Depending on how long your commute is and how reliable your connectivity is, I think getting 650 HP over 9 days isn't too bad of a grind.

If you're going to dump anyone, dump Drax; he is the least useful of all the characters you mentioned. I personally would give Mordo a chance as I think he's too new for people to have really figured out how best to play him and I'd be surprised if he was as bad as Drax.

is it just me or are you guys getting only low point value, low hero levels for the pvp matchmaking?

Mordy, Friday, 17 February 2017 18:18 (seven years ago) link

I did too but still rode it to 900. It was decent for ISO too

yeah, same, it is kinda nice xp

i'm finding it extremely frustrating bc now i'm getting slammed by teams that are way higher than my bracket and i can't even attack them back

Mordy, Friday, 17 February 2017 18:46 (seven years ago) link

I've been attacked once. I will trade low points on new attacks for not having to shield.

I have been debating taking my most recent PvE team (OML/Flaptain/Strang3) into the simulator but I don't know if an unbuffed Flaptain is worth the spot over Phoenix (if I had a red cover for Phoenix, it would be no question)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Friday, 17 February 2017 18:59 (seven years ago) link

(although Flaptain is a more reliable tile-buffer than Phoenix and would feed Strange's stun)

Heheh sorry about that.

As for your 4* crunch, I easily use Jean, Iceman, and now Nova more than the others you've mentioned.

Jean + SWitch = 90% imperviousness against goons. Jean is also the best defense against an opponent's SWitch.
Iceman can wipe out entire teams with in one turn.
Nova can spit out strike tiles at nearly the same rate as Daken, but with the important difference that Nova's tiles are comparable in strength at level 70 and with just a single cover.

A note on Hulkbuster: for me he's become more of a specialist against Peggy, otherwise I'm not fond of his self-damage and I prefer other reds to his, and he pretty much has to have 5 red to be of any practical use (which may be hyperbole on my part).

All the rest are at best second-tier, i.e. only keep them if you have a lot of covers for them.

Dr. MC Selar (Leee), Saturday, 18 February 2017 00:36 (seven years ago) link

I just got my 13th X-Force Deadpool cover and promptly champed him, readjusted to 5/3/5 (his countdown for what power was like... at 2 for a long time? or 3?) and teamed him up with my champed xfw to do the whole countdown + surgical strike combo. with xfdp boosted right now, he drops 6 tiles each doing 3000 damage... and they're all activated by the surgical strike (which itself does a few grand damage). It's GLORIOUS. Plus the countdowns hit sequentially so if they kill an enemy you keep damaging the next enemy. :D :D :D

he's only my 4th champed 4* (xfw, flaptain, hulkbuster) so i don't have a lot to compare to but between that power and his insanely heavy-hitting red power (with built-in healing!) he seems an excellent character indeed

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Sunday, 19 February 2017 19:51 (seven years ago) link

champed my 4 Cyclops a couple days ago, and he is fierce. he can drive himself, loading up on red with yellow and blue.

drew my 13th ghost rider cover, guess I'll champ him after Cho (who's at 262 now, just a few more days needed). but I might first level the 2 stars I've been re-covering, particularly now that they're going to be required for the new node in the Deadpool Daily.

I finished the Gauntlet yesterday. Still kind of shocked that I was able to.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 15:05 (seven years ago) link

nice! I finished it over the weekend, because I am desperate for ISO: had a 4 Cyclops cover & a Cho cover and need to 270 both before they expire. it's been frustrating how little there's been to do while the gauntlet's been going. I think I'll make it for Cho too, but it's going to be close.

I need to scrape together 70K of ISO in the next two days before my 14th Thoress cover expires because I had forgotten I had maxed her covers and recycled my 2* farm (oops)

...for now?

Though more ISO would be more useful for me at this point.

droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 19:44 (seven years ago) link

i rarely ever complete DDQ as it is

Nhex, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 22:29 (seven years ago) link

now it's more worthwhile bc of the 3rd token tho?

Mordy, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 22:54 (seven years ago) link

i like it anyway.

next pve dropping 2x iron fist covers i need to champ him and another 4* luke cage which is pretty cool.

and btw djp u were right - i was able to grind enough hero points to roster the 4* hulk, and now i've got plenty of time (7 days for the iron man token and then however many more for the hulkbuster) to grind another 1000.

