just like the platitudinous zombified cut-and-dry voice of takes far and wide. like, Vice tone is indistinguishable from salon, huffpo, slate to me now. for all the awful things about 00's-Vice (the ironic racism--at least among hipsters--seems thoroughly out of style but the unironic racism of McInnes seems a throughline to alt-right in hindsight) the writing had a distinct voice. maybe it was ripped off from 90s zines or whatever but it was strongly associated with Vice and the foundation of the brand

on the 'paying workers slave wages' front, they've recently unionized, so, maybe something will happen with that

This means the staff gets decent salaries, and benefits; their freelance rates are at the low end of average. Each of the 3 stories I've written for them has paid $125. Bandcamp pays 3x that.

lol yeah I was going to say, Rolling Stone really hit its stride by providing political commentary of a sort that wasn't widespread AT THE SAME TIME they were pronouncing god status on rock dudes who were fucking fourteen year olds

Much like what Pulp Fiction did with John Travolta in the early 90s, 2016 has thrust white nationalism back to the forefront of our collective psyche, forcing our society to—again, much like Travolta—stare continuously into its insane, twinkling, dead eyes.

thinking aout what lex was saying on the other thread about Vice (well, Noisey) being performatively woke while not actually paying writers well enough to make writing for them worthwhile, but this is more an argument of how you get what you pay for

compare & contrast

We're going to fight like fuck to use our platform here at Noisey to oppose everything Donald Trump and his administration represent. We're going to fight like fuck—because that's all we can do.

Unity is used by everyone from individuals to professional studios that make "AAA indies" like Firewatch and Gone Home. You can make basically any kind of game with Unity, and sure, it can look a little intimidating at first.

But the tutorials and community support are excellent.

Local hero. What makes Dan Burke Dan Burke?
Matt: Well, he's willing to fight for what's right, literally.

Jay: I also think there isn't a single young starting-up band in Toronto that doesn't cross paths with Dan Burke.

Matt: Dan Burke has been doing it for so long, that he's just, like cut, like he's like a leather piece of...

Jared: Toronto music.

Matt: He is! There's no bullshit with him. There's a video of it online, but the story is one time a band wouldn't leave the stage. They had gone over their allotted time, and the next band was starting to set up, but the other band wouldn't stop playing, and so Dan Burke punched one of the guys and then they started a huge fight. You can see this video on YouTube. Search up"Dan Burke fight." And then the bass player from the band breaks his bass over Dan Burke's head. You just think, "Jesus, Burke, you're a..." Anyway, he, he's not fucking around.
