not seen the webuyanycar ad, but it actually sounds pretty funny (?)

wins otm about the slam poetry ads. usually it's down to the copywriter being totally uninspired and just scribbling down random catchwords with the help of the rhyming dictionary.

Frylight advert with nodding head middle class families. Smugness dripping out of the screen.

Mud... Jam... Failure... (aldo), Thursday, 19 January 2017 09:26 (seven years ago) link

why are they nodding? what is the reason? is there an added ingredient?

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Thursday, 19 January 2017 09:33 (seven years ago) link

I think it's just "Aren't we great? Yes we are."

Mud... Jam... Failure... (aldo), Thursday, 19 January 2017 09:36 (seven years ago) link

Oh and fuck off Tesco with yer man Dave who always puts yoghurt in his curry because HIS ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP IS BASED ON A LIE.

It's not heartwarming, what else is he lying about? That he had to take out a second mortgage to fund his scratchcard addiction? His second family on an estate outside Telford? That he used to be a conjoined twin?

a couple of particularly egregious, pompous "inspirational" high street bank ads out there at the moment: Natwest "hmm makes you think" and Lloyds "For the journey" GTFO

Neil S, Thursday, 19 January 2017 10:03 (seven years ago) link

banks are just so fucking clueless about everything.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 19 January 2017 10:52 (seven years ago) link

tactic now seems to try and be our fwend to undo some of the reputational damage from the financial crisis. Good luck, multinational financial institutions!

Eh? That's easily the least annoying MoneySuperMarket advert.

apparently he grabbed his dick.

people who complain about ads seem to be of a certain political stripe, see number 3.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 19 January 2017 12:27 (seven years ago) link

has anyone seen the maltesers ad? apparently it features a woman in a wheelchair joking that her boyfriend mistakes spasms for orgasms.

without seeing it it's hard to know if it's massively offensive or quite inclusive.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 19 January 2017 12:28 (seven years ago) link

There's at least two of those. All I can say is, if you find them massively offensive then you are a massive twunt.

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Thursday, 19 January 2017 12:35 (seven years ago) link

Hold on though, I don't think I've seen the one you described, but I don't pay too much attention to Maltesers ads tbf.

they're trying to be inclusive but they're hamfisted and they're adverts

they're rubbishy adverts because they're adverts but I'd imagine a lot of disabled people are happy to see any representation that doesn't involve people being plucky, inspiring victims

^^^^^ this. and it takes a special kind of ninny to be offended by it.

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 19 January 2017 13:43 (seven years ago) link

the problem with Gaz and Leccy is they make me want to kill whoever came up with them

Rock Wokeman (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 19 January 2017 13:46 (seven years ago) link

reckon its just because they hit each other?

I'll never forget hearing my step father ringing up and complaining to the BBC over an episode of Jim'll Fix it. He used to work as an ICI safety officer, and in the episode they had kids playing around with liquid nitrogen or something.

Ste, Thursday, 19 January 2017 13:59 (seven years ago) link

Just youtubed and have never seen Gaz and Leccy before.

She's not, she needed a payday loan to fix her boiler the last time I saw her on telly.

posh people get payday loans, but only in the adverts

I'm in the cinema rn and there's an advert for a bank that has top cat in it and is unbelievably long and bad, they've hired some mook who cannot do the voice of top cat to do the voice of top cat

Deputy Bank Manager Dawg

barry snappleton (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 19:59 (seven years ago) link

You haven't seen the Flintstones and Scooby Doo ones yet?

yuck, no - are they also unbelievably long with terrible voice work?

wins, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:13 (seven years ago) link

The Flash ad where the dog sings about all the mud being gone makes me hate dogs and television and everything. Jesus, the person who wrote that ad must hate themselves.

trishyb, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:17 (seven years ago) link

(xp) Terrible voice work is a given, I assume you saw a long version for cinema.

Return of the Flustered Bootle Native (Tom D.), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:24 (seven years ago) link

i find the Flash advert weirdly endearing, i like the 2-person perspective