Mordy, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 23:03 (seven years ago) link

ok i like the new DDQ. since the 3* tier is shorter, everything takes about the time. the new mission with the required 4/3/2* node is fun too

Nhex, Friday, 24 February 2017 04:57 (seven years ago) link

Plz eli5 what bonus heroes are and how they work

Mordy, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:24 (seven years ago) link

afaict, you build up a favorites list and have a chance to receive extra covers for those characters as you open tokens

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:25 (seven years ago) link

what i don't get is - it is an extra pull, or just the same pull you're getting

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:41 (seven years ago) link

real nice of them to allow you to pick heroes you don't have as "favorites" to increase the chance of getting one

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:41 (seven years ago) link

what i don't get is - it is an extra pull, or just the same pull you're getting

You just get a cover of that favorited character(s). I saw this mechanic when I opened a standard and pulled a 3*, which gave me a bonus Strange (unfortunately, not the blue I needed for my 2/5/5).

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:49 (seven years ago) link

bonus = additional. I forget what 3* I pulled.

Anyway, it's kind of a remote chance if I understand correctly: first, you need to pull a 3*, 4*, or 5*, and even then you're not guaranteed of getting a bonus cover.

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:50 (seven years ago) link

yeah IIRC from the forums it's a single-digit percentage chance (5%?)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:51 (seven years ago) link

you think i'm better off making my existing 4*/5*s favorites or going for the ones i don't have?

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:00 (seven years ago) link

I decided to just do OML, Phoenix and Dr Strange in the 5* tier
4* I did the two I don't have (Medusa, Gwenpool) + the ones where I'm one cover away (Nick Fury, Elektra)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:05 (seven years ago) link

I went with Iceman and Nova (because I'm one cover away from a LT for each), 3* Strange, and OML. I didn't favorite Phoenix (5/0/5) because I'm terrified of pulling something other than a purple.

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:13 (seven years ago) link

And you can always change it, so there's probably no single best tactic here.

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:13 (seven years ago) link

Now that we've had it for a little while, what do ppl think of the new DDQ?

I dig it a lot, the 2*/3*/4* node is a lot of fun (although I do think they should have let ppl do it with 2/3 characters)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Thursday, 2 March 2017 18:45 (seven years ago) link

i like it a lot esp now that i can play the new node most days

on that note -- most of my 3*'s are now championed and i'm working on the last dozen (not counting colossus, sentry or ragnarok which i don't even have rostered atm). i have all the 4*'s but 12 rostered but all very lightly covered. is there a guide or suggestions to help make the transition to champing my first 4*? is there anything i can do besides making sure to finish every pve up to the 4* and just keep cashing in covers and v slowly covering these unevenly? i'd love to try and grab the 4*s from the PvP too but i still can't even hit the 3*'s in those :/ (even tho i can consistently finish in the top 100 or top 50 even).

Mordy, Thursday, 2 March 2017 18:53 (seven years ago) link

There are several strategies around this, most of which centering around hoarding tokens until you reach a critical mass and then opening a bunch all at once. Another focuses on collecting command points and then using them to upgrade targeted skills rather than waiting on token pulls. I find both of these strategies unsatisfying and unenjoyable, so what I have been doing is focusing on PvE clears for the point rewards; if you can get through all of them, that's 15 CP plus a 4* cover for every event. Whenever I hit 25 CP, I spin the RNG wheel on the Latest Legends draw, which usually results in either a 4/5* cover I need (although I did hit a bad patch of 6 pulls in a row where I was hitting an undercovered character where I'd already maxed out the color I pulled) or a level for one of my 4* champions (XFW, IW, Quake, JG, Mr F, Flaptain, 4Thor). I could maximize and target certain characters by hoarding but... I don't enjoy it, so I don't do it.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Thursday, 2 March 2017 19:24 (seven years ago) link

xp

I transitioned into 4* land just a few months ago. For PVE, it's good that you're reaching the 4* progression reward, but I think you should aim for the final 15 CP, which has been my main source of covering 4*s. Yes, it's random as hell (and I guess I've been luckier than most), but the more Legendary pulls you make, you'll eventually get the more desirable 4* covers. And FWIW, I rarely ever play PVP, much less push to 900 points, so you might consider entering into a lower clearance level.

As for which 4* to champion first (and we're ignoring scaling issues for now because I still don't understand it), refer to this list again. If you've got a dependable IM40, then you've got some flexibility. IMO, the best characters for a transitioner to start with, among the top tier, would be any of Iceman, Jean, Thor, and Cyclops (they all have some combination of big damage, board control, and stuns, which is useful in almost all situations). In the next tier, good options would be the AP accelerators (Star-Lord, Cho) or the self-healers (X-23, Deadpool (I guess Cho, too)).

