I didn't think the Futureheads desecrating Kate Bush would be outdone in my lifetime
― lex pretend, Friday, 24 February 2017 17:52 (seven years ago) link
haha i am not that outraged but it does betray a...... lack of self-awareness, or at least Sade-awareness, on par with i dunno chvrches doing a stereolab cover? you just don't mess, it does you no favours
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:00 (seven years ago) link
or like...when chvrches did a bauhaus cover
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:02 (seven years ago) link
Stereogum ran a whole article this week on cover versions of this song. They were uniformly awful.
― Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:03 (seven years ago) link
I would gladly listen to Chvrches cover Stereolab.
― MarkoP, Friday, 24 February 2017 18:04 (seven years ago) link
chvrches doing "bela lugosi's dead" feels way more out-of-depth than this though, not that i'm justifying this cover to people who will believe me on that point
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:04 (seven years ago) link
that chvrches cover is so bizarre, i had totally forgotten about it
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:05 (seven years ago) link
besides which the "by your side" cover doesn't veer from the original arrangement or reconstruct it as a rock song a la futureheads, just sort of faithfully recreates it with saxophones and synths and i assume someone humming through a distortion pedal, w matty singing through a vocoder. the anger it inspires is just another exponent of the significant contempt ppl already feel for this band, sade injury added to general insult
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:14 (seven years ago) link
though i guess now that they've trolled lex so directly they can break up
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:15 (seven years ago) link
what's up with the posts in this thread about how this cover is bad
― J0rdan S., Friday, 24 February 2017 18:17 (seven years ago) link
matty using a vocoder kinda subverted how i genuinely would rather not hear anyone but sade sing this song. it's like the inverse of bon iver's bonnie raitt cover, which is well-intentioned and intolerable
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:24 (seven years ago) link
it's like they took the outro of "if i believe you" and made it a whole song, can't think of anything i'd want more in my life
― J0rdan S., Friday, 24 February 2017 19:37 (seven years ago) link
definitely better than justin vernon's autotune cover
― ufo, Saturday, 25 February 2017 04:10 (seven years ago) link
yeah uh this is amazing jordan otm
― k3vin k., Saturday, 25 February 2017 04:16 (seven years ago) link
the idea that a band who pulled off soul so flawlessly on "if i believe you" hasn't earned the right to tackle sade does not scan to me
― k3vin k., Saturday, 25 February 2017 04:49 (seven years ago) link
ok I need to hear that Chvrche s cover, and this one too.
― Mark G, Saturday, 25 February 2017 14:23 (seven years ago) link
their last album is still so good btw
― k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 03:41 (seven years ago) link
oh it's one year old today!
― ufo, Sunday, 26 February 2017 04:24 (seven years ago) link
is it just me or is "change of heart" super hats-y, especially the beginning
― k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 04:45 (seven years ago) link
"please be naked" too tbh
― k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 05:02 (seven years ago) link
yes to both
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Sunday, 26 February 2017 05:35 (seven years ago) link
it's very easy to imagine a paul buchanan vocal over please be naked
― ufo, Sunday, 26 February 2017 05:47 (seven years ago) link
has enough time passed for us to poll the album
― k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 18:05 (seven years ago) link
omg yeah
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Sunday, 26 February 2017 18:32 (seven years ago) link
i'm going for it
― k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 19:51 (seven years ago) link

Beats 1 ✔ @Beats1"The next record’s called ‘Music For Cars.’ That’s the title and it references our 2nd EP or our 3rd EP." @Truman_Black @the1975
read a report that suggested it'll be out later this year but can't confirm
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 27 April 2017 18:14 (seven years ago) link
matty tweeted 2018 a few months ago
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 27 April 2017 18:17 (seven years ago) link
yeah that's what i'm expecting. stereogum and a few other outlets running with the "this year" thing
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 27 April 2017 18:19 (seven years ago) link

true or false:
the current 1975 listening cru is actually the the-dream listening cru reconstituted

true on my part.

don't think I've knowingly heard a song by the-dream, mostly because of his name. come to think of it, that kept me from listening to the 1975 for months too!
― Vinnie, Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:12 (six years ago) link
*whispers* their cover of "by your side" is legit one of the best things they've done
