Alternatively, the lack of region lock might mean very little 3rd party IP wherever international rights are messy.

i like Mario in the real world. in 10 years they will have a holographic AR Mario who does parkour around your house, this is the first step.

Reminds me too much of Grand Theft Auto.

When the talk was on the Chinese market I saw the Chinese gaming censorship rules and I can't remember them but it was a little worrying that all sorts of developers might change their games to fall within the rules. It's not just sex and violence, it had a lot of implications. Maybe it's over-paranoid to say there might be no more super-camp characters in Zelda.

have you seen the new trailer for BOTW? some very campy looking characters briefly shown in that.

you need to spend an extra £28 to play the switch on your tv and charge your controller at the same time?

although i guess i shouldn't be that surprised since nintendo stopped bundling any kind of charger at all with the 3ds a few years ago

so if you buy a switch, an extra joycon and for the sake of economy just one charging grip you'll be spending the better part of £400 before even buying a game to play on it

for the record I thought the "Sonic in the city" bits of SA were the best parts of the game. would be nice to see something really expansive again - while I do like it when games guide you a bit to prevent you from getting lost, Galaxy sort of forced it a bit; most of the game was "do this, then go here, then do this", almost no wide open spaces like what Sunshine had. not that Galaxy wasn't excellent though

there would probably be nothing stopping them from releasing an updated "tablet" in a few years that can use the same cradle and joycon etc, aside from, you know, being nintendo and making you buy everything over again.

yeah, and nintendo is really no worse with all the optional/mandatory purchases than sony or microsoft. i remember feeling unbelievably lucky when i somehow got my dad to buy a playstation 1 for me for christmas back when it came out and was crazy expensive. and then the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, soon afterward, when i realized i had to ask him for $20 to go buy a memory card so i could save the fucking game

like its literal place in the market is for the "casual gamer" but no person who is casual about gaming is going to camp out outside a fucking Game Stop

guessing they're doing it on purpose? the difficulty of obtaining the original Wii was a bigger story than anything the console actually did

come now, that's not true. the Wii won its generation in units sold and mainstream popularity. grandmas etc etc

it won in the end yeah but like i said upthread there were months and months after launch where they were just impossible to find, whether through accident or design

the thought did occur to me as well that maybe they're deliberately creating scarcity as a way to manufacture the appearance of switchmania

i waited w a crowd of people in that glass walmart antechamber from like 5:15-5:59 AM to get a wii. last time i ever did anything like that.

I think part of it is Nintendo's relatively conservative stance on warehousing and their views on profitability. afaik they're still the only ones who don't take a loss on the console itself, and I think part of that extends to not ramping up more production lines than needed or warehousing units before shipping.

yeah, i was signed up for a website that would send me alerts when wiis were in stock in online retailers and it took a couple of weeks before i managed to actually respond to an alert within the five minute window you'd have before they sold out again.

and i had to buy a bundle with a couple of games i didn't really want because retailers realised that idiots like me would pay extra if it meant getting a console :(

even the NES Classic had forced bundles with dumb extras this season. i gave up early

lots of indie goodies coming this year.... some ace stuff here for local multiplayer/co-op

Did anyone here ever pick up their GameCube by the handle and carry it over to their friend's house like it was a lunchbox? Nintendo seems to really like this idea that everyone is constantly packing up their console and setting it up at different locations, like it happens so frequently that the entire console must be tiny and include a handle.

You have to bring it everywhere because only like one person you know is allowed to have one

which is why all games must allow four players, iirc
