Is there a difference between "mumble rap" and "coco yayo maco wacko no-fi schmoundcloud dooblebob vine rap thingy?" (idk how to hyperlink to that poll)

XXXtenacion is blowing up & sure to be controversial, like if Uzi Vert was more into rock & raw emotional gut spillage & blown out death grips-ish aggro sonics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wmjpp0_6kb0

I have mixed feelings personally, not my usual thing, although the ballads can be touching

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhJKwHQ4sq8

There's also some controversy & rumors of him having a violent history

rico nasty has a great natural charisma & likeability on those tracks. production is painfully lo-budge amateur. altho the samples were fun, as were the videos

"midpt between thug & 21" is so accurate a description of SahBabii that i had to turn it off. too soon

what's the relevant deej world of yung ppl opinion on peewee longway? i like this song

Peepee was a Thug also-ran who never achieved liftoff but had some good songs c 2014, iirc

flopson, Wednesday, 18 January 2017 18:26 (seven years ago) link

thug also ran? he doesn't really remind me of thug on that

who was that chubby super hardrock dude that never wore a shirt from detroit that deej was really big on then he went to prison? (like this was at keef's ilm peak era?) kinda reminds me of that

blonde redheads have more fun (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 18:30 (seven years ago) link

Spottie, Wednesday, 18 January 2017 20:14 (seven years ago) link

Yes, deej! Thanks that was driving me crazy, did I ever tell you I watched this "documentary" on Yae Yae on Amazon Prime that was mostly just unedited footage of them getting wasted in this shitty house and talking shit to the camera then one of his guys played Russian Roulette for real

blonde redheads have more fun (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 19 January 2017 00:09 (seven years ago) link

no. that sounds depressing. i try to stick to the music

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Thursday, 19 January 2017 00:36 (seven years ago) link

Yeah it was weird, like really unedited iPhone footage, but yeah uh they seemed like real street and not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed

niels, Sunday, 29 January 2017 11:40 (seven years ago) link

aye

the SOB x RBE album, is huge. best bay release i heard since 'from the block too a lot'. hope they get hyped more

hector_doepos, Monday, 30 January 2017 00:32 (seven years ago) link

re: hip hop evolution, it's pretty transparently "we read jeff chang's can't stop won't stop and dan charnas's the big payback & made a doc series out of them"...but...like it's really cool to see all this footage of, for example, the fantastic romantic five vs. cold crush, or actually tracking down coke la rock to talk about the herc parties, it's a great watch either way and saw a lot of footage of stuff i'd read about but never seen

I don't know shit about Lil Ugly Mane (I know only marginally more than shit about the current rap world, but I digress) other than that he is from Richmond, VA and he gets compared to a lot of things that I don't have much time for under most circumstances. But when I saw that an album he released under the moniker Bedwetter, was the #1 album of the year at Rate Your Music chart (yeah, it's early, but still) so I checked it out.

http://liluglymane.bandcamp.com/album/volume-1-flick-your-tongue-against-your-teeth-and-describe-the-present

Apparently Volume 1: Flick Your Tongue Against Your Teeth and Describe the Present was accompanied by an impassioned Facebook post by Mane decrying this county's mental healthcare situation and how it failed him when he tried to seek help.

The album is pretty harrowing stuff, produced claustrophobically perfectly emulating a fucked-up hazy mental state, but with forcefully delivered words - like he's fighting against himself for clarity he desperately needs - with an eloquence and especially a vulnerability that, frankly, seems a complete contrast from the crap he gets compared to. It's like he realized nobody's hard enough to not need help sometimes, and that the inability to get it perpetuates a lot of bullshit. A very personal statement that points out, maybe unintentionally, how whole communities can be lost over our inability to deal with it.

Personal therapy that also critiques our current inability to deal with mental health issues as a society with a laid back noir style that makes me flex my head as well.

"deeply rooted" was released 2 years ago.
what he just released is "rooted the lost files", which contains outtakes and alternate versions of songs from deeply rooted.
