Was he hunting for the perfect spot on the car?

one month passes...

scruffy presumably homeless young dude lying prone on the subway seat yesterday kept dispassionately yelling FUCK YOU every eight to ten seconds for an hour punctuated by occasional moments of hysterical laughter and "next stop: GUANTANAMO"
at one point someone must've challenged him because I overheard "FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU. Not you. Them. FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU."
which inevitably brought to mind

we're definitely moving toward a casualty event