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Thursday, 2 March 2017 19:25 (seven years ago) link

Oh and unlike DJP, I prefer classic pulls, since they're cheaper and I'm not very concerned with 5* hunting.

Note that spending 120 CP to directly level a 4* should happen in very specific circumstances: you have a top-tier character at 12 covers and then you pull one in a color you can't use AND you have or can acquire enough ISO to champ them before the queued cover expires.

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Thursday, 2 March 2017 19:28 (seven years ago) link

I also am at a point where I can accrue 1K HP well within the 2 week expiry period of a new cover I need to roster, so I tend to hoard HP until I hit that 1K threshold and then spend it on daily deals from vaults, which I can usually make up during the course of my daily playtime and therefore slowly build up until I'm sitting pretty comfortably around 3K and then can throw HP at a specific character vault if I decide the 4* in there is worth me spending the HP.

My answer to "who to champ first" is 100% driven by "what cover did you get?" IMO, you're going to end up champing all of them anyway if you have them rostered and the odds of getting a specific cover aren't that great, so you might as well champ 4*s as you get covers for them and use the not-so-good ones as fodder/championing batteries rather than cornerstones of your PvP/PvE teams.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Thursday, 2 March 2017 19:31 (seven years ago) link

lol Leee I went exactly the opposite direction; I pulled classics because they were cheaper and I cared more about 4* than 5* but then I noticed that my 5* distribution was just all over the place with only a few having decent coverage, and those were usually from specific token pulls in events rather than CP purchases, so I switched to the Latest pull in order to focus the pool of 5*s I could get. Bonus heroes just make me like this even more; I can still focus my chances on a small subset of 5*s and then sporadically get free covers for the other 5*s I care about but can't pull from Latest.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Thursday, 2 March 2017 19:34 (seven years ago) link

xps!

The counterargument here would be that ISO is the most important AND limited resource, and spending 360K to champion Agent Venom or Wasp is kind of demoralizing. I know it's painful to sell a 4* cover you can't use, but hey, 1000 ISO, which you need anyway! Plus, scaling (though I guess if you have at least three 5*s on your roster, championing a 4* won't make much difference).

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Thursday, 2 March 2017 19:37 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, totally go for Latest if you want to build up your 5*s! What's more, if you happen to get a cover that you've already maxed out for a Latest character, CS *will* let you change the color.

Me, I just think of LTs as my source for 4*s, and kind of grimace whenever I get a 5*.

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Thursday, 2 March 2017 19:38 (seven years ago) link

i guess i'm not ready to start spending HP on anything other than roster spots yet. i have a cover i need to roster (coulson) and 12 latest legends tokens i haven't cashed in yet bc i was afraid of not being able to roster something. presumably once i've used all those tokens (and rostered them) i can start doing the strategy of spending hp on covers.

Mordy, Thursday, 2 March 2017 19:42 (seven years ago) link

These are the questions I ask myself:

1. If I had to roster a character RIGHT NOW, could I?
2. If I spend 100 HP on a daily deal, can I make it back in the course of my play over the day?

If the answer to either question is "no" I don't think the daily deal pulls are worth it. However, almost all of my 2*/3* characters are champed, so I have a pretty steady stream of HP coming in from them that more than covers dipping into the vaults for a chance at an extra 4* (and if it doesn't work out, I can always use whatever you do end up with either in your champion farms or when pushing in PvP/PvE depending on what you pull)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Thursday, 2 March 2017 19:48 (seven years ago) link

I just need to write this somewhere so I don't forget and go on a spending-spree: I have a Quake resupply coming in two weeks, so she's my next champion.

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Thursday, 2 March 2017 21:42 (seven years ago) link

I have to say I didn't get why people liked Quake so much until I realized that she negates a good chunk of AoE damage just by existing

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Thursday, 2 March 2017 21:44 (seven years ago) link

lol yeah! She's a must when you're facing high-level Kishus (CALLLLTROPSSSSS!), and I'm starting to bring her along against high-level muscles (to try to blunt the Tommy Gun damage).

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Thursday, 2 March 2017 21:46 (seven years ago) link

I wish there was a way to make her invulnerable to stuns because Quake/Thanos/Strange where she could mitigates Thanos's team dmg would be hilariously overpowered

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Thursday, 2 March 2017 21:49 (seven years ago) link

She wouldn't cancel Thanos's damage because her yellow only protects against enemy damage. :\
